“You’ve Got To Call A Spade A Spade”

October 29th, 2018

Outraged at thought of Jameis starting again.

Want a glimpse of what it may be like in the Bucs locker room? Then watch former Pro Bowl fullback Michael Robinson.

The co-host of “Good Morning, Football” on NFL Network nearly had a stroke when fellow co-host Mike Garafolo noted that Bucs coach Dirk Koetter may be looking at the future of the organization by sticking with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in an effort to fix Jameis and for Koetter to save his job.

Robinson nearly falls off his chair. “His job is to win games!” Robinson hollers.

Wwweeelll… Koetter was hired to develop Jameis. People who have been around the Bucs know that. The winning was supposed to come when Jameis was a finished product.

But just like veteran players freak out over tanking for a better draft pick, players don’t give a damn about a player’s development when it may interfere with winning. Robinson’s reaction, as you can see in the video below, demonstrates that.

Starting Fitz for short term success doesn’t make sense. If they don’t believe Jameis is the answer, we should start the fire-sale immediately.

  2. WalkdaPlank Says:

It’s year 4. The time to develop has come and gone. If Winston doesn’t get it by now he never will. And clearly he didn’t have it yesterday.

Fitz gives he team the best chance to win. And Koetter needs wins if he wants to keep his job. What do you think he’s gonna do?

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t be a bit surprised to see Jameis starting against Carolina……It is Koetter’s nature to give additional chances to star players (Doug Martin)……Koetter can say that he will have Jameis on a very short leash…..it would be very difficult for him to continue to bench Jameis….the number one overall pick…..and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler….Jameis Winston.

    Don’t be surprised.

  4. zzbucs Says:

Who cares what this guy has to say!!! We put much attention on what the so called experts say, this duda, Garofalo, Mr Rapaport!!!! remeber last year when this guys said that therer were issues in betwwen Coach Koetter and JW??? It really makes me mad this so called expèrts, but they are only just a bunch of tabloid journalists………

  5. Listen Man Says:

We get you like to be cute with your little nick names, but this nonsense about “Americas QB” is garbage and makes me physically ill when I read it.

  6. Ray Rice Says:

JW has to sit the rest of the way. Offense has no juice when he’s in. Offense looks dynamic and energized when Fitz is at QB. Its evident even from the TV screen.

  7. The Real Malloy Says:

If he starts Jameis, the locker room will not handle it well. We all saw the body language when Jameis was in vs Fitz. They will play for Fitz. Jameis has lost their respect. You go with Fitz and try to save your job by sneaking into the playoffs.

Who’s going to take him and give us anything of value, when the deadline is in two days, and they know Jameis may get released at end of the season when he’s owed $21M?

You start Fitz and use Jameis at this point if it’s absolutely necessary, unless you can trade him at the deadline for a high draft pick or a piece you need, neither of which I expect the Bucs will be able to get.

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m, taling a serious look at our schedule this morning. And I don’t see 5 more wins for Koetter. Maybe 3 at best. Koetters just about done. You can stick the..Thanksgiving fork in him. I’m willing to bet the Glazers already have there little mew coaching aquisitionall committe going. Jameis though is not done yet. He’s still got time. I see him still here thru next season. We shall see. But I do see new coaches for our Bucs next season.

Very good point and I would not be surprised. I don’t think Jameis deserves to start, but Koetter might just go down with his QB.

Thing is, Fitz didn’t just come in and not throw picks, he came in and dominated a Bengals defense that shell shocked Jameis. And he has 3 400 yard games this season, a better record, and a better TD/INT ratio since being on the Bucs.

That means that if Jameis starts against Carolina, the bar is going to be set high. Really high. He could come out and not throw any INT’s but if he doesn’t replicate or better Fitz’ numbers then the calls for his head are only going to get louder.

    Just my opinion.

  11. Dre Says:

Here’s the thing … and I bash jameis all the time here because well… he’s not a good qb… plain and simple … glazers May have minds made up right now as far as koetter goes…. koetter litch and jameis are together period. The only way koetter keeps his job is if the bucs make the playoffs with “jameis” … if koetter goes with Fitzpatrick regardless of the outcome with Fitz playoffs or not he’s still going to Ben fires because he was hired for the job because of jameis and the glazers dirk and litch all went in on jameis … he’s supposed to be the future …. things are not working out … glazers could have gone another route with a different coach but gave him the job based on jameis … so obviously we’re not going to go to the playoffs with jameis … with that said it’s a lose lose situation torn koetter And Jason … this was a bad mistake from the the beginning hiring koetter … I feel bad for dirk because he’s in way over his head

This is the big wild card. For this to happen, the Glazers have to believe in Jameis despite everything our eyes have been telling us the last several weeks, which would mean that Koetter is dead man walking right now. They would have to believe that Jameis can be salvaged, just not with the current coaches. Ultimately, what they think is what matters most.

