Baker Mayfield “Smokin’ On All Cylinders”

October 5th, 2025

Did Baker Mayfield just have his best game in a Buccaneers’ uniform?

Completing 29 of 33 passes in Seattle certainly was his best completion percentage since the Bucs signed him for peanuts off the street in 2023.

Would somebody please put Bucs GM Jason Licht in the Ring of Honor?

Mayfield was damn near flawless today leading the Bucs to a 38-35 thriller of a win. Mayfield ran wisely, 5 scrambles for 15 yards, and his deep ball was cooking en route to a 379-yard day with 2 touchdowns.

“Baker was very sharp, came out smokin’ on all cylinders and played that way the entire game,” Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said.

That’s almost an understatement.

Mayfield has 10 touchdowns against 1 interception this season, the best ratio of his career by a few miles. He’s also on pace for 4,362 yards passing with 34 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Those are MVP numbers.

Most important, Tampa Bays is 4-1 and in good position to cruise into the Week 9 bye without what had been the trademark Bowles-Bucs nosedive in the standings.

baker and EE plays like theyve been together for 10 years

  2. Danfan Says:

he might have had a higher completion percentage this time round, but its hard to go past that Dec 2023 game against the Packers – 381 yards, 22-of-28, 4 TDs, 0 INTs, perfect 158.3 passer rating

  3. Whatevs Says:

Top 5 QB in the league.

  4. Joseph C Simmons Says:

This is win is SO huge, in large part because of the trademark nosedive you mentioned. I’m so glad the Eagles loss didn’t turn into a losing streak. 49ers next week–another one loss team–is going to probably be another heart attack waiting to happen. But let’s enjoy this one for now.

  5. ocala Says:

He is a top 3 QB in the NFL

  7. 813bucboi Says:

    No INTs/TOs=WINS

    4-1

    GO BUCS

  8. Gipper Says:

Not surprised at all. Baker completed 23 straight passes in a 5TD game against the Bengals back in 2020. Not only does he have a bazooka of an arm but he is incredibly accurate. He likes EE because he knows where EE will be with a tight route. Review the perfect throws he has made on EE TD’s this year.

  9. HeartyDickerson Says:

Baker’s long ball has seemed to be a significant weakness last several years. It looked fantastic today. EE lookin like he should’ve been drafted top 3. Hope they can keep it up.

  10. Dom Says:

His numbers are only going to get better when Mike and Luke come back and Godwin continues to knock off the rust

  11. Davyboy Says:

That cream is still RISIN!!! 380 yards, 88% completion, passer rating 135, QBR 90.6 and a great team win. 4-1

  12. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    Baker is tha man

  13. ModHairKen Says:

That was a spectacular game for him.

He needs to have a private conversation with LD and light a fire under the Defense’s backside.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Don’t forget JMacs return

  15. Marky mark Says:

The Baker Bros were right all along.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

No turnovers either, great job from the pocket today from Mayfield. Let’s make it a habit

  17. Marky mark Says:

Baker has been this good from day one despite lousy organizations until the Rams and Bucs. Set a rookie td record in 12 games until the current Chargers QB broke it in 16 games.

  18. Eric Says:

The stats are great but the way he leads this team is what makes him Baker. I don’t really know how to watch Bucs football with this kind of offensive firepower.

    It’s a strange experience.

  19. Gofortheface30 Says:

I mean….he is the first human to ever have 375 yards passing with 5 or fewer incompletions in NFL HISTORY, so stat wise – I’d say it was more than his own personal best game in a Bucs uniform. It will likely be the best statistical game anyone will have this year. Gnna be waiting a very long time before you see any quarterback anywhere going 29-33 for almost 400 yards

  20. Mac Says:

I wouldn’t say the nosedive is past us. 49ers and Lions will be tough games. If we can split them and beat the Aints I think all of us will be extremely happy!

  21. Gofortheface30 Says:

Eric – the Bucs have had a top 5 offense going back to 2018 with weapons all over the place, so idk what you’re talking about. Almost a decade doesn’t cure your 2010’s PTSD? The Bucs are a model organization with easily a top 3 general manager. The things you’re paranoid about was so long ago

  22. Proudbucsfan Says:

I said it before the season Baker is going to be the MVP

  23. Davyboy Says:

Can you imagine if we were healthy?!?!! Cade Otton is doing such a great job of blocking and YAC.

  24. Esteban85 Says:

That pass to Sterling Shepherd was a thing of beauty. Rolling left and throwing for a righty is so hard and he put that ball on a dime in between two defenders. Baker throws on the run better than any other QB in the league

  25. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Would it be out of the ordinary for Licht to pay Baker now? If this dude keeps fire and wins an MVP or even a ring, that negotiation changes a LOT.

  26. heyjude Says:

    Exhilarating!

  27. #99 the big fella Says:

Everyone forgets JMac had 8 touchdowns last year. Wait until he comes back.

  28. Hodad Says:

Baker’s success like Darnold’s is being at the right place, at the right time. After bouncing around the league, they both finally found competent teams to play for.

  29. SJComm64 Says:

    Baker Baker Record Maker!!!

  30. orlbucfan Says:

Hats off to Todd Bowles for grabbing Feisty Bake off the slag heap. What a QB! What in the world is wrong with Cleveland, letting this guy go? He started sliding, too. I’m grateful. Can you imagine what this offense will be like when everyone returns? Is it Halloween yet?
