The DeSean Jackson Mystery

January 19th, 2019

Something doesn’t add up here.

This calling/not talking between new Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson is getting thick with drama and suspense.

Last Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Arians planned to reach Jackson quickly in order to sweet talk Jackson into starting fresh with the Bucs and staying in Tampa Bay.

Earlier this week, Joe learned Arians was reaching out to all Bucs players and honestly this isn’t really a surprise. Most new coaches do this. It’s little more than Arians introducing himself and trying to pump up the player and say he’s eager to see the whole team April 1 when offseason conditioning begins.

So now we learn, after TMZ ambushed Jackson at LAX (which TMZ does do so well, the airport there is like TMZ’s satellite office), Jackson claims he hasn’t talked to Arians.

Something weird is going on here. Joe guesses Arians, who is has been in Arizona this week pimping his charity golf outing to be held in March, hasn’t yet called Jackson but one would think that would have been a priority.

It’s not like Arians hasn’t been a bit distracted with hiring a coaching staff, and trying to find a new crib and making the media rounds talking about his new job and his golf outing.

Is it possible Arians simply hasn’t called Jackson? In Rapoport’s report last week, he said reaching out to Jackson was atop Arians’ to-do list. Or could it be that Jackson (or his agent) — remember, Jackson asked to be traded — is stonewalling Arians and not returning texts/voice mails?

Coach speak and putting perfume on the turd before the draft so he can trade djax to the raiders or niners

I hear DeSean Jackson is selling his home in TB. Maybe Arians should call him and see if they can work out a price.

The fact that DJax and Winston share an agent is just weird to me. You’d think they’d want to work together but wtfdik.

Agree with above. Bucs need to make it seem like he is wanted for some trade value. Otherwise , Bucs will just simply cut bait and any team can get into bidding war.

Arians called AB a diva . So is DJax . Most high end receivers are . Obj for sure.

Glad we got a humble Mike Evans. I want to see what Arians can do with his matchups. I don’t think there is a receiver in nfl with his size and quickness. He is open every play 😂 Plus , he has more speed then you think with his long strides.

  4. gbobucsfan Says:

    100% agree Duthsty !

  5. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read your article yesterday about DJax. Maybe Rappaport simply got the story wrong. If it was accurate I think Arians would have made the call already.

  6. ben Says:

You can’t blame Djax for wanting a trade since his career has to be his priority. Fits could connect with him down field and Winston isn’t accurate to throw in smaller window .. It’s better for him and the team to move on.

  7. OneBuc55 Says:

MeSean Jackson is the total opposite of a team player…

The new Team Obliterater… Considering he was one of the elderstatesmen of the team, younger guys looked up to him…So the fact that he tends to set a bad example wherever he goes is just further proof why he has to go…

Dude is only loyal to himself and the dollar; there’s nothing wrong with that if you’re a race car driver, a tennis player, or a golfer…but there’s no place for the mentality in football…

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sounds to me that Arians really isn’t that interested in Djax……which would be no surprise.
    No call….equals no interest.

  9. Not there yet Says:

Honestly who cares, the last thing BA needs to do is go turd chasing because he’s not as important as guys who want to be here and the drama isn’t worth the price tag. I would call him to say you find a trade partner that will give us compensation or you’ll rot in the bench until we do.

  10. VFL98 Says:

IDK but I don’t want Jackson on the team. He is a great player but a spoiled diva. Hope Arians drains the ship of that kind of mentality. Go Bucs!

  11. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

No Desean Jackson = No Super Bowl

  12. AlteredEgo Says:

Of course BA needs a sit down face to face with DJax to do his due diligence ….I’d love to be a fly on the wall if DJax speaks the truth about why he wants out….:-)

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

I wrote to TMAX yesterday describing “character issue” players who in the extreme got busted or suspended the night before the SB!

Would anybody be shocked if DJAX was unhappy if he walked before a playoff game. The problem with selfish character issue guys is not just that they INFECT your locker room with the potential of spreading their horrible virus…you literally cannot depend on them.

As for trading DJAX can somebody explain to me how that would happen? First the other team has to think DJAX is worth ten million bucks and be willing to eat that salary. How many teams think that…seriously!

So perhaps the Bucs can pay part of the ten million. Say they paid five million would that go against our cap? I think DJAX’s over priced contract, his attitude, and his age make him questionable on the open market.

Let’s just cut him move on and see how close to ten million he can grab in FA. He’s good but he’s not freaking great.

Just how many rings does Jackson have to prove your point?

    I’ll wait.

    Bonzai-

    That is a false premise

  16. Buc4life24 Says:

Always been a DJAX fan…but he needs to go! Trade him while he had value to add another piece to our relevancy puzzle!! Addition by subtraction!

  17. Jimbo Says:

This cancer should have been traded earlier by the Gumpster. A 4th rounder would be just fine. MeJax is a total minus. Let’s move on.

  18. Buc4life Says:

Go get John Brown for 1/4 the price for DJAX. He is younger, just as fast, runs more routes, knows BAs offense and isn’t a cancer in the locker room.

