“Look How Happy (Chris) Godwin Is About The Block”

January 18th, 2024

“Aw, he’s awesome.”

Now Joe isn’t sure how many snaps Bucs receiver Chris Godwin had at slot receiver Monday night. Joe does know that when the Bucs open up the offense and Godwin plays in the slot, this offense is damn hard to slow down.

When Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians came to town the first thing he did was make Godwin primarily a slot receiver. Arians had a history of making or extending top-shelf receivers’ careers by flipping them there.

Arians did this for Hines Ward in Pittsburgh and Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona.

Godwin absolutely thrived under Arians. One reason was Arians saw what a tough player and willing blocker Godwin is.

So check out the video below. Former Bucs offensive lineman, coach and Godwin’s former teammate, A.Q. Shipley, was on”The Pat McAfee Show” yesterday. Shipley joins his good friend McAfee sometimes to talk offensive line issues.

Yesterday, Shipley highlighted a terrific play/block by Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs. But what stuck out for Joe was how Godwin manhandled an Eagles cornerback.

Godwin’s block also caught McAfee’s eye.

“Look how happy Godwin is about the block,” McAfee said. Sure enough, Godwin’s block sprung Rachaad White open for a first down run. Godwin pumped a fist and danced.

“Godwin, aw, he’s awesome,” Shipley said. “He’s awesome in the run game. He’s great in the screen game. Boom, and then you get a huge 10-15 yards.”

Godwin is a dynamite player, that’s all.

With Godwin, when you put him in the slot and get him active in the pass game early, this Bucs offense hums.

Godwin actually showed up to play. Finally. He did much better this game, at least from the parts I was able to watch.

Godwin showed up all year, Bonzaii David, Jr.

    Ridiculous comment.

Bucs should go off on Sunday! The lions pass defense is worse than the Eagles!!

Was that Godwin blocking downfield for Moore’s long TD? Whoever it was helped make the play.

I just checked. Evans made the block. He knocked 22 back and he couldn’t make the tackle.

ME13 is an elite HOF (future) receiver built like a TE. He’s never been shy about mixing it up. Many of the OPIs the refs called on him were the usual BS on the Bucs. Godzilla14 has been both mentored and is friends with him. Blocking? Working in the slot? No problem. These two are gonna be ready Sunday. You hear that, Canales? You’ve got a boatload of receivers. Use them!! Free up this pair. Those two get loose, Lions will have big problems.

Eagles did a fine job of not tackling even when not blocked.
