SuperBook Shot-Caller Claims Tom Brady/NFL Insider Hustled Them

March 16th, 2022

Betting insiders at play?

Shady dealings and corruption are woven into the very fabric of Las Vegas. And it seems that may have been in play at the world-famous Westgate SuperBook in relation to Tom Brady last week, says its director.

Friend of Ira Kaufman, Jay Kornegay, the shot-caller of the WestGate Superbook, the best sportsbook in Vegas (sorry Circa, the SuperBook is smokefree — advantage: SuperBook), claims a sharp bettor (meaning a guy who drops a lot of dough) bet heavily on the Bucs to win the Super Bowl last Thursday. When the Bucs’ odds later fell, the same sharp dropped another load on Tampa Bay.

Kornegay, by way of Todd Dewey of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, said that smells like someone who had inside knowledge of Brady’s pending decision.

Tampa Bay was a 60-1 long shot at the SuperBook on Thursday to win the 2023 Super Bowl and 30-1 to win the NFC when a sharp bettor wagered on the Bucs to win the conference and NFL titles. After the book lowered them to 25-1 to win it all, the bettor wagered on them again.

“There’s not a doubt in my mind that they knew he was coming back when they placed those wagers on Thursday,” Kornegay said. “And these were not casual bettors. They would be categorized as educated bettors. It wasn’t a guy with a Tom Brady jersey at the counter. It was a player that we would describe as sharp. With that type of play and the announcement we heard (Sunday) that he was unretiring, there was information that was shared prior to his official announcement.

“There is no doubt in my mind that information leaked sometime in the middle of last week. This is concerning. I don’t think I’ve ever said the NFL really needs to investigate something. But this is something they need to look into and how it got out, because there are many books that took some sizable wagers in the middle of last week.”

In other words, the SuperBook was had. So too was another book in Vegas, the South Point, where three “big money” bets were placed last week at long odds for the Bucs to win the Super Bowl.

“If it was Jameis Winston at quarterback, we wouldn’t have a problem with it,” Kornegay said. “But when it’s Tom Brady you have a six-figure liability with, we’re certainly not comfortable with it. That’s a biggie. It’s not about a player being in or out of a game tonight. You’re talking about the best quarterback of all time playing or not playing.”

So basically, at least two sportsbooks in Vegas are on the hook for a ton of cash if the Bucs win it all.

Still, Kornegay isn’t sold the Bucs will win the Super Bowl. He noted that the potential to lose several more free agents and a rough 2022 schedule will make winning the Super Bowl a steeper climb for the Bucs than last year.

Joe finds this funny as can be. If a sportsbook takes you to the cleaners, that’s considered business as usual. If someone gets an edge on a sportsbook, that’s considered a scandal. Fellas, consider this the cost of doing business.

Joe’s going to guess if the Bucs win the Super Bowl in February, whoever tries to cash those tickets will be tailed by the feds.

I read about this, they will never prove it.

  2. Howard Cosell Says:

LOL Only the Living Legend himself could pull a GameStop on the asinine “superbooks”.
    Bradys legend continues to grow.
    We are so, so lucky.

We are guaranteed one more year of thrilling Bucs football

  3. Tye Says:

If Winston were QB, there wouldn’t be a chance to win the NFC South title, much less the NFC or SB!

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard is sure it’s not intentional. Brady has much bigger fish to fry than worrying about petty betting practices. Funny the way the fat pigs cry when their trough gets upended.

    Gamestop!!!

  5. Howard Cosell Says:

The wallstreet fat pigs literally paid to have the rules of trading changed to avoid any future competition from regular people after gamestop

  6. cmurda Says:

A few interesting points from the story.

    1) Agree with Joe’s ending to the story. Poor wittle sportsbooks. Get got for a change and throwing a fit.

    2) I like how Kornegay isn’t sold the Bucs will win the SB. Duh. There are 31 other teams tying to win the SB. Well, Detroit and Cleveland still exist so let’s call it 29 other teams.

    3) His name is Kornegay? Oooof

  7. Dapostman Says:

The Stupidbook shouldn’t have had the wager up to begin with because even Brady said a month before “never say never.”

If you offer a wager oh well. It’s a bet.

  8. Navfree17 Says:

Hold up! The NFL legalized gambling and are surprised? That’s rich. Joe, you are spot on my friend.

  9. Navfree17 Says:

I mean. Just can’t be a player. Just curious. Owners never had a friendly bet amongst themselves? Whose to say?

