“Let Him Solve His Problems Himself; He’ll Be Fine”

October 8th, 2026

Wags a finger at many in Tampa.

Fans want Todd Bowles fired because he’s been terribly ineffective. His leadership has failed as the Bucs have wildly underperformed for 11 months.

Bucs legend Rondé Barber says firing Bowles now is foolish and a common line from people that don’t know football.

“There’s a lot of vitriolic commentary out there in Tampa about Todd. I mean, it is what it is; these guys that don’t really know football and just want to get clicks and be explosively mad, “Barber said. “Like, c’mon dude, we’re watching football.

“… You’re not firing him now. First of all, I don’t know if there’s a coach on this roster … is there a coach on this roster that’s ready to assume that position [as interim coach]? Like you’re not going to hire from outside the building. So you tell me a coach on this roster that’s a riser that should be in position to take over for Todd right now.”

Barber’s comments came on The Rondé Barber Show on the WFLA streaming platform.

Social media silliness is how Barber describes comments that someone can step in for Bowles and flip the Bucs’ script and struggles.

“It doesn’t work like that,” Barber said. “No, you’re not firing a coach right now. Just let him solve his problems himself; he’ll be fine.”

Joe is disappointed in Barber’s comments. First, it’s insulting to many across the Bay area. But more important, it flies in the face of something Barber and seemingly everyone else collecting a check from One Buc Palace value greatly: leadership.

Allegedly, the Bucs value leadership to the extreme. Well, it’s clear Bowles’ leadership has failed. So are fans to believe nobody at One Buc Palace is capable of being a better leader of a football roster?

Joe has a hard time believing 46-year-old former linebacker Larry Foote, the eight-year Bucs defensive coach, couldn’t handle the media and internal communication duties of an interim head coach. He’s got the personality and likeability and credibility (13 years as a player). He’s also called the defensive signals in at least one preseason game.

Foote would be just fine as an interim face of the franchise. Joe thinks that statement is far more credible than Barber saying “Bowles will be fine.”

Fine fire Boweles when the Seasons over for the team. Take Licht and Robinson too.

  2. Bosch Says:

He’ll be fine? Ronde, please don’t do this to your credibility.

  3. John Sinclear Says:

Barber is right. Nobody qualified to take over is in-house, and there’s no big line of unemployed, qualified prospects out there. After the season, likely Coach will opt to retire (forced?) if things don’t turn around. I would get rid of Robinson now, after the Dallas game, and move somebody up.

  4. SteveK Says:

To me, this game is a really big one. Play competitive and try to get a “w” today or next week, OR, get completely waxed in a non-competitive way (zero pass rush/soft serve zone with 8 yard cushions) and we should see the HC get fired. The GM should also be looked at as a culprit too. Outside of TB12, the HC and GM are losers. You are what your record says you are.

  5. 808Bucsfan Says:

Bowles might be fine but the rest of the players may not be. Remember, the real reason ME13 left Tampa. Let’s hope no one else leaves because TB is still around

  6. MadMax Says:

Ronde, apparently you are a gatekeeper….so go ahead and insult everyone else’s intelligence…yeah, some here dont know football, but many of us do. And you want to know what I see? a tank…a soft tank, if you want to call it that…but a tank. and i get the strategy behind it, especially since Baker is hurt.

Its all good at this point. I kind of care and kind of dont….just knowing todd will finally be gone soon is what grabs at the little bit of care i have left!!

  7. Hodad Says:

Agree with Ronde, let him suffer with the rest of us. Sending him home with pay would be a reward. Besides, I’m curious as to how bad the final record under him will be. Zombie coach Bowles, can he go 0-17? I want to find out.

  8. Pops Malone Says:

Amen to Joe’s comments and MadMax right up there!!!

  9. SteveK Says:

Not firing a HC who’s lost the team and whose scheme is beyond tired just bc “we don’t have a replacement” is nothing more than cowardice. Firing a coach midseason already throws in the towel with hope to inspire change. But, continuing this sh!tshow would be football hell.

Also, a lot of HC candidates would refuse discussing coaching the Bucs until the job is actually open. So make it a possibility. Go Bucs!

