“Don’t Get Bored Being Dominant”

September 20th, 2021

Joe blubbered all spring and summer how the 2021 Bucs offense could be the greatest in NFL history.

And here we are, the offense isn’t firing on all cylinders but it’s scoring a lot of points and Tom Brady is on pace for 76 touchdown passes through two games.

Former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht, who used to break down game film for Buccaneers.com before he started working Jets broadcasts, is incredibly impressed by what he sees from Brady and friends through two games.

Not one for hyperbole, Becht said twice on WDAE radio today that he advises the Bucs, “Don’t get bored being dominant,” adding, “that may be a t-shirt.”

He marvled at the Bucs formational diversity in their pass-first offense, noting the Bucs can spread you out and get big in jumbo packages with Josh Wells.

Becht said he’s seeing multiple guys open repeatedly and noted that 28 points in a half would never be a surprise from the Bucs offense.

Yeah, there’s more, per Becht, “overall fantastic protection” from the offensive line.” And he loved the way offensive line came off the ball in the run game and  Leonard Fournette’s pass blocking.

What a time to be alive. The Bucs are on a 10-game winning streak and are leaving a lot of points in the field.

I was pleasantly surprised with the jumbo package, Wells actually moved some people.

  2. Coburn Says:

There are also a couple guys they are keeping as fresh legged secret weapons for later in season. Scotty Miller in particular comes to mind if he isn’t rusty lol… oj could be if he ever gets healthy… Bernard our new RB is very slowly being sprinkled in.

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

We used Jumbo package a ton last season after Brady changed the offense

  4. Rod Munch Says:

There’s no secret plan, Scotty isn’t being ‘saved’ for anything, the Bucs are just insanely loaded.

Brady ‘only’ threw for 270 yards yesterday, so there wasn’t a ton of yards to go around.

  5. Coburn Says:

Yeah I’m not saying saving him is some scheme, I’m well aware he’s being crowded our. Just saying when they need him later he will have fresh legs and might be slept on is all

    Good points Coburn!

My friend Pete is correct.Brady loves 12 personnel. If you have tight ends that can block, and you do, it creates huge problems for defenses. Gronk can run the TE delay, the old block and pop, anytime defenses overplay the run. It’s base for the New England offense, and Brady killed teams for years with play action out of 12 personnel. I’d personally like to see more of it. Defenses have to play the run, or get steam rolled. Brady is more than happy to hand it off against light fronts.

BA’s contention that last year’s slow start was due to Tom learning his system was clearly fiction; the system has evolved incorporating Tom’s experience.

    Coburn

Agreed. And look for a big serving of Gio in week four.

  10. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Offense is dominating so much that they score quicker than last year and even though the defense has a hard time getting itself off the field the offense is part of the reason the T.O.P. is so skewered more to the opposing team.

  11. Swampbuc Says:

The defense is vulnerable. Pass rush not at all close to potential, Devin White whiffed on two blitzes he should have plastered Ryan, tackling sucks, Cockrell sucks, JPP doesn’t get penetration, Suh looks a step slower, – thank God for Air Brady.

The reckoning comes in LA. Bucs better figure out how to pressure Stafford or they will lose. Period.

  12. JB2 Says:

    Skewed. Not skewered.

Was watching one of NFL networks day after shows (think it was “Moving The Chains”), and the subject of most explosive offenses came up. The 3 “experts” proceeded to name about 6 teams they thought would have explosive offences this year, and the Bucs weren’t one of them! This, a day after they set the NFL record for consecutive 30+ point games. Still no respect!

  14. Wild Bill Says:

@ Robbed. The large market teams get more attention from the talking heads. Got to please the advertisers and big dollar audiences.