  10. Your Mom Says:

Wow I’m so glad the NFL is adding gambling to the mix… so fun!

  11. Weston Says:

That’s why you don’t legalize gambling and whine about insider boo hoo haha

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Saw this story the other day. Only issue is that the ‘big-time’ bets are $10k — pretty sure Brady isn’t even going to autograph an advoco for that little amount of money.

  13. westernbuc Says:

Joe, if I can’t smoke cigarettes while gambling on sports then what’s the point?

  14. lambchop Says:

I read about this. Vegas wins a lot, and loses some of the times. Consider it one of those times.

You can’t prove insider knowledge. So, have fun with that. Some bloke could have thought, there is no way Brady stays retired and he’s not starting all over with a new team, coach, playbook at 44.

Take the L and cry me a river.

  15. Leopold Stotch/BuccaneerButters Says:

Sounds like the guy is trying really hard to get some investigation so they don’t have to potentially lose out on money. If the bettor is “educated” as he said, based on how wishy washy Brady seemingly was, then it sounds like he made an educated guess. I don’t feel bad for these big businesses. It’s not like several people all at once hopped on the bandwagon and bet on our beloved Bucs. So he can cry to his buddies in the industry, no one other than those guys care.

  16. J Dubb Says:

The bettor may not have known Brady was coming back but was maybe instead thinking we were going to get Deshaun Watson. Regardless, I hope they win.

  17. richardtyson Says:

Anyone check in with Calvin Ridley?

  18. SOEbuc Says:

Like the Bucs haven’t been talking to Brady since the end of last. Ronaldo They’ve done nothing illegal, right??? I wouldn’t try to go against the Glazers lawyers.

  19. steele Says:

Everyone pretty much assumes Gronk is back. But 3/16 is here, and he hasn’t decided, and he continues to talk up the Bengals. Will he go to Cincy?

If Gronk does the betrayal, we got problems. Impossible to replace his receiving and blocking. You’d need a combination of guys. Gerald Everett, Hayden Hurst, Maxx Williams if healthy. It would become more urgent to keep Brate. OJ should go in any case.

  20. SOEbuc Says:

*Ronaldo didn’t get him to come back Saturday prior.

  21. FortMyersDave Says:

So the house changes the numbers on a few NYJ/NYG/Dallas and other big market futures and selected lines in the next season (which are always overvalued due to the homer fans and the bias by the big market media) and they still make a killing. Vegas just got upset because their wiseguys got taken in like Florio and Pioli!

  22. ModHairKen Says:

So what? Is it wrong to have inside information and make a bet? Show me the law that says you can’t. Show me the law that says the sportsbook oddsmaker can’t do research and talk to people before setting the odds.

This isn’t Wall Street. It’s gambling. Besides, the timing, alone, shows nothing other than someone made a gamble, took a chance. If Brady was going to come back, it made perfect sense he would announce it right before Free Agency began.

What, are we supposed to feel sorry for the House? Get the hell out of here.

  23. Bucsfanman Says:

With all their “philanthropy”, I almost feel bad for those Vegas sportsbooks. Not.

  24. SufferingSince76 Says:

This story is pretty rich. Vegas complaining about getting taken. 🤣

  25. Hodad Says:

So are we supposed to feel sorry for superbook? Considering how many people have bankrupted themselves by gambling, it would be sweet to see superbook lose some cash.

  26. PassingThru Says:

The sportsbooks usually have the edge when it comes to information, and they have the best software and sharpest odds-makers. They’re in the business to make money, not to give betters any advantage. They’re also not marketmakers, they take positions in an effort to extract hard-earned money from amateurs, addicts, and rubes. My heart isn’t bleeding for them when they lose at the inside information game.

Want to try preventing it from happening? Have the SEC regulate betting. Oh wait, no one wants that. So STFU SuperBook.

  27. Goatfarmer Says:

My heart bleeds for the poor sports book. Not.

  28. David Says:

😂 oh well. Maybe they shouldn’t put their odds out until after the free agency frenzy and possibly the draft.

  29. View from 132 Says:

Winston gets randomly insulted by oddsmaker.

  30. unbelievable Says:

Oh boo hoo to the poor sports books lol.

They’re crying b/c they might for once not have the odds stacked in their favor.

  31. Irishmist Says:

Someone made Brady an offer he couldn’t refuse.
