Keep this in mind when you think about whether the Bucs will bring back Leonard “Lombardi Lenny” Fournette in free agency after this season.
A check recipient from Team Glazer for his game-analyst work on the Buccaneers Radio Network, retired tight end Dave Moore has access to information no media type will ever get his hands on. And Moore is no blubbering attention-seeker. He’s an Xs and Os guy who also runs his own insurance agency in St. Pete.
Moore was a guest this week on 550 AM radio in Buffalo and was asked about Lombardi Lenny as the Bucs prepare to play the Bills on Sunday at The Licht House. Moore credited Fournette for working himself into all aspects of the third-down role, and that includes regular private sessions with Tom Brady.
“Fournette, after practice from last year to this year does kind of a 1-on-1 session with Tom Brady and catches a ton of balls,” Moore said.
Joe had heard of the running backs joining Brady for post-practice work, but Joe had not heard of regular 1-on-1 work between Brady and Fournette.
Joe can’t imagine Brady investing all that time and tutoring and then not barking to the front office to keep Lombardi Lenny so they can build on success. The Bucs’ bellcow back is still just 26 years old.

I believe that a lot of people questioned Lenny. Said Rojo was a better back, called him a “cancer”.
I think Lenny has more than answered the call. He’s putting in the work and frankly, I think the Bucs should retain him.
Rojo has trended exactly opposite, showing timidity and hesitation. Not ideal characteristics for a RB.

Godwin, Jensen, Cappa and Gronk are higher priorities- the Brady/Fournette connection, as good as it is, doesn’t work without the OLine dominance.

Used to be a Rojo supporter, but I’m getting serious Josh Freeman vibes off the guy now.

Rojo is a to top ten back, just needs to be in a system where he isn’t expected to catch the ball much. Derrick Henry hardly ever does that, for instance. Probably best that he isn’t expected to block either

Actually I do not think Rojo is a top 50 back in the NFL. Comparing Rojo to Derrick Henry is absurd.
Rojo’s toughness is fine and his speed is good (better than Lenny’s at this point) but his football IQ is well below average. Maybe he is top 20 as a rusher but if you can not catch and pass block, how good are you?
In his 25 year old age, David Johnson was with this same coaching system and rushed for 1239 rushing yards and had 80 catches for 879 more yards. It can be done with this coaching system.

I agree with your thought. Both Rojo and Freeman had some natural talent. Football IQ and EQ seem below average.

I think Lenny is playing great but I think without Brady he might slip back to his old ways…… attitude problems.
Keep him as long as TB is here.

Fournette doesn’t break as many tackles and isn’t as dynamic as some of you think. Watch his highlights from this season and compare them with the guy from last season…. no contest. No knock on Fournette but Rojo is a far better runner and far harder to tackle. Fournette falls forward… and usually that’s what he does is fall, he stops his legs at contact and falls. Above average runner at best.

4Net has been great. Humbled coming in. Sees an opportunity and goes all in on being the best he can be. Now he’s a leader in the locker room and on the field. He’s an awesome story.
Rojo is done. OJ is done. Sapp would tell you, “Look like tarzan play like jane.” They’ll never be anything on any team. They’ll be out of the league after a few vet min contracts. Only value now are comp picks.

Lenny has developed into the kind of back Brady loves. He runs the ball like a mad man trying to run over whoever he can, he is very good in blitz pickup and the most important thing is he is where he is supposed to be on check downs and he catches the ball. If he stays healthy he could have over 100 receptions by the end of the season and 1000 yards rushing. That’s rarified air for a running back in this day of constantly changing running backs during the game to keep them fresh. To me he is almost or is equally as valuable as Gronk and A.B. as a free agent pickup.

Brandon – Lenny doesn’t break as many tackles as RoJo ??? Have you not watched the last 8 game’s ?? It takes 3 or more to bring him down ! And your right , he does fall FORWARD , NOT BACKWARDS like RoJo when he gets stuffed at the line !! GO BUCS

Yah Brandon. Lenny rarely gets stopped by the first guy to hit him. He keeps driving with guys hanging on and gets a lot of first downs after being hit by powering thru. I used to think he was a dud but the dude is a stud.

Cudos to Lenny, busting his arse to stay relevant and it’s paying off. Out of all the players, Bradys presence has influenced Lenny more than the others.

It’s paying off. If he were playing this good on 3rd down last year, Gio wouldnt even be here.
