Bengals 33, Buccaneers 27

September 13th, 2026

Fumbling and bumbling.

Baker Mayfield did a Jameis Winston impression this afternoon, handing the Bengals a touchdown and fumbling away points on the board for Tampa Bay. And he threw in a third fumble, too.

Ballgame!

Mayfield tied for the NFL lead in fumbles in 2024 and 2025, so this wasn’t exactly a shocking happening. But no, Joe didn’t expect Mayfield to play like a rookie quarterback and give the ball away like it was Halloween candy.

The Bucs offense was sloppy with presnap penalties, drops and inconsistent pass blocking — head-shaking kind of stuff. Joe was disgusted.

New playcaller Zac Robinson did not have his unit ready to play. Simple as that. The offense put up just 20 points.

Aside from Bucky Irving’s fumble, he looked pretty sharp. So Joe was pleased about that. Irving finished with 8 carries for 45 yards, plus 7 catches for 48 yards. Rookie Tedd Hurst also showed up in the fourth quarter. Joe was glad the Bucs decided to push the ball too him.

Good for the Bucs defense for tightening up in the second half, though it wasn’t enough. Perhaps most disturbing was the Bengals running the ball down the Bucs’ throat too often.

Kudos to rookie inside linebacker Josiah Trotter for showing up after a quiet first quarter. Trotter had a couple of big hits, 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and a pick-6. It was a hell of a debut for the second-round pick. Last year’s second-round pick Benjamin Morrison also played well in relief of starting outside cornerback Jacob Parrish, who was hurt in the first half. Rookie Rueben Bain had a very quiet day.

It’s worth noting that this was Todd Bowles’ first lost on opening day as a Bucs head coach. Joe picked Tampa Bay to lose today, so this was no surprise.

It’s the bumbling Browns next Sunday in Tampa. They lost 34-10 today to the Jaguars.

The Bucs Quarterback LOST Them The Game. Cincy, far from a very good football team, was there for the taking today.

  19. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Zac Robinson offense looks terrible too

  20. Whatevs Says:

6-11 and we still win the South

This will be a fun year

  21. Tbbbucsfan Says:

Looks like the same old Baker and same old Bowels. Baker turns the ball over too much and Bowles believes his job description doesn’t include any sort of motivation or inspiration of his team. Those two will be the reason we fold like a house of cards just like the last two seasons.

  22. Nate Says:

I mean, 4 turnovers and we were in it to the final possesion. That should mean at least some optimism for this team?

  23. BigZ Says:

Aren’t you glad that we paid baker and vita, all that money, I said several times not to do that.

  24. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Nice pic for this article Joe, we lost by 6

Anzalone and Mayfield cost this game today
    ————————————————-

you don’t think any of it is on the oline?? they’ve been like a sieve for a lot of the game, on a significant number of plays they’ve swarmed the backfield and baker has no time to do anything. with better oline play, at least one of those turnovers would not have happened.

and don’t think any of it is on the fact that the bengals defense played great? baker had two hands on the ball when the defense stripped the ball and he fumbled into the end zone.

  33. td Says:

can’t wait for toilet bowles to blame everyone else. defense gets dog walked again offensive line laid down. turnover gave the game away early

  34. Drunkinybor Says:

Vita Vea Tacklea a fat 0 Tacklwa for loss 0 😱 000000000.000pp Bucs should have stuck tontheie guns. Baker PAID not 1 not 2 but 3 freaking LOST fumbles! Yikes

  35. BigZ Says:

Only the bucs can lose a game in the first quarter

  36. MadMax Says:

Yep, some throwing up going on out there, you too Todd with your stupid schemes!

  37. 40 year Bucs fan Says:

It was pure delusion to think baker would out duel Joe

  38. Destinjohnny Says:

These guys not having there cleats right hurt them

  39. TheBucsAnthem Says:

True….the game was lost in the 1st quarter

  40. Will008 Says:

Anzalone was pretty damn bad out there

  41. ElioT Says:

    Yeah baker must be injured.

