Donovan Smith Opens Up About Virus Concerns

August 18th, 2020

Yes, Donovan Smith drew the rage of the social media haters and others when about six weeks ago he told the world via Instagram that he didn’t like the idea of playing football with a new baby on the way.

It was clear then that the Bucs’ big-money left tackle was considering sitting out the season via the NFL’s opt-out option for those with health issues or just fearful of The Sickness.

Smith, however, is playing.

At a news conference today with Joe and other media types online, Smith explained that his initial and primary concern was not having a place to live if there was a virus outbreak. Staying home, in that scenario, would not be an option.

Smith said he approves of various measures the Bucs are taking to keep players safe, including the option for them to live at a team hotel in relatively secure surroundings.

Smith is living at home with his new daughter and family, he said, but knowing he has options, combined with all the safety measures in place, have him feeling good about staying healthy.

Of course, a cynic might bark that Smith could have just rented a condo near the stadium for, say, $2,000 a month through the football season as a precaution. But Joe can’t fault the guy for having reservations during a pandemic.

But why should he have to spend his dime to stay safe? I’m glad the team gave them hotel options instead. If he had sat out, I couldn’t blame him. Being healthy and available for your children is more important than football.

Man the Bucs have had long enough with this clown. The guy is lazy and just aveamge, get rid of him now for the draft pick you can and get a one year gap player and draft the future left talke number one overall next year.

  3. Mike in LOL Says:

Nick we are talking about all in on winning the SB this year and you’re over there talking about number 1 pick overall in next years draft?? Those two things can’t exist together yaknow

  4. Mort Says:

I’m sure he is so excited you’re trying to give away $12,000 so he can get a separate theoretical rent house for six months “just in case” and not have his employer take care of it. What are you talking about? Joe simply gave an example. And 12 grand to a guy making what Smith earns is nothing. Joe has never written that Smith (or any player) shouldn’t have concerns.–Joe

    cheapskate

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

With millions of dollars at least in his bank account, what does he mean by no place to stay….what a joke. He probably just needs to keep his mouth shut.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Because a guy has concern for his and his families health that makes him lazy? I thought America was the land of the free/ or is that just for some? I applaud Smith speaking out for his concerns about the virus. God bless him.

  8. All lives matter Says:

The dude was a lazy tackle before the virus

  9. Ftmyersbuc Says:

I mean I feel his heart isn’t always 100% in the game. For example when he’s facing a jj watt pr other big name edge rusher, he shows up in those games quite well, his whiffs and bad games always seem to come against lesser talent. He definitely takes “plays off” against lesser players. I cannot honestly fault him 100% either because I know for a fact it’s disheartening playing for a qb who consistently wipes out your hard work you’ve put in. I can say if Tom Brady didn’t come here, i truly think Smith would have opted out.

    @Mike Johnson:
Great takes, except for the last one.

There is no god. Look it up.

Your post is simply three words too long. Prior to those three words, you had a great thing going. Just like in real life, religion is superfluous.

When people say “god bless him” or “bless you” or “have a blessed day” they are letting you know that they are severely deluded, and delusions are bad for everyone, not just for the person having the delusion, because those individuals who are not deluded are forced to navigate these nonsensical beliefs in such a way so as to not incur the wrath, either physical or psychological, or both, of the deluded person.

Seems patently unfair, does it not?

No offense Joe but I’d say 50% of the outrage was manufactured by you writing article after article after article about it, lol