Liam Coen should be here now. So stupid to not instantly promote him, pay him, and we’d be winning.

  10. jimmy Says:

ronde is the triumph the insult comic dog of one buc place. “hey ya what do you know you dont know football like me ruf ruf. i need to pee where is the nearest blogger”

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

Yeah, Ronde , your quote is an indictment of the whole problem. There is no one on this roster capable of coaching. Maybe Todd designed it that way

  12. BrianBucs Says:

You just always have to remember that Ronde is on the Bucs payroll and is a company man

  13. Chester Says:

I’m getting tired of Barber’s scatter-shot analysis. He’ll always be a playing legend, but he makes no sense with his takes. This team has rot in the foundation.

  14. Thomas Edrington Says:

One point Ronde made is very telling: If Bowles was gone, there’s no one qualified to even be an INTERIM coach, which speaks volumes as to HOW WEAK this coaching staff is…….no one would want to work for Bowles as even those in the biz know he’s a DEAD MAN WALKING>

  15. Citrus County Says:

So now Ronde comes out with an absolutely asinine statement so comical that surely nobody believes it. This points directly at ownership. Smart business people would have never let it get this far. The old saying ” If you have 2 quarterbacks you have none.” applies here. The Bucs have multiple Co-Chairmen. They are reactive not proactive.

  16. Ultra Clodhopper Says:

    Eat an entire bag, Ronde.

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Rondé was spot on, exactly what I’ve said,
Up to the “He’ll be fine”.
Well, Todd Bowles is a good person. He will be fine.
But after the last whistle of this long Season, he won’t be coaching the Bucs.

A new GM (Probably promoted internally) will give Bowles and his staff the bad news.
They might fire Robinson before the end of the Season. Promote Carberry.
But 90% Bowles will last to the last Wistle.
Hopefully, the Glazers fire Licht around week 15. They are probably getting intel from their resources on new GMs now. Hope they have him in place, to let Bowles go- and start searching for a New head coach.

We are very lucky. We have most of the key elements for a new Coach.
Pro Bowl QB. Running Back. Two very good tackle
A young pass rusher in Bain. Two excellent Cornerbacks. 2 very good safeties.
And what’s really gonna matter- some very high draft picks!

In two years, this can be a very good team again

  18. BucfaninOregon Says:

Go get someone off of Shanahan’s staff. Plug him in as OC. Promote anybody that can fog a mirror as HC. Find someone else to be DC. Anyone!!

Then play out this lost seasons. Maybe a diamond in the rough could be discovered.

How could 0-17 be worse than 0-5? At least we will be rid of what is obviously part of the problem. Fresh eyes are needed here.

  19. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

Fire Bowles and Barber. Fans wanted him gone long ago. He hates we were right.

  20. ocala Says:

It is called accountability. He is probably the worst head coach in the NFL.

  21. Itsbowlesfault Says:

Its not about who can take over… we arent winning anyway! At least get the rot out of the building and fans back at the stadium…

  22. LoveMyBucs Says:

Barber also ain’t wrong about football knowledge.

These guys know more football than most 99.9% of us have or will know.

That said, they’re not perfect, and not all are fit.

The personal comments and insults are just dumb

    > Will you be accountable to that claim? lol
You’re not close. But, show your research

  24. When is enough enough! Says:

How else do you set an example Ronde??? Oh just let him work it out??? He couldn’t work it out with the Jets he sucked as a DC even under Brady as majority of the games were shootouts. Bowles sucked as a player with the Redskins in the 80s. Enough with this ih he is a nice guy crap!!! People dont become fans, pay ticket prices, go to games and cheer for a team because this DEI hire crap is a nice guy!!! He sucks period always has and always will.

  25. LoveMyBucs Says:

Whoops I read that wrong Ocala.
I thought you said worst ever.

We all are entitled to our opinions

  26. Obvious Says:

Actually contrary to his view, many teams that make in season moves get a mini bounce for a few weeks. The new eyes do a few things differently and they tell the roster that it’s 0-0 start again.

I doubt it gets more than a couple wins but it does happen sometimes.

