Baker Mayfield Lands In Top-10 Of Chris Simms’ Quarterback Rankings
May 28th, 2026Joe thought it was fun yesterday when Chris Simms continued his annual in-depth NFL quarterback rankings and Baker Mayfield was not revealed while Simms climbed from No. 18 to No. 15.
It got a lot more interesting this morning.
The former Bucs quarterback, Raise The Flags star and current NBC analyst soaks in a full season of film and provides a deep breakdown and rankings of the top-43 NFL quarterbacks via several episodes of his Unbuttoned podcast.
Today, Simms shared Nos. 14 (Sam Darnold), 13 (Jared Goff), 12 (Trevor Lawrence) and 11 (Dak Prescott).
Mayfield has yet to appear. That means he’s in the top-10!
Last summer, Mayfield took the No. 9 spot on Simms’ big board, sandwiched between Justin Herbert at No. 8 and Dak Prescott at No. 10.
How much are the Bucs going to pay Mayfield, and when?
Remember, Simms watched a home Bucs game last December with Team Glazer in the fabled family suite. Joe would wager a few bucks the Glazer clan asked him to assess Mayfield.

Uh-oh, this will really rile up the anti baker crowd
May 28th, 2026 at 12:35 pm
Baker should have a nice, top ten year. Oc will tailor routes, schemes that fit bakers strengths. Coen-esque.
May 28th, 2026 at 12:40 pm
Haha. The haters will have a field day letting Chris know how much more they know about the quarterback position than he does. Should be fun.

I think Baker’s year will definitely depend on him staying relatively healthy. I think the better o line certainly helps. Unfortunately Baker tends to be his own worst enemy regarding injuries. Tough task getting him to play safer. I think the key is some other players helping him more. Get others to make that desperate play when needed so Baker can stay upright.
May 28th, 2026 at 12:45 pm
Hopefully, Baker will make Simms look like a prophet this season.
May 28th, 2026 at 12:48 pm
Hes better then Prescott
May 28th, 2026 at 12:55 pm
did Simms watch him the entire month of DEC?….thats why Glazers wont offer any loot until after DEC 2026
GO BUCS!!!
May 28th, 2026 at 12:58 pm
Baker lovers are thrilled with Simms list lol….as if it matters lol…
only Ws and Ls matter
GO BUCS!!!!

813 I would love to bet with you on that!
I guarantee you, Baker will be signed
And I knew you could not wait to come in and give your opinion on Baker. It’s so obvious you don’t like him.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:03 pm
The Bucs will look stupid if they don’t extend him now. DO IT!
Licht has said they are working on it but it’s been quite a while now. What’s the hold up? Get it done already. I fully expect him to follow Stafford’s trajectory and ball out throughout his 30’s. Why wouldn’t he? The talent level is undeniable. Protect him and win. Simple.

The thing about the Internet with everyone puking up trash you can pick what you want out of it and feel like it means something.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:17 pm
LOL!
May 28th, 2026 at 1:22 pm
The thing about the internet is that it’s amazing just how disingenuous people are. And fans of other teams show up here and stir things up regularly, that’s for sure…
May 28th, 2026 at 1:27 pm
813, I am in shock, and this SUR did Sims not consult you for your opinion. 🤪
May 28th, 2026 at 1:30 pm
In Bakers defense, the number of good QBs in the NFL is pretty low right now – and I’d still take Baker over Goff or Darnold.
Baker vs Lawrence is interesting, because just before the trade deadline last year I said I bet you anything that Coen would give us Lawrence and at least a 1st for Baker, probably multiple 1st’s, because Lawrence was playing terrible and tanking the team. But then, what do you know, Lawrence turned it around while Baker flopped. Right now, I’d rather have Lawrence – but he could turn into a pumpkin again – just like Baker did last year.
And I’d take Dak over Baker – if you’re talking about QB play and not talking about contracts.

