Ex-Bucs G Blasts Brent & Miko Grimes

January 21st, 2019

Guns blazing.

In the eyes of a former Bucs guard and a popular local radio personality, Bucs free agent cornerback Brent Grimes cannot leave the Tampa Bay area soon enough.

Ian Beckles, who in addition to his local radio duties hosts a weekly podcast called “In the Trenches,” absolutely blasted the veteran corner and his wife Miko for words Brent had to say recently on Miko’s own podcast about playing for the Bucs last year.

Grimes had signed a one-year pact for $7 million and while he missed the first two games with an injury, Grimes stated on Miko’s podcast he didn’t want to cover Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown all over the field in his Week 3 debut when asked by coaches because, in short, he wasn’t paid enough to shadow No. 1 receivers.

Grimes said the unreasonable request from coaches, in so many words, blew his “vibe” for the rest of the season.

This apparently enraged Beckles who believes the Bucs shouldn’t even think of re-signing Grimes. In a recent podcast published that bears the title, “Time for Brent Grimes to Go Away,” Beckles said Grimes was set up by his wife to say inflammatory things.

“Brent Grimes, just go away, OK?” Beckles began. “First of all, if your wife has a podcast, you are wrong. I don’t know why anybody would give a rat’s @ss what she thought about football.

“If you listen to the podcast — and I certainly would not; I listened to some of the excerpts — they are disgusting. She is who wears the pants, clearly. She is goading him into saying stupid sh!t that is going to lose him his job. OK?

“I could be somebody that says, ‘That makes sense.’ Or I could be somebody who played the same game for a while and made — I could tell you how much I made and it ain’t $7 million. I will let you know that. Is it the equivalent of $7 million? Hell no! I’m making less than a million dollars in my last year, OK? Way back when.”

Beckles went on to say how stupid it would be if he had told a coach he couldn’t block John Randle or Leon Lett because his backup is making three-times more money.

“And Brent Grimes, I hope he knows how dumb he sounds,” Beckles added. “When that is replayed, first of all, it doesn’t sound like you have a nutsack at all. It sounds like it was removed by your wife and she has it in a jar with formaldehyde. Alright?

“For your wife to have a podcast for people to hear what she says about your football career, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

A week later it seemed Beckles hadn’t calmed down about Grimes. Beckles’ diatribe was much shorter in his next podcast.

“Brent Grimes, just go,” Beckles said. “I mean, Brent Grimes, he should just retire and be all hugged up with his just disgusting wife. Just be hugged up with her, please. Go. Brent Grimes, I don’t see any situation where anyone would want Brent Grimes. And I mean anybody.

“He’s at the end of his rope and he’s not a good football player anymore. I would be shocked if he is in the league anywhere. He may get a chance to try out for somebody because his wife is probably going to force him to do that.”

First, Joe has no idea what Miko has to do in all of this. Going after Miko seems out of bounds here. If it wasn’t for Miko’s pod, nobody would have known about Grimes’ grievances. Many were quite valid. (Former defensive coordinator Mike Smith and cornerbacks coach Jon Hoke were targeted and skinned and who honestly can fault Grimes with calling a spade a spade here? Hell, Joe wants to thank Grimes for his candor!)

Joe does understand how the salary comment, unless it was said in jest, just might put a dagger in Grimes’ career. If he wants to play in 2019, he’s going to have one helluva time walking that comment back from an NFL general manager or coach.

And if Grimes does return, smart offensive coaches would devise matchups to get their No. 1 receiver on Grimes because, in any particular game, he may not be motivated to lock down a receiver just because of his salary.

Joe again applauds Grimes for being honest and up front. But that salary comment, that may haunt him for a long, long time, and not in a good way.

Doing anything other than condemning the dude for these comments after the season is disgusting.
Trump is just being honest about his opinions. Hitler was just being honest with his opinions. The list goes on and on.
Let’s raise a statue of Grimmes and his skank wife for “keeping it real”.

There shouldnt be anybody in that locker room that respects him anymore, but Joe hoists him up. What a joke. Joe isn’t hoisting anyone and Joe was first to write about the comments and blasted Grimes then. Joe appreciates any player that gives fans a clear window into the team and his feelings. Fans like to know stuff beyond the corporate BS and empty chatterwe get 95 percent of the time. –Joe

  7. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Beckles said what we all feel. Brent Grimes is a castrated shell of a man and his masculine wife is repulsive

  8. TOM Says:

Bill Mauer you are a scumbag & a joke to humanity.

  9. JabooBuc Says:

He sounds 100% correct to me.

Don’t you think it is a little much comparing Brent Grimes to genocidist?

  11. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Let’s not forget Brent Grimes and his wife Miko wore out their welcome in Miami too. There is a trend here and I think more teams may think he is more of a cancer in the locker room than worth the effort to sign an aging and declining veteran. At this point in the game, veterans such as Grimes should be a mentor to the young guys but from my understanding he did not take the mantel to help out the young CBs, especially Hargreaves who he criticized by saying he was best a slot CB.

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

Grimes was never a lock down CB. He’s never been a CB to roam the field and line up on #1 WRs.

Not defending him being an a4shole about it, but this just shows how inept the coaching staff was.

Also Miko loved Mike Smith like a year or so ago. Now he’s someone they refuse to play for. Kind of shows how hard he fell as a coach so quickly in Tampa.