Those Sonic burger commercials can be brutal

  42. FireBowles58! Says:

    50 million plus… 3 fumbles.. defense that once again can’t get a stop…joke…

  43. Falconrap Says:

Baker being Baker. Baked some nice gifts for the Bengals today.

  44. Bee Says:

I told you he’d be worse this season. So what injuries did Baker have today? What are the excuses? Does Baker still feel disrespected? The Glazers dont want to draft a rookie but this is way better paying $165 million for this. Absolute poop show.

  45. Day1-76 Says:

Baker should be ashamed, but Bowles’ defense still looks like a joke.

  46. BPBucsfan Says:

Good news is everyone in the division is tied for 1st at 0-1 😆😆

  47. NPRSage Says:

Beat by 6 with 4 turnovers and a defense that can’t stop a stiff breeze. Gotta be feeling a little leery of this Bucs squad.

  48. Outrigger Says:

You forgot to tell the Saints that. They’re going in for a score to tie the game at Detroit

  49. NaplesBucsFan Says:

    Saints ain’t lost yet

  50. Whatevs Says:

    How bout that GM

Great draft this year. Bain was a maniac

Our FA signings had a huge game

Our contract extensions were the difference makers

  51. Will008 Says:

Thought Trotter looked pretty good at least some of the time though

  52. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

    Baker’s fumbles were terrible.

    Bowles defense is terrible.

  53. chad Says:

o-line was the most worrisome part of the game for me. fumbles can be cleaned up. baker has to be better there. but the blocking and penalties from the o-line, with a lot of it coming from wirfs is an issue

  54. SenileSenior Says:

One game does not a season make. Todd did not have the team ready. Off with his head!

  55. Tye Says:

    VERY MUCH EXPECTED!

Bucs weren’t going to beat the Bengals…
Next week is a win over the putrid Browns before the losing streak begins…

  56. Baking with Robinson Says:

    Baker WTF?

  57. Captain Butt Sweat Says:

    VAAG1NAAZ

  58. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Vita Vea has been invisible the past 3 years….he’s overpaid too….along with Chris Godwin

  59. Josh Says:

Where was the pass rush??? Analzone is terrible. That said, one less turnover. Blame the offensive line, blame Baker—ultimately, this is on four turnovers. The fact that they’re even in the game speaks volumes, honestly.

This loss is on Baker. He single-handedly gave up 14 points on two turnovers—one fumble returned for six, and another fumble at the 1-yard line on 1st-and-5. That one should haunt him forever. And that doesn’t even count the other interception he threw.

The defense could have made a stop to give him the ball back and a chance, but if he didn’t suck for the entire first quarter, they wouldn’t have needed to in the first place.
Love me some Baker but this again is why I would have made him play the year out if he can’t stop doing this dumb crap he is no better than Jamie’s Winston was for us….

  60. Outrigger Says:

    Saints just tied game

  61. Buttehrs Says:

Well, at least the entire division is terrible. (Again)

  62. LEWI Says:

    Absolutely cannot have it

I don’t think it will continue

This’ll eat at Baker, as it should

  63. Yall don't get it Says:

    Anzalone sucks too.

  64. BigZ Says:

50 spent trying camp at Club Med and it showed. So overrated. All you peeps…..pay the man. Look what that got us. His effort sucked.
BTW 78 is not what he used to be.Year two of looking slow and not dominate.

  65. MikeBuc Says:

Not a good day for Baker but its one game so I got out the popcorn reading the comments

I’m really enjoying the Mayfield signing

He’s signed for at least 3 years so pound dirt for just one game

He’s still here and going nowhere

  66. JA Says:

What about that performance would lead Todd to kick off when trailing by six? Yes, perhaps a normal defense could be counted on to get the stop. There was plant of time left. But with the Bucs?
We all knew a stop there was nearly impossible.
    But not Todd.
Hell, he’ll probably get an extension after this game with the Glazers at the helm.

