The Persistent Rumor

March 20th, 2020

No.

Yes, if you are anywhere near a radio the past few days, you likely heard the voice of internationally-popular JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman.

Why is that? Well, the Bucs are making news.

And while America is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, there are no sports. None. Zero. And clearly the sports story of the week is Tom Brady coming to the Bucs (has he signed yet?).

Radio stations all across America are talking Bucs football. Yes, really. Quite literally from coast-to-coast. What else is there to talk about in sports?

So with radio shows needing hours a day to be filled, Ira has been all over talking Bucs and Brady. Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, “Movin’ the Chains,” “PFT Live,” you name it. Ira’s been there.

Holy Toledo! Even Toledo.

And when appearing on “Nick Switala’s Green Light Special” heard on WCWA-AM 1230, Ira was asked about a rumor that is floating around social media the past few days: Antonio Brown and the Bucs.

Here was Ira’s response.

Joe agrees with Ira but will go a couple of steps further.

It is pretty safe to suggest Brown is a cancer, yes? Remember, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht still has fresh in his memory how offsides-jumping, Lightning-trolling, belly-shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star, half-sack Swaggy Baker and malcontent Desean Jackson tore apart the Bucs locker room. You think Licht wants to go down that road again?

Also, seasons for Brown’s last three teams ended horribly. Brown quit on the Steelers, was such an a-hole in Oakland Chucky traded him away and the Belicheats washed their hands of him because he wouldn’t calm down.

What makes anyone think he would fly right with the Bucs and behave?

Joe was on “The Jeff Cameron Show” on ESPN Tallahassee this week, with the ScuttleBucs guys Jeff Cameron and Tom Lang. Joe was asked about Brown. Joe thought maybe both Bucco Bruce Arians and Tom Brady could keep Brown under control when Cameron brought up a fantastic point.

Not even Bill Belicheat and Brady could control Brown. Or Chucky. Or Mike Tomlin.

Excellent point!

Just from a football perspective, the Bucs don’t need Brown. Unless Joe is offbase here, didn’t the Bucs lead the NFL in passing last year? So why would they need a notorious cancer who was basically run off his last three teams? If the Bucs need a receiver so bad, keep Breshad Perriman.

Look, last Joe checked the team desperately needs a running back, will need a right tackle and very much needs a safety.

Look what happened in the 2017 draft when the Bucs drafted a luxury pick and ignored a major need. How did that turn out?

Just say “No” to Brown.

But what if takes it to really get Brady and then what?

  2. Lamarcus Says:

If that’s what it takes then do it. He is suspended away until next year then cut him

  3. CPN Says:

No point in Licht bringing up the phones to call Brown. But if Licht does that, we may as well go get Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, and Johnny Football to ring out the locker room full of headcases.

  4. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Tom Terrific LOVES AB – and wants AB as part of his arsenal.

WHO RULES here? Tom or Jason/BA? I think….Tom rules….AB will wear the new Bucs uniform in 2020…

  5. MadMax Says:

No Nope No No Nope No!!

  6. RagingBrisket Says:

If Brady brings him in as a vouch-for then Brady takes responsibility for his overall affect on the team on and off the football team. It’s his personal request. Browns’ “effect” is not in doubt from anyone’s perspective. I’m open to the possibility given the low risk/high reward.
All moot until this plague floats on

  7. Brion Says:

I dunno Joe – he will cost nothing, heigh ceiling, can be cut at any time and can’t possibly poison a Brady lead team. Isn’t this type of signing kind of what made the Patriots the Patriots for so long?

  8. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Out of curiosity, why do you list running back as the number one need? Last I checked, Ronald Jones is better than Josh Wells as a football player. And the Bucs have Whitehead, Edwards, maybe Evans, and maybe MJ Stewart at safety.

  9. Bucco bruce Says:

No way! Brown is a number one wr and a cancer, we already have two that are number ones on any team.we need a speedy specialist like Emmanuel Sanders maybe even Robby Anderson. If we got Robby Anderson it would be one of the best trios of wide receivers ever.Tampaaaa

  10. RagingBrisket Says:

Bucs fans are so scared of real superstar talent that they want to play it safe but now is the time to get over it and welcome the bold change. Mediocrity is getting very old in this town. Go Bucs.

They already got Brady. He got his physical today. That made it official. It just isn’t on their website yet. Keep in mind, the website people are working from home.

Also, it was never actually confirmed that Brady wanted Brown, but if he did bring it up, it was likely to the teams that actually needed a WR for him to throw to.

Did you notice they didn’t keep him?

People see a name they recognize and instantly want to sign him. We don’t even need a WR! We have Evans, Godwin, and Miller (came on strong at the end of the year). We have Brate who Brady will love, and we have OJ who Brady will salvage.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Btw, Bucs already said no to Brown becoming a Buc, so the point is moot.

  14. adam from ny Says:

the truth is perriman could be lethal in this offense with brady being able to throw receivers open…

and if he can maximize the potential of miller and watson, then we don’t need anyone else basically…

maybe get perriman back in here…and brady turns his white receivers into legit threats like he did with so many in new england…

yeah i just said his white receivers…

    lol sorry not sorry…facts…

if these guys are all the truth, hey…all we need is a lousy latch on 6th receiver…

hit up the ramada and freddy martino…heehaa

    vero beach here i come!

  15. adam from ny Says:

chances are brady turns one of the two…..

scotty miller or justin watson into a mini-star…

so technically you might already have your third receiver in one of those guys

  16. adam from ny Says:

brady is gonna be one baaaad mofo in that new all pewter color rush uni…

he might get straight wicked once he suits up in that thing…

i’m all in on a brady authentic pewter color rush jersey as we speak…

that’s the one to get imho

  17. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

@Joe –If Tom Terrific wants AB —Get ready for AB in new BUCs uniform.