  13. Dre Says:

Excuse me litch and glazers went all in on jameis

  14. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Dre

Partially agree with you except for it Koetter makes the playoffs with Fitz no way he gets fired. And he could not make the playoffs with Jameis as his QB and also not get fired barring Jameis has a second half comeback.

    Both scenarios are highly unlikely

  15. RustyRhinos Says:

I want to Win games! I do not care if it is Winston, Fitzpatrick, or Griffin. I want to WIN! We have had over 3 1/4 seasons of watching our #1 draft chance show us what he has in the NFL. We are left with our views on our #1 draft chance’s future potential. Each of us has our view on if we should keep him or let him go. I wish our #1 draft chance the best however the Buccaneers organization decides to go.
Wins is the only stats that matter.
    Go Bucs!

  16. Fartman Says:

I can’t speak for any one else… but he will definitely lose me if he starts Winston.

  17. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

I am able to admit I was one of JW’s biggest fans , but after that whatever it was in Cincy , you have to go with Fitz. If you get offered a first rounder for Winston , you should trade , even though Bucs are going to pay his base salary next year regardless due to them exercising their option , but that payout reduction might induce a prospective suitor.

  18. buc15 Says:

Koetter wasn’t hired to develop Jameis, he was hired to win championships. THE END

  19. zzbucs Says:

I have to go with you Fartman!!!! I am a huge KOetter´s fan and I would love him to stay for a long period of time, because I think he is a good coach , but if he keeps this JW thing he will lose me for sure!!

  20. AlteredEgo Says:

How can you develop a QB that does not follow instructions….

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Koetter needs some cover with this decision……from either Licht, the Glazers or both.
No matter what his decision is….he is probably cooked….if he stays with Jameis and loses….he’s cooked…..if he benched Jameis and loses….he’s cooked….either way….he has to win and win several games…..

  22. Tackleblockwin Says:

The Glazers will also be thinking about which QB brings fans to the game.

  23. Petty Officer Buc Says:

You’ve got to call a spade a spade, but don’t you dare call Winston “America’s Turnover Machine”.

Keep sticking with Americas QB even though nobody in Tampa Bay, much less America, thinks he should be QB of anything. Would he even have a job in the CFL if he was cut today?

  24. Ed Says:

How about a quality Quarterback coach, instead of the player having more experience then the coach, how about a coach with some experience like Shawn king.

  25. LakeLand Says:

Dirk Koetter has develop Jameis Winston
The Bucs haven’t made the playoffs

What the purpose of keeping Koetter around?

  26. LakeLand Says:

    **Hasn’t develop Jameis**

  27. Fartman Says:

Its a top 5 offense with out Winston, not sure why you would want to throw that out.

  28. Aceofaerospace Says:

The only thing I’m sure of is that I will not see Winston starting next week. If he starts, I’m done. I won’t watch. I’ve had enough of this farce.

  29. TOM Says:

    Shawn King? What a laugh.

  30. bkgrime Says:

what makes you think Koetter is a good NFL HC?

  31. Ed Says:

Hey Tom, name the qualifications this Quarterback Coach has, That Shawn King do not have.

  32. The Real Malloy Says:

    Ed,

Where the %uck did you get Shaun King (spell it right Ed)? You just pulling names out of your ass? Shaun King…unbelievable.

  33. Not there yet Says:

Guys on this team need to listen to Geraldine, it’s not about wins it’s about having fun no matter what lol. Players don’t get paid to make personnel decisions so I’m pretty nobody cares what fans want either the stadium is already empty. You already know what Fitz can do for 2-3 games before he goes mental. It’s easy to move on from Winston until you realize the other option is Fitz wearing adult diapers instead of a jock strap. I say let Winston give us a high draft pick and a better coach and gm by playing. It will do nothing for next year or the future by winning 3-4 more games thanks to Fitz. That won’t get us into the playoffs or save jobs either

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

The Bucs fans have given up on JW big time. I was shocked at the reaction. I listened to TKRAS and Ronnie this morning and they were livid and went off on JW. EVERY call to their show…a dozen that I heard…all want Jameis GONE!!!

Koetter is truly hosed. If he plays JW the fans revolt…if he plays Fitz does ownership revolt? I don’t think Koetter has any way of keeping his job other than reaching the playoffs. Does anybody think JW is getting us there this year….JW is shell shocked…his nerves are shot…he is NOT seeing the field at all and from the fear and confusion in his eyes it appears he KNOWS it and his confidence is shot.