  67. chad Says:

the good thing about baker, he will take blame for this loss as he should. 2 of his fumbles were very bad, not worried about the other one, that can happen to any qb. but baker has to be better as does this o-line

  68. JA Says:

    Plenty

  69. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lost solely on the shoulders of Baker Mayfield and Alex Anzalone

  70. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “Whatevs Says:

How is Liam doing in Jax?“

Has a QB that doesn’t freeze up while struggling to see the field. Keep telling y’all, Canales & Coen got jobs because they’re were able to get wins out Baker and if you can do that, you can win with a Bryce Young or Trevor Lawerence to varying degrees.

  71. Joeybagodonuts Says:

Bowles must go. This team was not prepared. Baker needs to hold on to the ball

  72. FireBowles58! Says:

    Did Diaby play? Bain?

  73. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Bucs weren’t gonna win every game this year…loss to a decent AFC team isn’t the worst thing. Losing because of dumb ball security stuff that is very correctable is also not the worst.
Lose to the Browns next week and then hit the panic button!

  74. Outrigger Says:

Baker didn’t throw any interceptions today. He threw one but it was called back because EE was interfered with

  75. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

I thought the Bucs showed positive signs in every phase, just need to tighten up some things. Obviously Baker fumbled the ball away. O line needs to get more in sync. Anzalone looked pretty bad with some missed tackles and assignments. Special teams much better. I come away a bit encouraged, this Bengals team looked really good. I think Baker comes out angry next week and makes up for the fumbles today.

  76. Alyssa Says:

It’s called bad protection, the OL let Baker take hit after hit. Only one fumble was on Baker, the other two? Nope.

  77. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Nahhhhh…..the Bucs ain’t gonna win next week either

I’m sure Baker will “gift” the Cleveland a win next week………… two more fumbles coming from overpaid Baker

  78. Falconrap Says:

Our defense is soft as baby poop. And Baker still sucks. Same Coach. Same ****.

  79. chad Says:

josh… what interception? your not talking about when emeka was mauled by the cornerback which was an obvious pass interception are you? blame baker for the fumbles he wasn’t great today, but don’t say retarded stuff talking about a interception

  80. Ed Says:

What the hell is going on that nearly every single snap was with zero on the play clock. When you are behind 10 or 13 points in Q4 you have to have urgency. The Bengals did not punt today. They completely dominated the Buc defense and the Bucs middle linebacker is a washed up vet who will be dissected by every offensive quarter the rest of the year. The Bucs have to get a linebacker who isn’t a liability like Azalone. What else can you say about Mayfield that Joe already addressed. Score not indicative of how dominant the Bengals were today.

  81. 813bucboi Says:

    Speechless 😶

    GO BUCS

  82. BigZ Says:

It’s like most of us have said, nothing is going to change until they fire Bowles. Problem is he wasted a lot of these players prime years.

  83. Curse of Gruden Says:

Good thing the Bucs got Baker under contract for only $55m.

  84. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Since the Bucs would’ve lost 49-2 to the Jags today it’s obvious the Browns are the better team.

  85. Herbiebuc Says:

Todd Bowles slander should be illegal considering how many times baker turned the ball over. It’s no way fans can blame Todd for this loss

  86. Outrigger Says:

Well at least our Special Teams unit was solid today

  87. 3rd and 28 in the Canoe Says:

As a longtime Bucs fan, I can confidently say that Todd will say we had communication issues and that he needs to coach it better and the players need to play it better.

  88. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

Kellen Moore says, Hello, we’re tied with the Lions. I’m not sleeping on the Saints.

  89. Mike in MO Says:

I didn’t see the game. Where was Hurst for the first 55 minutes? Why no targets until the end?

  90. Stucbuc Says:

4 years in a row with a different OC. No one sticks around. I’ve never seen a franchise deal with this. The common denominator and root cause of this failed product is todd Bowles. Pure trash and not a head coach. Remove this garbage already. I will not attend a game until he’s gone. Not spending a cent on anything buccaneers until they improve. The rest of the division had improved and have competent HC

  91. 813bucboi Says:

No Kenton smith today huh lol

    GO BUCS

  92. BigZ Says:

    Where was Winfield?

