Falcons Beat Rams; Second Hurdle Added For Bucs Playoff Clinch

December 29th, 2025

Spoiler alert.

Things had gotten so ugly for the Bucs, they were in danger of finishing with a worse record than Atlanta if the Falcons beat the mighty Rams at home tonight.

And that’s exactly what happened.

On Monday Night Football, the surging but sad Falcons (7-9) beat the Rams 27-24 after nearly blowing a 21-0 hafltime lead.

As a result, Tampa Bay (7-9) lost a guarantee of the NFC South crown with a win against the Panthers (8-8) on Saturday at The Licht House. Now all three teams can finish 8-9 if the Bucs beat Carolina and the Falcons beat the surging Saints (6-10) in Atlanta. The Saints have won four straight games and Atlanta has won three in a row.

This is how far the Bucs have fallen.

Sadly, Joe knows there is a loud sect of Bucs fans hoping the Bucs miss the playoffs, a scenario that just got a lot more likely.

There is a 0% chance the Falcons beat the Saints next week. We’ve seen the same act over and over again.

The game on Saturday is still for the playoffs.

Stafford losing tonight should help Baker move up close to frontrunner for MVP now right?

Stafford in the MVP conversation after that? How is it not easily going to Maye?

    ———

Stafford looked like MVP Baker tonight choking with the game on the line.

Well actually he looked way better than Baker has looked in two plus months. Heck give the Bucs that version of Stafford and they still win 3 of the last 4.

  16. RagingBrisket Says:

Bucs are the worst team in the worst division in football.
Tell me again how the GM isn’t responsible for that?

  17. jake Says:

if the bucs win its all in the hands of the saints who are objectively a worse team than the falcons this is probably the nail in the coffin but who knows anymore.

  18. Daryl Green Says:

Start the the search the saints will not be the Falcons PERIOD.

  19. Let ‘em bake Says:

A loss Saturday, and Bucs lock in a third place schedule next year. Oh, how the mighty have fallen..

  20. Aqualung Says:

It doesn’t matter, no way the Bucs beat the Panthers anyway as long as the Belowszo is still standing on the sidelines promoting full regression.

  21. Yeahmetoo Says:

Ahhh we might be back to being the yucks but atleast with some new leadership the
Rebuild will be more fun then this season turned out to be.

  22. Aceofaerospace Says:

The Bucs don’t deserve to go to the playoffs. There’s no reason to believe the Bucs can beat Carolina so it really doesn’t matter. Fire Toilet Bowels Saturday night before he leaves the locker room.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

You retards celebrating the Bucs not making the playoffs are assuming the Falcons won’t fall flat on their faces vs the Saints. If you’re not an idiot, you already know the Falcons will lose that game. Sorry so-called Bucs fans who are rooting for the Bucs not to make the playoffs, the game on Saturday will still decide who makes the playoffs – not the dumb Falcons.

  24. MadMax Says:

Shutup rod, you’re inbred low iq dna is shining….you somali by any chance?

  25. Earresponsible Says:

Are you allowed to forfeit a game in the NFL. It would be a travesty for the Bucs to be in the playoffs with a loosing record regardless of what happened tonight.

  26. Lakeland Says:

    🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂

It’s looking bad in Yuc Yuc Land 😝

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

By by Bowles and take your trash quarterback with you!! He shouldn’t have been the starting quarterback anyway. You gifted Baker Mayfield the starting job in 2023 and look how it ended for you. Lol 😂😂 your favoritism is why you are about to get fired coaches like that always lose at the end.

  28. Trevor Says:

This scenario is hilarious on multiple levels. Not only the straight up nonsense for Bucs / Panthers fans if the Bucs win, but the fact that the NFL set this Saturday gave figuring the Rams would win, and the winner of the only game at 4p on Saturday would be the NFC South champ, and now that’s no longer a foregone conclusion.

  29. Daryl Green Says:

You know he’s getting fired now.
You control your own destiny and you put in the hand of another team.
    WOW what a collapse.