  35. Back2bucball Says:

Man, y’all have no clue! If coach benches Jameis and they sneak in the playoffs with Fitz and who knows, wins one playoff game there is no way they fire coach or GM… Period!

  36. Etzel Says:

Lavonte, GMC, Grimes, Fitz, Desean. Should all be up for grabs.

  37. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Jamies should be dressed in street clothes standing on the sidelines for rest of season

  38. Larry Says:

Time to cut all ties. Winston/HC/GM. they all need to go. There are some really good, young head coaching candidates out there. Time to get one along with a general manager. Let them draft or develop the new QB. Bench Winston immediately so that he doesn’t get hurt and so you won’t owe him the $21 million. Let some other team deal with ALL his problems. The Bucs core players are decent. The top is NOT!!!

  39. Buc4evr Says:

Play Jameis, I don’t want to have any doubt at the end of the season if we have to unload him for a sixth round pick next year. For all intents and purposes the season ended yesterday and nothing I’ve seen indicates much improvement.

  40. joestang Says:

I think winston will start this week. Koetter is bullheaded and will not give up on Jameis.

  41. westernbuc Says:

Koetter we hired to give continuity to Jameis and his development, in large part because his offense was great.

The offense is better, Jameis is worse. Keep Koetter and Licht, move on from Jameis

  42. Bobby M. Says:

Probably not popular but Bucs could even explore Kaepernick at this point….Bubble wrap Winston to avoid the $20 million he’s owed if he gets a severe injury. Play Fitz….explore Kaepernick, see if there’s an opportunity to bridge the transition. Fitz isn’t the long term answer but he might be good for another year. Kaep could be an option for 5+ yrs…or total garbage. The team has talent…if we don’t dedicate $20 million to the QB….we can stack the defense, possibly get a RB and simply have a game manager as a QB. As a fan, I want to watch us compete for the playoffs. Maybe we don’t get there every year but at least be in the mix. With Winston, its never going to happen.

  43. CharlieB Says:

If Koetter goes with Fitz and the team finishes over .500 then I think he’ll be fine. That should be Koetter’s one and only goal, get the team above .500. As Jameis played to close out last year and in preseason, starting him when Fitz started to struggle made sense. But Jameis has clearly regressed so it’s time to go with the insurance policy that’s getting the most out of our expensive receiving corps.

  44. CharlieB Says:

Kaepernick isn’t a good QB. I fully support his peaceful protesting, but he is not a good PRO QB and never was good. He was a good option QB when he was younger in a system built for the option. Koetter would need to retool his entire playbook.

  45. Cobraboy Says:

I understand links are not permitted here, but if you want to get a very REAL take on Winston, go to today’s ESPN’s “First Take” bit by Damian Woody.

    Factual…and devestating.

He offers this stat which is a jaw drop: yes, Blake Bortles has a few more turnovers than Winston since 2015 (77 vs. 71), but Winston has 529 LESS SNAPS than Bortles. Wow….

  46. Architek Says:

I always had a feeling that this day would come and now that it’s here it is really sad.

We drafted this kid to be our face and give us hope and sell tickets and he’s been great for the community certain situations but on the field he’s been VERY disappointing!

  47. Jerry Jones Says:

Dirk, your approach to the NFL as a HC is embarrassing.

Everyone is worried about starting all over with new coaches and personnel, just a clean sweep..well look at this SH!T SHOW. I would welcome new coaches and personnel at this point! I mean we’re clearly not SB ready by any means even with our offense and our RB situation is crap even though Barber looks like Barry Sanders compared to Rojo, so yes, bring in the new regime because I’d rather have a fresh start than having to deal with Koetter.

I’d keep Duffner and Buckner but the rest you can toss in the burn pile, yall failed.

  48. BrianBucs Says:

Winston just threw another pick from Publix!

  49. Ed Says:

Its not just throwing picks, its throwing picks in the red zone and throwing the ball directly to the other team. I think no matter what happens this season, if it comes down to the last 2 or 3 games, they should let Ryan Griffin see what he can do. He looked very poised and threw a nice ball in the exhibition games. Would like to see how he can handle the pressure of a real game. I really was impressed the way the ball came out quickly and was on the money. That’s all the Bucs need is a qb that is accurate and doesn’t make turnovers. Getting all these first downs and not scoring in the red zone has been a nagging issue with the offense. What I have been impressed with Fitz is his ability to time his throws whereas Jameis has to wait for the extra moment before the release, that tiny amount of time is all it takes for a defender to read his eyes and make the pick.