  18. Buczilla Says:

    Hell no.

  19. westernbuc Says:

I think this is just nonsense to fill the airwaves. I could see drafting another guy or even trading for Edelman, but AB is nuts and might be suspended for 10+ games

  20. Big O Says:

If it’s a package deal with Brady and Brown, I’d rather roll the dice with jameis Winston!!!! At least with Winston I already know what to expect!!!!

  21. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Brady SHOULD Kill it —with ME13 and Godwin as his key receivers. All signs – point to SB!!! We do not need AB!

ON Paper, BUCs are in SB!!!

WHAT IF: Brady is “not all that”. And Tom struggles to get passes to ME13 & Godwin, with same pass rush that JW endured with no pocket. And with predictable play calls based on Down/Distance.and NO Running game threat.

Expect that Tom will overcome! GOAT!!!

And Tom Brady, being less mobile than JW, in same situation, will get ball out to WR’s or throw out of bounds. Tom has limited mobility – his decision-making will keep him alive with Bucs O-Line issues.

Tom will inspire team confidence to Win!!!

JW lost his team confidence – via turnovers. Telling > that not a SINGLE Bucs player -advocated for JW to return as Bucs QB.

Bucs have GOAT, as QB. SB Win is expectation.

    We have a D now….Let’s go Tom –Ring # 7

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Who is the Bucs #3 WR? Scotty Miller?

Brady gets what Brady wants. If that’s not the case, then why did you sign him?

Also, the 4 game hot stretch of Perriman was fine, and he’d be nice to have come back assuming he actually shows up for 16 games this time around. But Brown still looked fantastic last year when he actually played. If Brady says he can control him and keep him in line, well that’s good enough for me.

  23. Defense Rules Says:

WesternBuc I agree with you. This is pure silliness to fill the airwaves. Is Antonio Brown talented? Yes. Is he also a selfish head-case? Most assuredly. No thanks.

  24. Ozzie the Sports Junkie Says:

Uncle Ira is spot on..Not enough footballs to go around and if ANYBODY deserves the pinpoint 6 ring encrusted spiral in stride its Mike Evans and Godwin..Both #1s on any team in NFL ..
Evans constant adjustments ,fall back ,ankle grabs, sliding catches from the Forner QB was nothing short of miraculous..Makes one wonder how many more TDs Evans and Godwin may hsve put up-the last few seasons. They need RBs ..And O line depth if not replacing one if not more .Even in the middle if tbe new black plague its GREAT TO BE A BUCCANEERS FAN RIGHT NOW ..its been a broken record if inept ,underachieving, overpaid coaches and players alike ..We deserve this ..And its just starting .!!!

  25. Bucsfanman Says:

The fact that anybody is even talking about this clown is a joke! No NFL team in their right mind is going to sign this guy unless they are desperate.

  26. Clean House Says:

They led the league in passing because they had the NFLs leading passer Jameis Winston. It will not happen again.

  27. Kevin Nieto Says:

Joe, on Wednesday after news of Brady’s imminent signing, Florio mentioned on his Podcast that it was the Chargers who were leaking some of the information about Brady as they felt jilted. Any indication that this is the case? All the dories I’ve read seem to sight “league sources” and I don’t believe it’s come from Schefter or King, the NFL’s informal mouthpieces. Thanks for keeping this thing going, we need it now more than ever.

  28. Buc50 Says:

Can’t understand why people think this is a great idea. He’s a stage 4 cancer…if there was a 5, he would be that. Once you look at a few of his videos, you know he’s a clown and thinks he’s above any law.

  29. zwak Says:

This would not be a good look..

  30. Allbuccedup Says:

Just say no to this head case.

  31. OneBuc55 Says:

Evans and Godwin are the obvious…

Brady could make Scotty Miller a superstar…His ability to hit receivers in stride is as good as any QB ever…

  32. Tom Edrington Says:

Brady will find out what HE REALLY NEEDS are offensive linemen who will keep him upright……receivers are the Bucs strong suit….

  33. mark2001 Says:

Agree with Rod that Scotty Miller may not be the answer…hurt too often.

But Brown will likely be suspended a large part of the season… so I think Brady’s liking to have him or not will be somewhat academic. And he will likely want way too much money.

  34. TOM Says:

NO NO NO NO NO Wonder what it would take to get Edelman?

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

Sexual assault is a crime, and at the very least a hassle.

  36. 1sparkybuc Says:

What the Bucs really need is a QB. Brady was the 17th ranked QB in the NFL last year.

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

Agree with all who label AB as a cancer and would only add BA has already worked with him and apparently is not enamored with prima donnas.

    R E S P E C T! Find out what it means to me!!!

I LOVE ME13 AND CG12!!! Whomever is putting this crap out has insulted two of the premier WR’s in the entire league!!! These guys put it on the line for the Bucs week in and week out putting their bodies at risk catching cannon arms inaccurate blasts.

Beyond that though…as CG began to blow up and get all the ink how did our star handle that. ME13 is as classy a WR as I’ve ever seen…CG is right behind him. They are the top tandem I’ve seen since Swann and Stallworth.

Scrw AB…we do not even need him!!! Even if he wasn’t a head case.

This disgusts me…dissing not only TWO talents as great as ME and CG but dissing two of the finest character athletes on our team.

AB is not good enough to make this team…we only have ONE football..ME CG
OJ Brate…and Akers or whichever back we bring in to catch out of the backfield.

I wish Brady could release a tweet that said while I like AB and admire his talent I never thought he would be coming to Tampa. ME and CG are two amazing receivers and I can’t wait for the virus to subside so I can start throwing to them.