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Ariens maybe contacted his agent.
DJax is due to report April 1 with everyone else.
He has no business reason to stonewall Ariens.
By the way, I don’t know of 1 Bucs player who has complained about DJax.
The only negative I’ve heard is from media , especially Tampa BAY TIMES (who cares) and former coaches (good riddance)

John Elway wouldn’t play for Colts
Eli Manning wouldn’t play for Chargers
Tony Dorsett wouldn’t play for Seahawks
Jim Kelly at first refused to play for Bills and signed with USFL
Bo Jackson wouldn’t sign with Bucs

I guess they’re all Divas not good enough for (idiot) Buc fan

    You started it, lol.

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DJax is scum. Period.

He;s not as good as advertised and never was. The reason he had seemingly good production before Tampa is because his QBs were throwing to him more than anyone else…and even with his drops and poorly timed routes, he was able to catch just enough passes to pad his stats.

The real Desean Jackson…and mind you, I pointed this out when he was signed…is a man who cares more about avoiding the hits than catching the ball, a man who takes many, many plays off.

No one can doubt he has the ability to get past blockers and leave them in the dust, and yet he is constantly held up. That’s because he doesn’t give the effort needed most of the time. He takes plays off.

Jackson is worse than Grimes if you think about it. Grimes takes plays off because he isn’t paid enough. Jackson takes plays off and he IS paid enough.

  22. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

The reason Djax wasn’t traded earlier is because Licht knew Kotter was out and BA might have had interest in him.

But now that BA has looked at the situation, he realizes Djax is cancer.

Does anybody make a phone call to talk to cancer?

  23. Marine Buc Says:

Trust, respect and loyalty. Does DJax display any of those qualities? Bye-bye DJax.

  25. BucFan3 Says:

Play the PR Game and trade that diva. Ask TO how his career panned out playing a TEAM game as an Individual. Buffalo has picks to sell snd think D-Jax would love the weather there.

  26. Mikey Says:

Dude, this is usual stuff, Joe.

They are smoothing the outsider optics and this effort is only to ensure getting good compensation for him in trade.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

If they do bring back Jackson they better get a rush attack. If not they are just wasting another 10M…….that would be 30M total for having a track star on your football team.

Weeks 1-2 from 2018 pro that Jackson is a major threat again st single safety looks.

The other 30 weeks of his time here proobe he can ever be anything more then a 10M decoy vs cover 2.

  28. Dapostman Says:

MeSean averages 3.8 catches a game for his career.

    MeSean averages 2 long TD’s a year.

    MeSean averages 4.8 TD’s a season.

I don’t understand the love for a guy who will make 1 catch a quarter and that catch will result in a TD once every 3 games.

His play is easily replaceable MeSean nut huggers and so is his attitude.

  29. Joe Says:

Joe won’t be that harsh. He’s a talented player, no question.

Overrated? Yeah. Joe sees all kinds of offenses on TV each week who do well and they don’t have DJax on the roster.

  30. BucfanBF Says:

Goodbye Desean Jackson! Dangle him for trade bait or draft picks and see what we can get. At the very minimum let him go and save his salary for additional cap space.

  31. Buc believer Says:

In Arizona pimping his golf outing??? One would think he should be at one Buc studying film and looking at players with Jason Gump.

  32. BucEmUp Says:

Can we just stop acknowledging Djax? Hes a bum, a bad teammate and a cancer to the team. Just quit takking about him and let it go away already holy crap I dont see many teams paying him to be a diva litke crybaby

  33. Jean Lafitte Says:

Some want so much to rid ourselves from DJax (whom by the way stays out of trouble for the most part) but then the same people want to bring in Kareem Hunt the woman abuser. The moral outrage is deafening as long as it’s against someone they seem to hate. I find it ironic some fans don’t mind woman abusers like Winston, or Hunt but are simply outraged that DJax thought the team should stay with the hotter QB. #Idiocracy

Trade him but stop with the character assassination when you have no ideal what’s going on. Society is getting sicker and sicker. You all do know that Winston and DJax are friends? Winston said so.

  34. Dapostman Says:

    Well Joe,

talent is a subjective term. There is a wide range of talent. The numbers I posted speak for themselves. I do agree with you. OVERRATED is spot on.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Don’t need to have two #2 WR and pay one $10 million

  36. SOEbuc Says:

The way BA called out AB pu$$y a$$, I’m thinking there might not be a DB!tch return.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Jean your making really bad comparisons. The problem is you can’t win with players who are dividing the lockerroom.

This has nothing to do with anybody’s moral values. Some people are just wanted to see the team win. Nobody’s saying these players are better people the Jackson…..but they probably believe that Jackson hurts our ability to win then the other guys you said….They make a good point actually.

Also quit using football opinions as a guage of society. Jeez

  38. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

I think he either returns or is traded draft night. I would certainly love to see him back one more year under a new voice. He’s been pretty good he just didn’t have the motivation to do more for Winston. I don’t think he and Winston were a problem at all just Koetter was in between those two. That last meeting before he flew to New York to get his thumb checked I believe Djax got into it with Koetter and I believe he told Jameis then he didn’t have nothing against him. I believe Winston and Djax both put their heads together in that moment and decided the coaching staff was ruining them. They’ve all said it to from Grimes to Dotson and even Djax has showed it as well. National media even knew it.

  39. Darin Says:

    Duthsty
Exactly. If Arians said they wana trade him the value just dropped 2 rounds. He is gona keep him unless he gets an offer he cant refuse. Which means the best offer.

  40. firethecannons Says:

Dude is not worth 10 million–trade him for any pick and get CJ Mosely for 10 million such a no brainer!