  93. Gman Says:

The players lost that game. Wirfs was horrible…Baker was reckless…the front 7 left the secondary out to dry. It is normal for the simple-minded Bucs fan to blame Bowles…the JBF comment section is filled with ignorance. The players lost this game.

  94. BucfaninMi Says:

This is just a continuation of last season, with 2 players a little richer and some new faces to play out of position

  95. Larrd Says:

Soft zone on third and long. Seems familiar!

  96. DS Says:

    Anzalone looked really bad

  97. Boltsfan17 Says:

6 win team. Bowles and Licht are complete trash. Baker is grossly overpaid and the defense is still laughable. Anzalone was exposed today. Looks like a mid tier special teams guy.

  98. Posey99 Says:

Keep this up Joe. Baker needs to be held to a higher standard now. Criticism included.

  99. CosmoKramer Says:

The Todd Bowles protection plan in full effect by the Joes.

He sucks out loud at the job he’s supposed to be a guru.

Somehow it’s the OC fault. Wash Rinse Repeat.

Today Bowels is 36-37 as our HC\DC. Putrid.

  100. Outrigger Says:

Concerning that we couldn’t generate any pass rush against a very average oline

  101. Nb Says:

I feel like this is just an extension of the end of last season

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Baker had a 98.8 passer rating today.
Joe Montana for his career had a 92.3 passer rating.

Are you seriously trying to claim that Baker, who ran circles around Joe Montana in passer rating, was at fault for losing today?

    What a joke.

This was on the defense for not being able to overcome 4 turnovers, and only scoring 7 points. If the defense was any good, it would have scored at least 2 TDs

This isn’t on Baker, and if you claim it is, you’re just a hater.

Also Baker wasn’t even healthy today – the coaches forced him to play when he clearly wasn’t ready, but Baker is such a legend, an ironman, he played anyways. That’s what a man Baker is – and what garbage coaches we have to force him out there when he wasn’t ready.

  103. Falconrap Says:

Whose in charge of coaching this team? Bowles. Who schemes this soft as baby poop defense year after year? Bowles. Whose team consistently has time issues? Bowles.

We can blame Bowles. This team will not live up to the talent on it with him and this coaching staff in place. We get guys looking good early in their careers only to see them slowly get worse. That’s coaching.

  104. Usfbucs Says:

The lack of pass rush on defense hurt. The turnovers and penalties on offense are what lost the game. The fact that the Bucs were still in the game in spite of the turnovers tells me they can win games if they can eliminate the mistakes.

If the equipment teams didn’t change out cleats they should be fired.

  105. Defense Rules Says:

Baker actually had a good game from a stats perspective, but he also was more responsible for Bucs losing than anyone else.

o Rushing: Baker ran it 5 times for 30 yds … 6.0 YPC

o Passing: Baker was 23-of-28 (82.1%) for 216 yds, 0 TDs & 0 INTs. Unfortunately he was also sacked 4 times and fumbled the ball 3 times, resulting in 1 fumble recovery for a TD (7 pts) plus a fumble recovery that precluded us getting a TD (minus 7 pts).

Unfortunately 4 fumbles lost in a game will usually lose you the game almost every time. We beat ourselves yet again. And for the Bowles-haters, THAT’S not on Bowles. THAT’S on the players who fumbled the ball.

  106. Steve Says:

    Get the glazers a refund!

  107. Nb Says:

Surprise! Same terrible coach. Same result. Evans was smart and not continue this insanity

  108. Gipper Says:

O line was horrible today. Mayfield sacked 4x and under pressure all day. The pressure led to scrambles that led to the fumbles. Defense is vintage Todd B Can’t ever get the ball back when we need it

  109. Gkewl Says:

A decent coach and a decent quarterback can take this team deep into playoffs and maybe win . Love them or hate them TB and BA showed that. Even a non mobile TB can take this team into playoffs. Bowles and Baker are 6-7 wins coach and quarterback and we will eternally be in that limbo till they are part of this franchise.