  30. DBS Says:

Now way we beat Carolina anyway. Good teams get better. Bad teams (which the Bucs are) fall flat on their asses. If Bowles survives this then the Glazer’s are gutless.

  31. Couch Fan Says:

I dont see anything exciting about a 1 and done playoff trip.

  32. jake Says:

i want the bucs to make it i just know that out of the two games the falcons had coming up this is the one they should have lost now its looking grim. yes they may end up losing but lets not forget the bucs have looked like a bottom 3 team in the nfl over the 2nd half of the season this is on them and the coaching staff. HISTORIC COLLAPSE

  33. Tucker Says:

Thing is joe no one has to hope for it bucs are doing it all on their own.

  34. DBS Says:

Obviously I want Bowles gone but not like this. I would have gladly watched a win Sunday and a Bucs playoff game. Maybe that wasn’t gonna happen but this sucks.

I will be cheering for the Bucs and Saints this weekend, foolish as it may seem to some of you. Sadly, I probably have more faith in the Saints than the Bucs.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Oh wait, the Baker Boi(s) were rooting for the Falcons to win, so when Baker chokes for the 5th game in a row, they can claim the Bucs were already out of it, so it doesn’t count and wasn’t his fault. Now it makes sense.

Says who? I had the Rams losing to the Panthers, then the Panthers losing to the Saints – and thought this was like a 60/40 game for the Rams.

But the Falcons losing to the Saints? That’s a 100% lock. Take the moneyline bet on New Orleans – who by the way, have been playing the best football of anyone in the NFC South for the last month.

It’s a bunch of jerk-ffs who are convinced if Bowles goes away the Bucs will magically be in the Super Bowl next year. Meanwhile, they’ll be a 6 or 7 win team again next year and all these idiots will be calling for the new coach to also be fired. It’s part of the low-IQ life style.

  51. BucsFan81 Says:

For us fans that have been here for the long haul understand how bad this is about to be. Losing the division and not making the playoffs is back to the lost decade. Which sucks cause losing games every year is not fun and that’s where this franchise is heading.

  52. FortMyersDave Says:

Ugh, so the Bucs now are probably playing a meaningless game. Well, let’s see if that helps or hurts the team… If the Bucs think it is meaningless, they may light up the scorebpard like bad teams do in garbage time. However, it will also cost them some draft positioning in April for the new head coach…. On the bright side, maybe Artie Blank decides to give Rah one more year if he finishes 8-9 and that will be one less team the Bucs will have to compete with to get a decent replacement for Bowles.

  53. Lakeland Says:

@RodButtMunch, I have not seen one person say if we fire Bowles we will be in the Super Bowl next year. Quit drinking and typing.

    ———

And you think all these dummies who literally call for everyone to be fired and cut when we lose in week 2 of the preseason, that these same idiots won’t be calling for everyone to be fired again next year at this time? It’s the same thing, over and over and over again.

Just firing people to hire more middling coaches doesn’t do anything – and with Baker’s $42M guaranteed deal, and an aging roster, but also one that you can’t do a full reboot on because of the Baker contract, who is coming here? Another middling coach is the answer. I’d rather eat one more year of Bowles and Baker and then do a proper reboot when you can do a real reset. Or, who knows, maybe Baker really was injured and when he’s better, the Bucs win all these games and they’re a legit threat. But the ‘behind door number 2’ nonsense is just dragging things out.

I’m still hoping the Bucs win on Saturday and the Falcons lose and the Bucs make the playoffs. But then again I’m an actual Bucs fan as opposed to 99% of the idiots posting here who actively root against the team.

    ——–

Baker threw for over 360 yards and 2 TDs last week and everyone is hating on him, he basically single handedly kept the Bucs in the game! He had everything under wraps and the victory sealed up, but Chewbacca was jealous of his greatness so he let the Dolphins player get through completely untouched to rob Baker of the greatness he’s due. If everyone would stop plotting against Baker, his true final form could then be achieved. The fact the cheap Glazers are only paying him $42M next year for what will be his first of many MVP seasons is insane, and Baker should tell the team he’ll never play here again and demand to go play somewhere, even Canada if he needs to in order to make the point that he’s the best!