I’d prefer just to bomb out and get the first pick to set us up. You add a couple blue chipers to the roster and things turn around very quickly with the right management. That draft pick

Seeing Bowles get bounced early isn’t worth the draft pick to me

  27. Lakeland Says:

This is a backwards thinking fanbase

    Everyone knows this

  28. Gus Lopez Says:

Pretty insulting and disrespectful of fans to say that anybody calling for Bowles to be fired doesn’t know football. This season is DONE! Why not get a head start on next season and let a new coach evaluate this roster BEFORE the draft and trading begins. Maybe Ronde’s the one who talking nonsense?

  29. D-Rome Says:

Firing Bowles now does nothing. No team in the history of the NFL has had a miraculous turnaround after firing a coach mid season. Fans don’t pay money to see the coach.

This is the same coach who schemed a game plan to prevent the Chiefs from scoring a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Bowles may be part of the problem, but he isn’t *the* problem.

  30. August 1976 Buc Says:

Todd has a career losing record as a Head Coach. He is now a below average Head Coach with his current record.

And Barber says he will figure it out????????

Barber has lost credibility with his ARROGANT words.

Like does he really think Todd will be the Head Coach in 2027????

Hey, maybe wake up bud, the good ship Buccaneer has sailed on Bowles.

Since there will be a New Head Coach and possibly a New GM, what the heck are you thinking….

GO BUCS and Barber maybe just sit back and watch the horror show and shut up with your idiotic take on the current team.

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

    D ROME

The Chiefs missing both of their starting tackles, multiple dropped passes, and Andy Reid’s son maiming a child the week of the Super Bowl might’ve had something to do with it. It wasn’t all Bowles genius.

  32. Jeff Says:

Well that knocked a little luster off of the Ronde wagon for me. First, he needs to remember that the fans ultimately pay for the “kids game these athletes are blessed to be able to play. Obviously the coaching of Bowles is not working so of course people want him gone. He would’ve never been hired here had Uncle Brucie not laid a streaming one at the door of the Glazers. People do know football.. what an asinine statement. If the Bucs weren’t in the NFC Septic division id let him twist in the wind until January but 2 games back with 13 to play.. anyone could come in and do the job Bowles is doing/has done..

  33. Win in the Trenches Says:

The Glazers made a mistake by not releasing todd last year….

they only care about ticket sales and revenue,…

  34. Tony1775 Says:

Put Mick the special teams coach in, as interim head coach. He can just call everbody “bums.”

  35. Oldbucsfan Says:

    Bucs 28 – Dallas 10

  36. Lakeland Says:

These Bucs fans don’t pay for nothing
All they do is run their mouths yap, yap, yap, tap
There’s more visiting fans from across the country at Bucs games
Even the fans from the Bay area are not Bucs fans

That’s why the Glazers don’t take these fake Bucs fans serious

  37. Darin Says:

He wont be fine tonight ronde.

  38. Oldbucsfan Says:

You could throw anyone on the coaching in there right now and it would be better. What in the hell is the worry? No way can this get worse than it is now. The act of them at least trying to do something to break up what’s happening now would at least give us some kind of hope, and relieve us from this crap show we’ve been sitting through forever. Hell, if we’re gonna lose, let’s lose with another person in there; so sick of losing with this guy.

  39. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Firing Bowles now does nothing. No team in the history of the NFL has had a miraculous turnaround after firing a coach mid season. Fans don’t pay money to see the coach.”

The folly in that type of thinking, is that removing the HC is going to get players who actually determine the outcome of games are going to miraculously play better now that the figurehead is gone. The same logic some of you scoff at with Baker being out and some people expecting Daniels to be better, which doesn’t work out the way you’d think, right?

The hurt fans are the ones taking what Ronde is saying personally because they consume the 3rd party reporting from this podcast or that blog to shape their POVs and now all of a sudden, one of the best players in this franchises history and newly nominated HOFer doesn’t know what he’s talking about? LMAO

  40. Willie Says:

It’s unfortunate that this is what happens when your livelihood is involved. As much as Ronde is admired and respected(he should be), saying that Bowles will be fine is disappointing. Has he been watching the same things as the rest of us for all these years? How can anyone from simple fans like me, to professional NFL people have any confidence in this coach?

