There’s a highly intelligent former Super Bowl winner in NFL media that often has a fresh perspective on every team.
He’s also the father of the superstar running back the Buccaneers consistently shut down. Joe’s talking about retired receiver Ed McCaffrey, who’s a regular co-host on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
McCaffrey noted this week that the Packers largely have run the ball effectively at will all season long but it would be shocking if they can do that against the Bucs defense. McCaffrey doesn’t believe they will. And that will greatly change how the Packers approach their offense, he said, likely forcing them to eliminate “keepers and movement passes,” as well as play-action.
The Bucs will be thriving defensively if they can slightly limit receiver Davante Adams versus letting him go off completely, McCaffrey said, which is what the Packers likely will need to put up enough points to win.
As for the Bucs offense, McCaffrey thinks Brady lost his composure in Chicago and he’s clearly not happy with team’s play.
Will the Bucs offense unite around a regrouped Brady this Sunday, or will it need to keep finding its way slowly? McCaffrey wondered that aloud and Joe is right there with him.
This is a game where the Bucs need to come together and play their first complete game of the season. It’s Week 6. It’s at home. No excuses.
As for the run defense, the Bucs haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in 13 consecutive games. Joe’s not worried about them stopping the run.

Vea has only played 50% +/- of the defensive plays anyway. He is a huge loss, but this team with Suh and JPP will fight!

I think….we wont see much of a drop off with our run defense but i do think we might actually see a bit more pressure in passing situations. As good as Vea is, getting to the QB wasn’t his premier trait.

NDog, got to agree with you on this one. This will be a true guage of Vea’s importance on the D-line. I hope the 2’s are able to plug the hole and keep the whole D-front functioning as it has been.

Losing Vea definitely hurts our run d but we still have several good players to help cover for his loss. This is gonna be a tough game with or without Vea. Next man up attitude and go ball

Losing Vea looks like a crushing blow to our run defense, but I’ll hold off judging until I see how Roches plays. We have the talent to beat the Packers on both sides of the ball and we replaced an erratic, turnover prone qb, with the best player in football history. Ya, Brady’s old, but he can still sling it. I hope our 89 million coaches have got our players heads on straight for this game, because the inconsistency is killing us.

When our defense is giving up 70% pass completion, running the ball will not be important to Rogers. We give up 3rd and longs and 4th and shorts all day long. They play soft coverage, 10 yards off their receivers and get burned all day long. The only reason why there are in incompletions is because the qb missed his mark or a dropped pass. Very few passes defensed. Rogers will pass pass pass until he gets in the red zone then they can run run run because this defense can’t stop tds from happening in the red zone.