Pay now or pay later. The only difference is the price.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
Surprised Rod that you haven’t realized yet it’s the team around the player that is responsible for such huge swings year to year. You have to look at overall individual talent not team record far more than you do. QB can do quite a bit to help a team win but they cannot do it by themselves and your shifting perspectives on Baker and Lawrence are a symptom of team changes not the players.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:42 pm
Here’s a good test:
Forgetting salaries, would you do a straight up swap of QBs?
Baker for …
Darnold – Yes
Goff – Yes
Lawrence – Yes
Prescott – Yes
They are all better than Baker. I guaranty you the other teams wouldn’t.
Baker isn’t top 10.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:47 pm
I would say no to all 4 of those. Baker slipped last year due to team injuries. I don’t know how many more different ways I can say it.

813
Wins only matter to Bucs fans. QB rankings and playoff qbr matter to Baker fans lol
May 28th, 2026 at 1:53 pm
These rankings are just meaningless stats for losers.
In no universe is Baker Mayfield better than Sam Darnold and Jared Goff.
Those two have been to the SB and Darnold won his. Baker has never sniffed a Conference title game.
All he ever does is choke under the pressure. Unless playing a hapless Eagles team of course.
He hasn’t been resigned because there’s zero urgency to do so after the 2-7 collapse of 2025, He is directly responsible for that disaster.
Now without his relief valve Mike Evans he will be even more under pressure.
He’s not worth a $50+ million a year investment. Not even close.
May 28th, 2026 at 1:58 pm
Since Baker is more individually talented than either one I disagree with everything you just said Mob. As is typical. The Bucs team was beset by injuries to crucial players last year. Simple.
May 28th, 2026 at 2:04 pm
“I would say no to all 4 of those. Baker slipped last year due to team injuries. I don’t know how many more different ways I can say it.”
That’s because that’s all you’ve been saying. You’re trying to make an omelet with 1 egg.
May 28th, 2026 at 2:05 pm
“Since Baker is more individually talented than either one”
Please provide examples to back up this theory of yours.
Just saying it doesn’t make it true without historical evidence.
Kind of like when you say Bowles is a great HC\DC.
Again, zero evidence other than your over the top Polly positive feelings.

Hey – WBL and LM50 are betting against Mayfield — Big surprise here!
Poor bet. But it doesn’t matter, you guys can just change your screen names (while you cringe in embarrassment over your continuous BS narratives).
May 28th, 2026 at 2:16 pm
Baker was an MVP candidate through the first 8 games last year. Then the bottom fell out of the O-line. Evans went into his annual hiding and Bucky got hurt. On top of everything, Griz had no idea how to adjust and Baker got the hell beat out of him.
I’m surprised this team won 8 games with the devastated offense and ridiculous defense.
So yeah, Baker is a top ten QB and the Bucs need to get a deal done ASAP before the price goes way up.
May 28th, 2026 at 2:16 pm
“Poor bet. But it doesn’t matter, you guys can just change your screen names”
Right because anybody saying anything bad about Baker or scrutinizing his worth as a football player has to be some small contingent of sect less football observers. How are these guys who blaspheme against Baker Mayfield lol
You sound stupid ex-brown02, leave me out of it and stick to the Randy Newman lyrics
May 28th, 2026 at 2:18 pm
The clock is ticking. Baker is in my view clearly worth a contract such as the one Purdy signed in 2025. Prescott signed last year at age 31 for 4 years and 60M.
So that takes us back to whether the owners will commit to Baker for 4 years. I do not see Baker accepting less than a 4 year deal.
I predict that Baker will not finish training camp here in Florida.
I hope I’m wrong.
May 28th, 2026 at 2:20 pm
Stupid, huh? You’re entitled to your opinion.
May 28th, 2026 at 2:24 pm
Whoa, Baker fans. Don’t get too excited before tomorrow. A munchkin told me that Baker didn’t make Simms’ Top-43. That’s why he’s not listed in the top 10 or 15.
