Effort

December 6th, 2021

You hear coaches talk about effort all the time. It’s such a big deal.

Effort can turn a blah play into a scoring play. It can save a game (Mike Edwards’ tackle on a kickoff return at Indianapolis, for example).

Wade Phillips used to say effort was what separated the good players from the elite. Effort, simply put, can win or lose a game.

Joe brings this up because of a video posted on Twitter of foot-rubbing, car-littering film guru Rob Gronkowski. He’s lined up tight to Tristan Wirfs off right tackle. It’s a nothing play, a pass to Chris Godwin to the right side that maybe got two yards.

Godwin, however, likely would have been wiped out for a loss if Gronk didn’t bust his tail and take out the would-be tackler. Effort.

No, the play didn’t amount to much, but without Gronk hustling and busting his arse, Godwin at least had a chance to bust it.

The dude has how many rings and how much cash and how hot of a girlfriend?

Gronk could easily be living the soft life, yet he’s still busting like a cheap rookie.

Gronk is a baller, that’s all there is to it.

Thank you, Tom Brady!

Gronky Kong looks like a superhero cartoon character

  2. Leighroy Says:

Rings, cash and skirts don’t compare to lighting up another NFL caliber athlete for Gronk. To quote seemingly all TV analysts ever, “he’s just a football player!”

    The Best Ever.

Gronk is in the Guiness Book of World Records!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. PassingThru Says:

Did anyone watch the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game? That Lamar Jackson pass on the two-point conversion was poor, but I’m pretty sure Gronk would have been able to handle it. Gronk is the bigger target and has a larger catch radius than Mark Andrews.

You gotta love The Gronk…he had no reason to unretire…until Brady and The Bucs came calling. Lost in so much of the hoopla is that Licht traded a 4th for the rights to Gronk ( a judo move that the Pats pulled on the Bucs a number of times ). Since then…Billy B. Paid a pile of money for two inferior TEs and drafted another pretty high.

Gronk has far exceeded my expectations. What a player. He’s absolutely tough as nails and so clutch. He had a couple ugly drops yesterday but you just knew Brady was still going to go to him. He looks stronger and faster than last season and has brought an element to this offense that no one else could have. These are great times to be a Bucs fan!

The guy had 5 fractured rids and a collapsed lung a month ago. That defender disappeared under Gronk. The man loves his teammates and runs through a wall for them. Doubtful you’ll get that from OJ. Should be fun in the film room this week when they replay that.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

BigPoppa- Agreed! When he’s on the other sideline, you don’t appreciate him as much. Seeing it first-hand?! Generational talent.

Truly the difference between swag & swaggy

  11. Captain Oblivious Says:

Yeah, but didn’t Gronk slide before a tackle yesterday to avoid contact/s?

  12. Capece is Kaput Says:

Speaking of effort. Anyone notice that Rojo went missing right after he caught that pass from Brady and instead of turning up field to gain a few yards he proceeded to just run straight out of bounds and gain absolutely zero yards. That was the end of his day. 2 total snaps on offense. I can’t remember it 100% but it seemed one of our O-Lineman was po’d and Brady was also at Jones. None of this looks good for Jone’s future.
Lenny is fighting like a wildman out there whereas Jones seems to be busy fighting some demons in his head.

  13. Sparky Says:

    @Captain Oblivious

Yes, when we were up two scores, trying to run the clock out and he already had the first down. Absolutely no reason to look for contact on that play.

  14. Capece is Kaput Says:

    @Sparky
I kind of thought the same thing as the Captain…kind of a very un-gronk type of move by him, but you are right. My prevailing thoughts throughout most of that game was…run the clock and get this game over with… without anyone getting hurt. Unfortunately some guys got hurt at the end.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

Capece- Rojo is proving that he’s not a fit here in TB. On both touches he went sideways and looked to avoid contact. Not a good look.

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

Yes, I thought the same thing about the slide–and so did BA. But, when I heard Gronk explain it in the conference it made a bunch of sense. He thought about it and now I believe the slide was the exact right move. 😀

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

Gronk is a old school type of player and I love watching him play. I always liked Gronk because he remind me of the old days of football.

  18. Buczilla Says:

I’m happy for Gronk and I’m happy for us too. No better time to be a Bucs fan. 😋😋