I give my word I will not bash you for you comments, I’m just legit interested in what people think will happen next – obviously with very little to go on at this point. It’s OK to be wrong, we’re taking wild swings at an uncertain future – but I’m wondering what the expectations are in terms of wins next season.

  94. AnonymousBucsFan76 Says:

Todd Bowles is not the guy…

He’s was a below .500 coach before he became HC in Tampa; inherits a Super Bowl team only to be sitting right.500 4 years later as the Bucs HC. He’s a super duper nice guy that’s not a good HC. The fact of the matter is we’re regressing;; good coaches don’t lose 8 or 9 games a year. Continuing to roll with Todd is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound and wondering why you’re bleeding out. Please Please Please Fire! him we can do so better…

Legit question for those who ‘want everyone fired’…

I am ready for a rebuild it’s time. Bowles will not ever win a Super Bowl. Baker is a mid-tier QB. Licht and his scouts honestly can see legit talent and built this mess. Rip the band-aid off.

  98. C-spann4 Says:

    *can not

  99. Rod Munch Says:

MadMax – It’s more about what happens next. I think Bakers guaranteed money next year severely limits what the Bucs options will be at coach, and I think that leads to a middling candidate. What I’ve said, what I keep saying, is because of that deal, and because of the older roster, I’d rather have one more year of Bowles, and then blow it up after next season when you can start a proper rebuild and can hire a hot prospect. I legit don’t think that will be an option this offseason – and I don’t want to get stuck with another middling coach for 4 years as they get a mulligan next year, then you’re rebuilding with a guy who was there really just to fix the team for 2026. It’s by far an endorsement of Bowles, I fully expect him to fail, but it’s about limiting the fallout to one year vs multiple years.

Also there is the small possibility that maybe Baker is the QB from 2024 and injuries really did limit him this year. If that’s the case, then you’d get a huge bounce back next year in the same offense that he exceled in in 2024. Again, I don’t think the ‘Baker is injured’ nonsense is real – but if it is, keeping the same OC for 2 years in a row, for the first time in his career, is that a bad thing?

And I have said if Bowles was to come back, and I’m the Glazers, I’m forcing him to give up the defensive play calling duties – and I’m putting a fine in all the coaches contract if the Bucs are in the top half of teams playing zone defense in 2026.

I’m laying out my ideas – yet I never really see people saying what they want, they just yell, ‘fire everyone’ – so if that’s the case, then what?

    ——–

Fair enough, but how do you start the rebuild with Baker still here? The Bucs aren’t drafting high enough to get a QB, and they won’t have the money to bring in any real competition. Yet Baker is also, at times, good enough to still get you 6 or 7 or even 8 wins, in which case you still won’t be high enough to draft a new QB. Baker’s deal next year, fully guaranteed $42M cap hit, is a much bigger issue than I think people realize.

Anywho, I appreciate the response – and I too am for a full rebuild, just in 2027, not 2026.

  102. Mr. Barf Says:

I’m calling 34 – 7 Bucs beat Panthers…our BEST game in all 3 phases the season….Then THUD…face first into door closing when ATL snot rockets the Saints..what else do we expect from the Bucs this year…Barf out.

  103. C-spann4 Says:

@Rod Munch use Baker as a Bridge QB and draft a kid like Drew Allar or whom ever the Offensive coach wants to develop. The biggest priority is build the trenches on both sides of the ball especially on Defense. The signed talent in the WR room should be enough to be effective offensively. At this point any defensive scheme other that Bowles would work especially with upgraded talent.

  104. Daryl Green Says:

I will take Matt Jones right now if we trade away Baker to the Raiders or the Jets. Let thier rookie quarterbacks sit for a year that are going to draft. Then Kubiak when would be my choice in that scenario. Steelers will need Qb you have to make bold moves. I not impressed with any of these quarterbacks come out this year. I know Bker will be our qb next year, then give a true play caller. And a fn coach with some spirt.