  13. Jonzey Says:

    He is right by Brent

  14. Yeogib Says:

The Joes sure love them son Miko.

do not always agree with that dude but I give him credit for staying relevant. he works it hard… I also respect the fact he does not need protection or coddling from editors and welcomes any and all criticism. way to be a man Mr beckels.

It sounds like it was removed by your wife and she has it in a jar with formaldehyde. Alright?

a question, under Florida law who gets the jar with nuts if a divorce occurs. who actually owns the nuts once jared???

  16. lokog Says:

Bill Mauer is mad cuz brent is a puss cakes n everybody knows it. its probably his mommy worrying what people say about him. pathetic on a site with normal people who live a normal life so what if our bucs lose that’s our team who real fans are loyal 2 no matter what not like those with a “life” who grasshop from team to team friends to friends. grimey probably thinks he can redeem himself cuz he didn’t even get 1 int if somebody does sign him it should be the failcons a grimey guy for a grimey city, im glad the aints lost I don’t care about the bad call we all know how many calls have gone against the bucs gotta go homies im going out looking for this “life”hahahahaha

Nothing wrong with freedom to speak your mind. It’s just a good idea to remember there may be consequences.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

instead of the fans being pissed at Joe, Miko and Brent why not show some hate where it’s actually deserved and that is at the glazers. They glazers are owners thus 100% for everything buc. I understand responsibility is really a tough term for most to grasp in this world of hugs and handouts that being said glazers are responsible for letting the building turn into a free for all. If the franchise had strong leadership from top to bottom these things don’t fester. Both the grimes and djax situations don’t happen or are minimized immediately if the organization had leadership. simple as that. the bucs organization is a joke and it’s up to B.A. to fix it. good luck sir!

  19. Darin Says:

    Brent and Miko who?

  20. diggler Says:

I like Miko man, she knows how to play the “game”. Very smart woman BUT that being said Brent needed to retire years ago no offense to him.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    Bill Mauer

tell mommy it’s time for your meds and a nap… night night little one

  22. Slugglife Says:

Grimes quit on the team. Period. He signed the contract. His skills didn’t demand twice what he was paid.

Roughly half a million a game and he’s underpaid. Haul ass sucka. Can’t use you here.

  23. VdubVW Says:

Hey Bill Mauer!!! I’m sorry could you say that again?
AND TAKE THAT FAT D!$K OUT OF YOUR MOUTH BEFORE YOU SPEAK AGAIN!!!!

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

Players are entitled to their own sense of self worth even if they are out of their mind. Oh to be a big stud football player.

  25. firethecannons Says:

Brent Grimes was not worth anywhere near the 7 mill he made last year–he is washed up–hopefully the Bucs have found higher quality coaching to help our young Bucs get better, like to see us get some vets to support this line also. Brent Grimes should be history.

  26. unbelievable Says:

Haha if you guys go back to the last article about them from a couple days ago, you can see I got into it with MIko in the comments section:

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2019/01/want-grimes-meet-mikos-demands/

And I’ve actually like Miko for the most part to be honest. But when you start talking chit about the fanbase of the team your man plays for? Nah man.

You’re still the highest paid corner on the team, that means you’re the #1 guy. Crying over 7 mil vs 8 mil when most people never make that much money in their entire life and you’ve clearly lost a step? Unreal.

  27. unbelievable Says:

all my posts in moderation, ughhhhhhhhh

  28. Nick2 Says:

Damn Mr. Beckles tells it like it is and he is 100% right. How can you dare take $7million and considered a “free agent” sought after #1 corner but be afraid or upset to cover the other teams best player. News Flash only Josh Norman of all NFL elite cornerbacks averages more than $7 million guaranteed in one season. I guess Mr Grimes just feels we should overpay for a guy who will get intimidated and shown up if he is asked to cover an “elite receiver.” He might as welll say well didnt you guys know I am washed up and just milking the team? You really think I should risk embarrassment for $7 million??? No way. Yes Mr. Beckles i second your request Brent Grimes go the hell away and please dont ever call yourself elite because you were a waste of $7 million and you had the nerve to whine about it. Miko I have listened too and you do seem like you have a collar around poor Brent. Brent wake up take off the collar and retire.

  29. BringBucsBack Says:

    Beckles is usually correct.

When Grimes leaves I wonder if he donates his jerseys to Goodwill, as Koetter did. They should be easy to sell since they don’t have a solitary grass-stain on them. Like new!

  30. Elita Vita Says:

It’s interesting that a player who has not acted professionally or up to his abilities makes demands on future possible employers.

  31. Old School Athlete Says:

Looks like Debilah changed her screen name.

    Bye Briko.

  32. Wesley Says:

Miko is a disgusting narcissistic trash of an individual. She gloats about how much money she has while putting others down. She is an embarrassment, just read some of her tweets.

  33. stpetebucsfan Says:

“all the fatties on here live to post on this site as they are losers like their team”

You need the name of a good therapist…perhaps you and TMAX could go together and get a good discount. LMAO

  34. TBTemojin Says:

First time in a while I have agreed with Beckles.. Grimes shot himself in the foot with his comments doesn’t seem like he wants to play football anymore. Good luck with your retirement. Hey Joe how about an update on Vernon?? We bringing him back next year???