  110. Marine Buc Says:

    Brutal…

Our beloved – “Moxy filled and gritty” QB played like SH!T…

    Yikes.

Good thing we have the worst franchise in the NFL coming to town next week.

    LOL!

  111. Matt Says:

Fumbles are random so I’m not worried about that.

    The issues:

Offense: snapping with no time left

Defense: scheme. Just awful. Same old. The final drive we scheme bend but not no break when we need a stop lol

  112. Canabuc Says:

    The good:

Bucky outside the fumble looks like old self
Egbuka looked good. Chris is fine and Ted made some big catches late.

Trotter looks like the player we wanted him to be. Morrison and Zyon looked good.
    Special teams made no gaffes.

    The Bad:

Absent pass rush. Bengals do not have a good line. At this point it has to be scheme…

Winfield was never up near the line of scrimmage making plays against tight ends and running backs. He had 7 tackles but always deep. Tykee also didn’t do much and Scott at nickel looked like a rookie.

Otton had a bad drop messed up a play and had another penalty.

Wirfs looked bad. 2 false starts, gave up some sacks as well

Play calling waiting until clock hitting zero nearly every play. We played best when in hurry up how could we not get plays in and ready fast enough.

    The Ugly:

Analzone. Could be worst LB performance I have seen a while. Makes me want Dennis or Britt!
We signed him to be a coverage type linebacker and he kept getting beat and kept missing tacos getting deeked out of his shoes play after play.

Baker. Hero ball only works when you can protect the football. 3 turnovers are hard for anyone to overcome. His throwing was good but his sense eof pressure was bad and he held ball too long on some sacks leading to turnovers.

Bowles. New players new defensive coaches and same sieve of a defense. How does a tight end make 3 straight catches on the same play … Why did we not use our safeties STO help cover the middle. Winfield seems 20 yards back all day.

Anyways I give credit for them not giving up and coming back from 18 down to having a chance still with 3 minutes left.

But if we can’t get our trenches to do better on both sides of the ball and it’s going to be a painful season and we are going to see some firing at multiple positions possibly including the GM.

  113. HC Grover Says:

    Stainks in overtime.

  114. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Todd Bowles slander should be illegal considering how many times baker turned the ball over. It’s no way fans can blame Todd for this loss“

Just stick around, it’ll start reading like an intellectual pretzel factory in here

  115. Whatevs Says:

Bucs score 27 and we lose.

That is the Todd Bowles way

    Shhhhh…..
    Bottom 5 Defense at work.

  116. ATLBuc Says:

    Bright spots:
4 turnovers and lost by just 6.
    Hurst looked good
Our corners shut down Chase and Higgins
    Morrison looked good
    Trotter played great

    Bad spots
    Baker’s lack of ball security
    Safety play in the middle
    Anzalone’s slowness and missed tackles
    Offensive line was weak
    Wirfs

  117. BucU Says:

The Bucs are gonna Buc. Its what they do.

  118. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

The defense score 7 of those points dude.

Meaning offensively we scored 20 which is right where we were at last season five or take a point

  119. Rod Munch Says:

    Defense Rules Says:
    September 13th, 2026 at 4:17 pm
Baker actually had a good game

    ———–

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell people!

  120. Red86 Says:

How can you blame the defense when the turnovers are just 3 plays after leaving the field? Worst one was 3 yards from the Bengals being in red zone. The defense force nothing, but field goals from the end of the second quarter. That’s great defense. It’s not the defense fault from the Turnovers King aka Choker Mayfield.

  121. J Says:

They needed to lose that game so they can have a come to Jesus meeting.

Baker was very disappointing, and so was that Oline. Nonstop pressure from the cincy defense the entire game. Wirfs even looked average; Wirfs will be much better, but come on man. I didn’t think that was possible.

  122. Hopes on 2027 Says:

If the offense had punted on their first play each time, they’d have lost by the same margin.

Typical Bowles’ defense unable to rise to the occasion. The more things change the more they stay the same.

