The last time the Bucs faced Kirk Cousins on the road, he stopped on his way to the post-game locker room and bellowed to the assembled media:
“You like that?” Cousins crowed. The Bucs were not amused on that shocking afternoon in 2015.
Cousins had just led Washington back from a 24-0 deficit, throwing for three second-half touchdowns in an improbable 31-30 triumph. Tampa Bay was 2-3 and coming off a bye week when Cousins found tight end Jordan Reed from six yards out for the winning score with only 24 seconds remaining.
It was Reed’s 11th catch of the day as Lovie Smith’s Bucs self-destructed with 16 penalties. (more…)

Antoine Winfield knows how to wrap up.
It’s hard to get over on a smart guy like Bucs Pro Bowl safety Antoine Winfield. But back in training camp, Joe found something. (more…)

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.
Former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was a huge believer in “explosive plays.” He talked about it often. (more…)

Popularity already building.
Yeah, Joe doesn’t want to get ahead of his proverbial skis here, but before the man has played a snap in the NFL, Bucs right guard Cody Mauch already has quite a few fans. (more…)
Joe laughs at Peter King and others who think the Falcons are going to roll to a division title this season. (more…)

Lots of Tampa Bay fans throw darts and flash middle fingers at one of the team’s esteemed and candid local critics. (more…)

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett.
Prediction season is in full force and Joe is a little perturbed and uplifted by one in particular. (more…)

Cornerback Carlton Davis.
Joe is starting to think if Carlton Davis has a monster year, so too could the Bucs. (more…)

Week 1 starter.
Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield has been around the NFL block a few times. In a big-picture view, that’s not always a good thing for the 28-year old Bucs signal-caller. (more…)

Jason Licht type.
Maybe it is a good thing Bucs Hall of Famer Rondé Barber and Jason Licht are such good friends. Joe doesn’t think too many of the Bucs’ pen and mic club would get away with sternly directing the AC/DC-loving general manager to be straight with him (or her) on a live broadcast. (more…)

The Vikings, the Bucs’ opening day opponent, probably set or tied an NFL record last season by being outscored yet finishing 13-4.
It’s a mindblowing stat. (more…)

Rookie first-round pick Calijah Kancey.
Cuts are in! The Buccaneers’ 53-man roster is set, including 13 rookies! At least for today. There’s still lots of time for Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht to make additions and subtractions.
Licht said he expected to do just that while on the Buccaneers Radio Network before Saturday night’s kickoff.
Keep in mind the No. 3 quarterback rules have changed, so the Bucs can use John Wolford as an emergency guy without burning a roster spot.

Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin.
Add a few retired NFL greats to those who believe Baker Mayfield has it in him to lead the Bucs successfully this season. (more…)