  41. Lakeland Says:

There’s no need to get upset because Ronde has a different opinion
Why attack him for his opinion?

That’s a childish way of thinking
    And it’s a child reaction

  42. CCHead Says:

Ronde says you don’t know football if you want to get rid of the head coach. Once again, a quote from an ignorant ex player that thinks just because you didn’t play professionally you should not have an opinion, and you don’t know what your talking about. Hey Ronde, eff off. I pay for tickets to go to the games and I know what i see. And that is a team that goes out on the field and has looked like dog spit since last October.

  43. Lessismore Says:

Thought Barber was pretty objectively honest in his assessment of the Bucs toward the end of last year and through weeks 1 and 2… and I’ve heard him say more than once that the defense needs to be simplified. That said, Todd has had years to figure things out – since Cooper Kupp and he just won’t or he can’t. Spending $$$$ on tickets doesn’t make me a football expert – more like a fool for thinking we have a shot to be a good competitive team.

  44. Day1-76 Says:

Lakeland’s Schizophrenia is kicking in again. One day
that person is railing the Buc’s coaching and players, and the next. out there leading the bandwagon, and ABUSING the fans because there are so many transplants in this area who have access to tickets too. Half of the “visiting” fans are probably Bucs fans when their home team isn’t in town.

  45. August 1976 Buc Says:

Ronde saying anything based on 2026 is a joke, Todd is history.

Who is thinking about this year. 0-5 happens tonight.

It is time for the transition to happen now.
This has nothing to do with winning anything this year.

It is about the trajectory of the team going forward and making decisions based on 2027 and beyond…..

I have watched since day one 1976, enough of settling for a losing Head Coach trying to right a ship that he will be thrown off of at the latest by Jan 2027.

Todd is a decent person, and the defense has played well, but so what, it is a lost cause to keep this Head Coach.

Time for Todd to be an assistant again if he stays coaching, but as a head coach, he is a loser. Todd is a good guy but a Bad head coach.

    GO BUCS

  46. Justin Says:

I agree with Barber. You can’t fire Bowles now. That ship sailed when the team didn’t fire him last year (and go throw a bucket of money at Kubiak). But you could fire Jason Licht for his mismanagement of this team and roster so you can have a new GM in place for hiring Bowles replacement at the end of the season.

  47. Lakeland Says:

There’s only one NFL HC that’s been fired after 5 games in the MODERN era
Jay Gruden was 0-5 and fired by Washington

But this pathetic fanbase wanted Bowles fired after one game this season

Like Ronde said…….They Don’t Know Football

  48. Eckwood Says:

Rhonda get your head outta your entitled Arsss !!
No president or CEO of an organization is given the leash to run a multi billion dollar company into the ground with terrible employee performance . The Glazers try so hard to follow the NFL protocol in the soft NFL entitlement agenda. The stockholders the fans are the ones that suffer so for Rhonda to even make that comment is just an absolute piss down the back of the fans and tell them it’s cool, it’s lemonade w aloe statement. You’re an entitled non-civilian Rhonda you really don’t have a clue to the real world and real life.Rhonda You only get one season a Year You Clown !! Todd has been more than Allowed. Absolute Clown !!

  49. firethecannons Says:

Glazers are too cheap to hire a decent coach. So it is easier to keep this loser as HC so count on yet another year of this. Licht probably gets a raise and a contract extension.

  50. Eckwood Says:

@ Lakeland that’s not an opinion!! That’s a stated delusional stance by a very entitled person that is out of touch with reality and the hard-working fan base.
opinion , nice Try !! Go Bucs !!

But this pathetic fanbase wanted Bowles fired after one game this season

Like Ronde said…….They Don’t Know Football

WE KNOW TODD is Gone by Jan. WE KNOW a different Coach is coming. So enough is enough of settling for crap. Start the process now. WE KNOW 2026 is in the garbage bin. Its time to go forward now.

  52. Hopes on 2027 Says:

Barber has such a gigantic ego. Plenty of people who “know football” think the coach should be fired and an interim replaced.