  105. Tony Says:

    @DBS

The Glazers pretty much are gutless. Watch he’ll probably end up staying & they want to spend as little $$$$ as possible. They don’t wanna spend the $$$$ or make any changes but they expect all these changes to happen somehow. Fans should boycott the team then maybe they’d get the message.

  106. Cleanhouse Says:

Why is the Saints beating the Falcons a lock? Are you people all insane? It’s a divisional rivalry with two teams on win streaks who hate each other! A toss up at best!

We probably won’t even do our part, so it will be irrelevant.

  107. Daryl Green Says:

@ the end of day we love our Buc from all
Across the country. I can’t watch this uninspired
Coach , Coach this team again. Lvd is gone find, me a center
and move Barton to guard what can we get for Winfield, he’s fine in a two safety look
    Single high no range.

  108. Daryl Green Says:

Saints are not beating the Falcons.

  109. Daryl Green Says:

Black Monday is coming. Fans wiil lose thier minds
When it leaks that the first interview will Mike McArthury

  110. Boltsfan17 Says:

If you attend the game this Sunday, you simply don’t hate this trash team enough.

  111. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    Rod Munch is delusional.

The Saints/Falcons game is 50/50 next week.

    It could go either way.

I think there’s prob a 20-30% chance that we beat the Panthers anyway.

The Panthers don’t usually lose 2 in a row and they lost this week, so the odds are not in our favor to beat them.

  112. MadMax Says:

Great post Rod, I admire that….and you werent name calling :).

I just finished a 12 hr shift and going in for 12 more in about 9 hrs. from people taking vacation time and stuff. But I’ll try to be quick about it….

I saw this after todd was made HC and in his scheme as DC, and his personality and just everything, he just doesnt have it…(btw, saw that too with Grizzard but wanted to give him a chance).

Now, you want to see us go as far as we can, get in the playoffs…. well duh, that was the goal for all of us. And theres a part of me hoping this has all been done on purpose to not show our hand too much since todd likes to be so conservative once he gets a 3 point lead. But you start paying attention to that and his scheme and his stupid clock management and everything stupid about it and just get tired of it. We have some talent to build around, so if we get the right ones in place, we can make some noise next year and then the next.

It doesnt automatically mean we’re only going to win 3 games because we have a whole new staff and some new players, in which you stubbornly keep referring to.

Are you using chat gpt now or something? because you all of a sudden transformed into someone with some logical reasoning without name calling and putting people down….you’re weird or just a complete troll. But keep up this latest version and you might have some actual intelligent interactions with people, including keeping your emotional intelligence in check.

Trust me, we have a nice foundation of talented players to build on here. We just need to find the right ones who can play to their strengths, figure out the other team’s weaknesses that we play, figure out how to not make stupid mistakes and stupid decisions….and all of that bowls down to Bowles in the end.

  113. Adam Says:

    Im done with Bowles

*secretly rooting for Atlanta this weekend.

  114. HC Grover Says:

This team can only beat itself.

  115. Adam Says:

Falcons just beat the rams but they’ll never beat the Saints?
lol whatever dude. someone clearly needs/wants attention.
can’t believe half of you guys waste your time responding to
    that dude.

  116. MadMax Says:

    ^ i know, and i rarely do

  117. Former Mrs Brady Says:

Well the good part is both these teams on Saturday won’t know their fate. Carolina certainly won’t take the game lightly hoping for Atlanta to beat New Orleans. The Saints are playing very well and they would be happy to eliminate the team depending on them to lose. Who does the league prefer in the playoffs. Tampa Bay because it’s a larger market than Carolina.

The embarrassment is possibly another 8-9 team making the playoffs. It’s never going to change because the league won’t penalize a team winning it’s division. The only way fair way to do it is a computer driven program that awards playoff spots based on strength of wins and schedule. Fans might not be happy about it. They would say it’s not their fault that the NFC South is always a bad division.

It’s like the NBA. They should reseed regardless of conference. The best teams should play the best teams. How about simply making an exclusion in the pro football where no team that isn’t above .500 not get in the playoffs. Sorry if you win your division. Go 9-8 or go home.
