Kahzin Daniels Gone (For Now)

August 24th, 2019

Roster move.

Joe generally doesn’t like to write about camp meat because, in the grand scheme of things, most fans don’t care.

Joe can tell what fans read and don’t read. He has access to data on this here site. And, to quote the great columnist Martin Fennelly, “You cannot write enough about the stars.” It works in TV and it works in print and works on the internet.

Practice squad? Pppffftt! Make the team first, will ya?

Joe tends not to spend valuable time and resources and energy on things that bore readers. And the only time Joe will write about camp meat is if a guy really sticks out for some reason, a novelty, or he somehow directly affects a starter or the team.

A novelty player this year was pass rusher Kahzin Daniels, a sack artist from Division II University of Charleston. Aside from being one of the top sackmeisters in the country with 34 sacks while at Charleston, Daniels had a physical ailment despite his football talents.

Daniels is blind in one eye.

Well today, at least for the time being, Daniels’ NFL dream has been cut short. The Bucs waived him with an injury settlement, per Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. This is a bit complex but here is the definition from Pro Football Rumors of the term waived/injured:

Prior to the first cutdown date in training camp, injured players with fewer than four years of service time cannot be placed on injured reserve until they pass through waivers. Teams will cut this sort of player with a waived-injured designation, allowing other teams to place a claim if they so choose. If the player goes unclaimed, his team can place him on IR or agree to an injury settlement, then fully release him from the roster.

So, yeah, there is a chance Daniels may get another chance with the Bucs. Currently, he’s looking for work.

This is the bummer part of the NFL…….a kid….hopes & dreams…..very hard work….gets a shot…..doesn’t make it, for now. You simply have to root for a guy like Kahzin to make it.
    Good luck young man!!!

Good luck, Kahzin,..it’s gotta be hard, man.

Wow Joe, when the caption said ‘Roster Move’ I thought you were going to tell us that our man Jason had just traded for an OLineman. Now I’m disappointed.

On looking at our roster cutdown to 53 players, I think most everyone now probably has a reasonable idea of who’ll make the cut. Just for kicks …

    o QB – Winston, Griffin
o RB – Barber, RoJo, Ogunbowale, Ellington (1 possible replacement later)
o WR – Evans, Godwin, Perriman, Watson, Schnell, Wilson
o TE – Howard, Brate, Auclair, Hudson
o OLine – D Smith, Marpet, Jensen, Cappa, Dotson, Watson, Bailey, LeRibeus, Benenoch (2 possible replacements later)

o DL – Suh, Vea, Allen, Nunez-Roches, Gholston, Ledbetter
o OLB – Barrett, Nassib, Nelson, Spence
o ILB – LVD, White, Bucannon, Minter, Bond, Cichy
o CB – Davis, Dean, VHIII, Murphy-Bunting (R Smith won’t count while suspended)
    o S – Whitehead, MJ Stewart, J Evans, D Stewart, Brice

    o P – Pinion
    o K – Gay
    o LS – Triner

Defense……I agree will all of you roster picks……however, I do think that Miller will make it instead of Schnell……Schnell will be on the PS…..also, you have Stewart listed as S…..I actually think he will play nickel.

    Defense.
A lot of buc’s fans expect us to keep just 4 CB’s because that is what we have done in the past. However, Bowles kept 7 cbs and 5 safeties last year. I am guessing he does at least 10 total in the defensive backfield this year so I am leaning towards your 9 as light. New England tends to keep more. Last year their final 53 had 6 ‘s and 4 safeties. Green Bay had 6 cb’s and 5 safeties at the start of the season. I think we are following that trend. Houston and Chicago had 10 total DB’s each.

Maybe Isiah Johnson is that guy.

  6. geno711 Says:

Last night all of the defense looked good.
The Browns started four drives across midfield but the defense only gave up four field goals.
They did their job and the team won because of it.
They held Mayfield to 10 0f 26 for 72 yards and 1 interception.

    Defense Rules,

Schnell didn’t even play in the game. A very telling omission. He has ZERO chance of making the team. Miller got in with the first team. He will be given every opportunity to win a spot. Wilson has return ability while Watson may make the team as Godwin’s backup in the slot. No other WR on the team has the physicality to play that position.

    Defense Rules
You’re about right with your picks but Bond was moved to olb.

  9. TOM Says:

Watson is a very good ST player.