  123. MelvinJunior Says:

OH. MY. GODDDDDD. That HUGE SACK right there, by BIG Deone Walker, in a CRUCIAL situation with just 20-seconds left in the ballgame on 1st & GOAL, was just Unnnnn. BELIEVABLE. I mean, soooo UNREAL. I’m talking “ALL-PRO” EDGE Rusher level stuff right there, with THOSE moves… Coming from a 6’7” 350lbs DT, coming right up the GUT. Crazy. CRAZY STUFF. Really, truthfully, just SAVED THEM THE BALLGAME THERE 💯.

  124. Whatevs Says:

Baker had the turnovers. Only one was a direct result in points.

    Defense lost the game

All results fall on the HC.

  125. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Oh lookie now……New Orleans are actually competing withe Lions….overtime with no kame backup QB

……..but yet we overpaid for Baker? Really Bro?

  126. TONY Says:

Why didn’t you wait until this off-season for the Mayfield contract?
Todd is out this year because he absolutely sucks. Ownership has
to stop shopping off the clearance rack.

  127. Greg-therealone Says:

This was not a well coached team today.

    – They had technical problems with the helmets.
    – Baker held the ball for way too long. 3 fumbles?
    – The defense was unable to get any pressure on Burrow
    – The play calling was predictable (how many screens?)
    – The O-line did not look good

    One the plus side:

    – Ted Hurst looks like he needs to be a bigger part of the offense.
    – Bucky looks decent if he can stop putting the ball on the deck.
    – Morrison played a great game and looked like the player he was drafted to be
    – Trotter looks like he’ll be the real deal
    – Special teams were much improved
    – corners held Chase to 2 catches for 12 yards and Higgins wasn’t much better.

  128. Josh Says:

You’re right — I cut off the end. Here’s the **full version**, rearranged for a more natural flow while keeping your wording and point:

    Full reworked version✓

Yes, I’m talking about when Egbuka was getting absolutely mauled. Was it pass interference? Absolutely. He got the call, and it was the right call. But the throw was still terrible. Egbuka was literally still open, and Baker threw it way, way past him. Put the ball in the dirt at Egbuka’s feet and get the flag if that’s what you’re looking for.

And I didn’t even go off on him for holding the ball for five seconds and making Wirfs look like he sucks, when in reality, Wirfs blocked for as long as he could without holding. The guy he’s going against is a professional too. You can’t expect Wirfs to block him forever.

So yeah, it was PI, and he got the call, but it was also a terrible throw. That’s my point. You can’t just look at the flag and say, “Well, he got the call, so it’s fine.” The ball was nowhere near where it needed to be.

And real talk, when have the Buccaneers ever gotten calls like that consistently besides when they had Brady? So if that’s what you’re looking for, don’t put yourself in a position where the entire play depends on the refs making the call. Give your receiver a chance to make a play and put the ball where it needs to be.

That alone will help us win games this year, but we’ll be somewhere between 7 and 10 wins depending on how the Baker act falls. Same as every year Todd’s been an HC.

    _______________________________

lol no it didn’t. they moved the ball well against a great defense that played lights out the whole game. still need to work on the oline some-that didn’t look like a top 5 line-and baker needs to tuck the ball better. on the 4 sacks, the bengals defense was on top of him almost as soon as the ball was snapped. it wasn’t him holding onto the ball for a really long time. meanwhile, burrows was only sacked once.

there were a couple of passes that should have been caught and weren’t, but only 5 incompletions in the whole game. some really nice passes that went pretty deep and into tight windows. no interceptions. his stats were better than burrow’s for the most part. i can’t believe how negative some on here are, even though i should expect it by now.

the bucs defense had quite a few good plays too, the rookies did a decent job. they shat the bed at the end for sure.

i just see a lot to be encouraged about.. it’s the first game. lots of new players, new oc and system, and equipment issues that im sure also didn’t help.