As you mentioned in the podcast, Larry Foote would be the perfect one to take over as interim coach + DC, and you are giving him a great opportunity.

    And I bet he’d play David Walker….

  53. Rob5 Says:

I get what Ronde is saying the point being what are
any of those coaches going to do…turn this thing around?
doubtful and even if they did a litte do you even want that
maybe finish 6/11 and miss out on really high draft picks?
we to really suck for a year and get premium picks…
the talent on this team is over rated..

  54. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

The fact that the Glazers gave Bowles an extension after routinely getting outcoached for the last several years shows us all we need to know. Too bad owners don’t get fired.

  55. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Bowles has been terrible for years now. I’m expecting the Cowboys to destroy the Bucs tonight, Bowles is especially terrible on prime time games.

  56. FireBowles58 Says:

Really not a smart commentary by Barber… this team is dead under Bowles reign… no spirit, no juice, no progress from draft picks etc., the list is too long of his shortcomings… maybe a little new juice and perspective would rally this team or at least show some freaking life…2-12 after tonight… it’s time

  57. FireBowles58 Says:

And yeah we’re not football experts but anyone can see that this team is regressing and checked out…

  58. garbs65 Says:

I get what Ronde is saying about not having anyone in-house to take over. I heard one or two other reports from outside local media that said the same thing. At this point, I’m fine with Bowles staying this season. I think I’m more upset with how Baker has been playing…man, he talked himself up big time and has done nothing but laid turds out there. The defense has been playing better which will go to the credit of Bowles. The offense? wow. sucky. Is there anything about the offense that is good? I like seeing Jalon Daniels out there. But like every other Buc fan, I’m waiting on some creativity on offense. Scheme our WR’s open. Something. But, I know that when the OL sucks, the offense can’t really do much.

  59. Stpetematt Says:

Skilled players who win their 1v1 matchups, make tackles, and get off of blocks or block successfully win football games. Coaches have a lot less to do with it than the players do. It’s on the players mostly to win.

    I agree with Barber 100%.

  60. Cardiac kidz Says:

This is a Glazer mess, pure and simple. Bowles had a good season coming off the Brady retirement. They failed to see that Wins came by way of Baker playing for his career and his teammates supporting that. They Extend Bowles with a 3 year deal, we flounder but win the division because everyone else sucked.
They had Liam Cohen in the house, they could have gone that way, but they already gave the extension and would acknowledge that they gaffed.
The following year no Liam, a rookie OC and we lost the division to a 8-9 record. What did the Glazers do ? They still couldn’t fire Bowles and acknowledge the gaff, so they fired all his assistant coaches and brought in either rookies or past cast-off assistants. Now they have noboby qualified for an interim coach.

It will be a very tough year to endure. The team needs a Offensive minded HC and an experienced offensive line coach.

  61. Birdie Says:

    Hire Mike Tomlin!

  62. Birdie Says:

    Fire Bowles now !

  63. Stpetematt Says:

Also, the fact the defense is quite a bit better after a defensive draft means we need more talent at several positions if we want to win often.

    Everyone knows this

I don’t think you can back that statement up, Lakeland. You act like anyone who doesn’t share your opinions is backwards. What makes you a better fan than everyone else?

In your arrogance you go on to say in a later post:
“ But this pathetic fanbase wanted Bowles fired after one game this season”

So, based on last season’s ending confidence polls, is it not fair to assume th E overwhelming majority of the fan base wanted him then. So after one game into the new season, a loss, you expect them to take a more favorable view? It is a simple case of they already wanted him fired and that hasn’t changed.

  68. TPearl Says:

Rondé is being politically correct. He is a Buccaneers icon and doesn’t want to see Todd, who he is and has been friends with for years, get the axe. I firmly believe Ronde’ knows, as we all do, that a major housecleaning is coming and I wouldn’t bee suprised to Ronde’ land a team President role like Matty Ice got with the Falcons. A new GM/HC duo is needed and I expect them to start jettison players for picks as this season is beyond lost already.

  69. Saskbucs Says:

Bowles has really mastered insulating himself from criticism and a pink slip while here in Tampa.

