Unfair Characterization

May 20th, 2020

Often worked out.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Some Bucs, led by park-violating, home-invading quarterback Tom Brady, were caught by paparazzi working out yesterday.

For those who don’t think this is news, guess these same folks have no understanding of the current state of the world we are living in.

Besides, what Bucs fan didn’t get a bit of a rise seeing Brady wearing a Bucs helmet?

Just seeing Brady wearing a Tampa Bay practice jersey and a helmet made Joe think of training camp. Joe could smell the sweat of Bucs cheerleaders.

So of course, Brady and the Bucs were all over the news (again) yesterday and this morning as well. Joe was told even the BBC ran stories about Brady working out and emphasizing this was all legal by NFL guidelines.

(For those unaware, the BBC is England’s version of NBC or CBS. As in international.)

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network had a report on the workout and Joe thinks he mischaracterized Bucs players. You can see the report below but Joe thought it made Brady’s teammates seem lazy. The report was, boy, Brady is the new sheriff in town and players know they need to work out now, or else!

Well first, we live in odd times. NFL players know since their offseason OTAs and minicamp have been wiped out, they need to work out. Ryan Jensen said this on a podcast that Joe is using excerpts from.

And second, the insinuation that the Bucs didn’t work out on their own is below-the-belt. Shoot, Bucs players were fixtures at a Tampa city football field working out on their own in years past.

Besides, how often were Mike Evans and other Bucs working out at Texas A&M? Hell, even America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, got malcontent DeSean Jackson to work out with him and other Bucs up at Florida State one summer.

So this notion that Bucs players didn’t work out unless forced to at One Buc Palace and that things have changed with Brady in town just isn’t fair in any way, shape or form.

You can see Garafolo’s report below courtesy of NFL Network.

This is the best part of this off season by far. Shows how no one has given a second thought about the Bucs for years! Hell, I want to know Jenna’s “source” for these practices going on for awhile now. Jenna seems to write good stories on the Bucs, but she has never been able to push anyone on the Bucs into the media. She only writes a story a month I think before Brady. Mike Evens has how many years of thousand yard receiving and it’s only been done by what other receiver??? Nothing in the mainstream…. our good ole LB…. nothing. You can go on and on with this stuff and all of a sudden Brady and Gronk show up and I got money on this, the people at ESPN have to have these guys names written on their hands or a teleprompter so they remember the names because they’ve never said them before. Now all these so called “insiders” talking about them like they’ve watched them before….. it’s great TV laugh my ass off watching them with their knowledge.

Observations about players working out independently of One Buc Place in previous years are right on the money.

But, Paparazzi, Joe? The byline on the photos reads “Tampa Bay Times/Chris Urso”. That’s not paparazzi, that’s a staff photographer.

Atta boy Chris!I’m from NY originally. I went up there for a wedding a couple years ago and started talking to a die hard Eagles fan. Regarding 2002 NFCCG: He said the whole week all the local sports talk was how the Bucs might make a big play early but the Eagles would take over the game shortly after that. The funny thing is it was the complete opposite. The Eagles had a huge kickoff return leading to to points to start the game and it was all our ferocious defense, Joe Jurevicius and company from that point on.

  9. KYBUCFAN Says:

    @ Joe,

How is ‘The Sad Truth’s’ comment acceptable????

  10. cmurda Says:

Are we offended by Sad Truth’s comment because what he said is reserved for Sabby the Goat? Asking for a friend.

cmurda – awesome man. there are a bunch of fans here in the tri-state area. i am actually from toronto but currently live in nyc.

    Joe

I like your sense of humor…don’t always agree but respect it.

Like many here I’m offended by sadtruth’s sad comment. But I certainly get your take and position.

Besides humor there is something else to take from it.

During the debate over JW’s draft and the back and forth some of the people here used the term “thug”. I objected to that and still do. I see it used all the time to describe black males but never whites. For a white guy to be thug he needs to thug out…a black guy just needs to make a mistake while black and he’s immediately elevated to “thug” status.

JW is not my favorite player but he clearly is anything but a thug. No angel either but JW is NOT a thug.

TB12 is not a great WHITE hope. He’s a hope. sadtruth is simply too stupid to realize he’s guilty of projection…he’s a racist so he looks for it in everybody else.

Even Bighog who was disturbed by JW’s treatment is back on board with HOPE and I don’t think Bighog would take kindly to having a great WHITE hope…he has a great BUC hope.

  15. SC Bucs Fan Says:

stpetebucsfan when was the last time you saw, or thought, of a redneck being anything other than white? Some words are just connected to a race and thug is associated with black people. If you don’t think so, ask any of the rappers who have encorporated that persona into their profitable persona.

  16. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

@St. Pete Some people do not realize that racism runs two ways.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    SC Bucs Fan

Certainly take your point but….what are the pejoratives associated with the term redneck? No teeth? Bottom lip full of disgusting snuff? Confederate flags and pickup trucks? Does anybody here believe all rednecks deserve to go to jail?

Thug…has far more negative connotations. And accepting that racism exists among virtually all humans…doesn’t mean I approve of it.

I call myself “white trash” all the time…because I WAS!!! Some would say I still am! “White trash” and “redneck” are not that far apart I guess.

So let’s simply look at the definitions….

I’m white trash a redneck what does that mean…lets hit the googles.

    Redneck- red·neck
    •DEROGATORY
a working-class white person, especially a politically reactionary one from a rural area.

    thug
    noun

a violent person, especially a criminal.

So certainly both terms have negative connotations but I’d far rather be rural, working class…not happy being a reactionary but that’s not terrible either.

I’m not a violent criminal person and neither is JW.

“This was not the first time they worked out either”………allegedly!
    There, I fixed it.

We’re talking about team members of the Buc’s team, working out, which is a terrific thing to do, let’s send positive vibes out for more of this time together to occur. Go Bucs.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

cmurda…the summer after the Bucs won the SB I was traveling to Mass through Philly for some reason. Anyhow I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for like an hour. I had my Bucs SB Champs flag in my car window flopping all around for all of Philly to see when the traffic picked up I lit a cig, rolled the window down and lost my Bucs SB flag in the middle of Philly.

Can only imagine how many Eagles fans saw that flag on the side of the road while they were stuck in traffic.

    Good times!

Luckily not shot at by Brady’s bodyguards.