  135. Red86 Says:

The QB and Center are responsible for pass protection. You’re not getting a minute in the pocket. Get rid of the ball after you do 3,5, and 7 step drop back. The play are designed to get rid of the ball on those last steps for a reason.

  136. UKBuccaneer Says:

They had flashes on both sides of the ball. Baker can’t allow those fumbles, but also the o-line was trash, including Wirfs, the defense made so many mental errors but also showed some fight. A mixed bag. Week 1 is weird, it is what it is.

Usfbucs … ‘The lack of pass rush on defense hurt.’

I agree 100%. I watched the interior DLine quite a bit, and they were not only getting relatively little penetration, but they were also compromising their gaps, affecting run defense.

Bain’s run defense needs work. He failed to seal the edge on a number of runs to his side, and it cost us. I was personally expecting a LOT more out of Alex Anzalone than I saw also; I wasn’t at all impressed by his tackling or his pass coverage.

Every time I’d see Scott in the play, it was usually a bad omen. He missed several tackles that I saw, and I kept wondering what he was even doing out there on those plays (to have a 5th guy in the Secondary, we’d need to be down to 2 DLinemen because Bowles always keeps 2 OLBs & 2 ILBs out there.

Overall though, the defense allowed 26 pts … 2 TDs & 4 FGs. And one of those TDs was from a shorter field if I remember correctly. Plus the defense scored 7 pts. I was disappointed by the lack of pass rush & sacks, but that’s not what lost us the game.

Bowles over his 7 years here can be blamed for a lot of things, but it’s unfair to blame him for things that he has zero control over. Each team suits up 48 players for each game, and Bowles isn’t one of those 48. That game was winnable if not for the turnovers.

  164. Justin Says:

Offense seemed fine other than too many turnovers. I assume we won’t have many 4 fumble games. And we didn’t punt in the game. Defense again is porous. The Pick 6 was a real nice play, but we forced a total of 1 punt. Which means we basically got 2 stops, and when it was absolutely on the line with 3:50 to go, 3 time outs and Cinci’s ball on the 22, we couldn’t stop their 4 minute offense from churning 3 first downs.

  165. Canabuc Says:

On a positive front everybody in the NFC South lost today so at least we are still tied for first place LOL.

I am very concerned about Anzalone. He was brought in because he was good at tackling and coverage and he was terrible at both today. I honestly think that the rest of the defense outside of the pass rush played well. We literally held Chase and Higgins to less than 75 yards combined! Morrison played really well in replacing Parrish when he went out with injury. He was good in coverage and made some very key tackles at the line of scrimmage something I expected more from Winfield.

We can’t let a player like a Mike Gesicki at tight end do what he did to us in the middle of the field today. To me that was a fault of Alexander and an absence of our two safeties who seem to be playing way too deep all game.

I think we also have to scheme up the pass rush much better. Are two Edge rushers never sniffed the quarterback. I can understand maybe not getting five sacks but we didn’t really even get any quarterback hits. To me that is a scheme issue because I think between Muhammad Bain Diaby and Walker I should have seen way more against a below average offensive line.

  169. SoCalBucsFan79 Says:

The Bengals WRs didn’t do squat — 6 for 89 and no touchdowns — so anyone blaming the corners is just confessing they didn’t watch the game. The middle of the defense got steamrolled, the tight ends ran a cardio class (11 for 113 and a score), and the Bucs spent the afternoon missing tackles like it was a team‑building exercise. Meanwhile the offense coughed up four fumbles and handed Cincinnati 21 points like party favors, turning the defense into a permanent short‑field hostage. McCollum was not bored as he actually played janitor with 8 solos and 2 PBUs, Morrison stepped in without detonating, and none of it mattered because the middle got cooked and the offense lit the house on fire. If you’re still whining about the outside, you’re watching football the way toddlers watch clouds.

    ———————————————
this schtick of yours might be valid if literally every one of the people on here who you call “baker bois” hadn’t already posted that the fumbles were terrible and that baker needed to secure the ball better. so you just look like a moron.

the oline and the defense did contribute to the loss as well though. better oline play, and the bengals defense wouldnt have been in the backfield to be able to strip the ball from baker. better defensive play (especially on that last drive) and the bucs would have had a chance to win the game..