Kept a job 3 years longer than he should have and has hired no one under him that would be capable of taking over. Incredible stuff. “Complex D everyone, no one can keep this running but me!”

If it’s development and lighting a fire under guys that we are worried about, why couldn’t you hire from outside?

Players, you put yourselves in this position. You all love Bowles but you are 0-4. The next 3 weeks are gonna be a grind! New installs, homework every night, living in the film room and putting in extra practice.

So you lose 2-3 more games trying to put it all together. What’s the big deal in a lost season? Then you know if the interim has the jam to stick for future years. I’d swing at a guy for those reasons.

I also wouldn’t do any of this cause a new guy would prolly win 6 games and ruin the draft position. Brutal place to be.

  70. Buc1987 Says:

  71. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

  72. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

Bowles needs to get clipped. It’s just that simple. He’s outlived his worth in Tampa.

Barber is too close to the flame to be taken seriously. A made man keeps his true feelings to himself.

At some point Todd will reap the whirlwind from which he created.

After tonight we will only have to listen to him for three more long months at most.

Empty seats at home could move that execution date sooner.

  73. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Fire Bowles now!! It doesn’t matter who steps in as a replacement. Anyone will be an improvement over the current game planning, game management and lack of vision to see when and what adjustments are needed during a game. Stubbornness is the true fault with this team. Thinking a bad plan will somehow start working if “we just coach it better.” 13 straight terrible games. Come on!! Play to win instead of playing not to lose.

  74. TombsEN Says:

Just because you watch football doesn’t mean you know football. If that was the case there would be a lot of coaches in here. It’s quite annoying that people who watch think they know more than the people that get paid to do this, it’s not Madden. Just because you watch Law and Order doesn’t mean you can be an effective detective lol. Stop protecting these fragile feelings on this board.

  75. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Bowles should be fired after this game, if it goes like I think it will, to show that incompetence is no longer acceptable. Will he be? No, the Bucs are an incompetent franchise, starting with the owners.

  76. Boltsfan17 Says:

Barber is in with the team, of course he is going to grab his pom-poms. He knows the team is playing like crap and it falls on Bowles and Licht. Licht gave a below average TE 10 mill a year. Not to mention paid Baker when he didnt have too. No the new coaching staff has to deal with this pile of crap. The Glazers should have fired Bowles last year.

  84. Larrd Says:

Bowles built such a poor coaching staff he cannot be fired because the coordinator and assistants are so inept, sounds like.

    That’s genius!

  85. BakerFan Says:

So the people that know football are supporting a 2-12 slide, think I will try to listen to the people who don’t know football, they make more sense Ronde.

Bowles should be fired immediately after tonight’s loss

  86. BakerFan Says:

BTW…. Licht should be gone at season end also.

Were down to keeping Jason right now

Ee Clancy Burton Alex Blaine and Chris all scoring zeroes are ending Jason’s successful run.

That says it all, Larrd. Now I need a beer…..

  89. Bucs4Ever Says:

DO you think this is just a bunch of nonsense and Ronde will be the new GM?

OF course the GM, HC and OC have to go, barring a miracle?

Oh: Baker Mayfield is a con man.

Barber would do well to not talk down to his audience.

Given that Bucs fans have generally been disenchanted with Bowles since the end of the ’24 season, and that the team’s record has deteriorated to it’s lowest level in a long time, the sooner the owners move on from Bowles, the better. Stop torturing the fans!

The opportunity to move forward with temporary “interim” coaching would snap the players awake and that would move them to re-embrace their performance accountabilities. Shaking things up would be a good thing right now.

Again, acknowledging the “interim” nature of coaching assignments, if it were me I’d can Todd, name the defensive coaching “next guy up” as DC, and name Robinson as interim HC.

Sound ridiculous? Not really when you frame the Bucs in their current totality. I’m not convinced that Bowles hasn’t been screwing with our offense since Coen beat it to Jacksonville. Offensively, I would like to see how we would do with either Robinson or Grizzard, sans Bowles. Defensively — we could hardly do much worse with schemes that totally lay performance in the players laps.

He also low key blamed fans after saying he wasn’t blaming fans this week. Saying fans don’t support the team. Kinda a stretch my guy.
