Cody Mauch Already A Popular Guy

August 31st, 2023

Popularity already building.

Yeah, Joe doesn’t want to get ahead of his proverbial skis here, but before the man has played a snap in the NFL, Bucs right guard Cody Mauch already has quite a few fans.

Even though he went to a small school, North Dakota State, he had played on BSPN several times and hardcore football fans knew his playing-to-the-echo-of-the-whistle ways, his celebrating first downs, his mane of red hair and, of course, his dental features (or missing teeth).

Mauch also has a man with a high-profile television gig in his back pocket.

None other than Peter Schrager of NFL Network seems to be all in on the Mauch hype train. This week a sports apparel retailer on Twitter asked if one could only wear the uniform of an offensive lineman, what jersey would they buy.

Schrager retweeted the post and only had a graphic as his comment: a creamsicle Mauch jersey.

Joe has called Schrager a closet Bucs fan for years. He always finds a way to work in Bucs talk on his “Good Morning Football” show seen weekday mornings on NFL Network.

Joe has written that many times and Joe knows Schrager is no stranger to this site. Joe crosses paths with Schrager at NFL events and he has never scolded Joe for claiming Schrager is a closet Bucs fan.

Wanting a Mauch jersey seems to bolster that notion.

The cool thing about Mauch and the Bucs? It seems the Bucs often have a couple of offensive linemen who are very popular with fans. It’s not like that with all teams.

Who is a more popular Bucs player than Tristan Wirfs (outside of Mike Evans and maybe Chris Godwin or Lavonte David)? Ryan Jensen may have been the very first offensive lineman Joe saw receive a standing ovation from fans at The Licht House. In a playoff game no less!

Joe also knows Ali Marpet got quite a bit of run for his popularity.

So it seems Mauch is next on the list of popular Bucs offensive linemen.

it seem like we bucs fans have a lot of affection for our o-linemen…

cody rockin’ the ginger x toothless look can actually catch on and make him a well known guy league wide…

the question is can he become receiver eligible and catch a pass…

    does he have hands…???

i wanna see him catch a touchdown in minnesota πŸ™‚

    Marpet/Jensen combo.

It is hard not to pull for Mauch. Peter Schrager has good solid takes, he is a heckuva lot better than almost all of the talking heads at BSPN and across the national media.

  5. SB Says:

    What Bonzai said hopefully!

When I first moved to Tampa Bay in 1990, the Bucs didn’t have a great team. I would imagine you then start pulling for individual players a bit more. Can you find anyone who can say anything bad about Paul Gruber? Hell, I even loved Tony Mayberry. Right now I’d have to roll with Wirfs, with Mauch a close 2nd.

I just hope the guy is good. Let’s face plant Cam Jordan and pancake HIM.
Then he will be my favorite.

How can I not buy his Jersey. I mean I’ll get the wife one as well. That way if I’m walking on my hands it’s still the same number… GO BUCS!

I know the season hasn’t started yet and we are going to have our growing pains this year. I’d like to see a reshuffle of this offensive line next year. If we don’t get the QB we want in the 1st round, I think we should take the best LT or RT available at our spot in the 1st round. If it’s a LT, then move Wirfs back to RT and slide Goedeke to RG. I suggest moving Mauch to LG (unless Fieler has a very productive year) since it’s his natural side. Haisney can play C. That feels like a better long term offensive line positional setup.

Nut case Antonio Brown (no jersey needed) is the Bucs #1 seller. More guys go shirtless than ever wore Brady jerseys.