Well Rod you were right today, the offense and Baker handed this game to the Bengals.

    ——–

I didn’t say jack about anything today. The Bucs signed Baker to a huge new deal, they can’t move off him until at least 2029, so I’m hoping Baker can actually get it done.

Today he singlehandedly lost this game.

He’s done a lot of that.

With that said, as I wrote elsewhere, I think the odds of him ever fumbling like this again is pretty low. Also Baker at least looked decent when he passed the ball. So next week, Baker faces a a Browns team that just gave up a 245 yards and 4 TDs to Lawrence – which is completely misleading since that was almost all done in the 1st half of that game as the Jags went up 31-0 then just ran out the clock.

So next week I will be starting Baker in daily fantasy, I expect a big game. If we don’t get that next week, then everyone, even the Baker Boi(s), should be alarmed.

  184. LakelandSteve Says:

Offense looked terrible with Baker being a turnover machine. I was just as disturbed by the Bucs defense though. The Bengals seemed to do whatever they wanted. The Bucs couldn’t stop the run and too many wide open catches by the tight end for the Bengals. Whenever the Bengals needed to score they did. However this is just the first game of the season. Let’s see what next week looks like.

  185. JDStill Says:

Big bucks Baker in mid-Season form, unfortunately.

  186. Kenton Smith Says:

Heck, I think we’re gonna be really good. If the OLine was so bad Baker isn’t 23-28. Otten’s dropped a first down pass and Tez dropped a TD pass or it’d been better. If the OLine is so bad we don’t run for 100 yards.

First time I have seen our special teams win the day, and we did.

Defense set an early tone, got a giant play by Trotter, and played plenty well enough to win.

Four turnovers beat us, plain and simple. That’s gonna get corrected, and this team is going to win alot of games.

LICKT said it himself, that the only reason for why he extended Baker NOW, was after he got to ‘thinking’ (hahah LICKT and ‘thinking’ LMAO) about it… He just didn’t want to have to fool with it next offseason, and having to start all over again, from scratch LoL. Anyone saying that all turnovers did not lead points, yeah great, but they mean you score nothing on that possession, and you only get so many possessions a game, it adds to the other teams possessions.

The offensive line played very offensively, they just were not good, the Bengals D Line was way to much for them, then you add the multiple gift turnovers, and you gift wrap a win for a team.

    Defense????
Lets see Cornerbacks, play 10 yards off the ball and back pedal just before the snap, and gift 1st downs to the other team????? They do not have a pass rush, so why gift wrap 1st downs to the opponent again and again by playing so far off all the time??? Enough of the puzzy scared football. How about some press coverage.

@ Stucbuc Says: “The common denominator and root cause of this failed product is todd Bowles. Pure trash and not a head coach. Remove this garbage already. I will not attend a game until he’s gone. Not spending a cent on anything buccaneers until they improve. The rest of the division had improved and have competent HC.”

The much more realistic and common sense approach would be to be FAR MORE upset at the Baker Mayfield Extension. Cause, you are STUCK with THAT… And, will be paying for it for the next 6+YEARS, regardless of what happens (injury, old age, poor play, & Etc.). At least with Bowles, you can just completely walkaway from HIM at the end of the season scot free, and NEVER looking back again. That’s definitely NOT HAPPENING, with Mayfield. 💯

Saw the neck tackle to Baker. Personal foul not called. Maybe see a chiropractor before your neck causes problems next week. But Bowles did throw one red flag for a bad call, and won that one. Congrats to Bucky Irving moving the ball a total just under a hundred yards combined. Special congrats to defense rookie, Trotter, #45. What a start to his NFL career. A pick 6 and a sack! Double digit tackles too. Haven’t seen that in years, league wide for a first game defensive rookie. Picked a real winner. Need to do your homework Mr. Robinson. Our offense is better than what we saw today. Step up.
