I don’t see how you can fire a man who was opposed to drafting the turnover machine. Koetter has been successful with other QBs in the league, so I’d say the blame is on JW. So Koetter should coach forever here because he initially preferred a different quarterback when he wasn’t even head coach?? That really doesn’t make sense. Did he prefer a different QB when he got the job in 2016, or when the Bucs were 8-5 in 2016?

But you guys will succeed in getting Koetter run and you won’t admit JW is NOT a franchise QB until another coach fails to get through to him….if then. I can clearly see the 3 of you in 3 years saying the Bucs should never have hired a defensive coach, because JW needed an offensive coach…….

Should Joe introduce you to Blaine Gabbert?

  3. WillieG Says:

He had Blaine for a year. Before Blaine, the Jags offense was pretty damn good. Yes, top-10 in the NFL, went to the playoffs. Joe has written that many times.–Joe

  4. Jim Says:

Weird. Isn’t Koetter’s record equal to or better than Winston’s? And hasn’t Koetter proven himself in the NFL with other teams, something Winston hasn’t done? So why is the firing conversation limited to Koetter?

  5. Ed Says:

I predicate this statement with how much I enjoy this podcast but hold on for a second. Ira makes the statement regarding a coach that isn’t bought into Winston as his guy not being hired because “The Glazers have a lot invested in Jameis”. Thats ridiculous, The Glazers are business people, have they gotten a return on their investment? Have the fans? I know investors that have had a lot of money invested in “franchise stocks:

General Motors, GE, Ford, Sears, Citi, yes they held on because they had a lot invested and you know what, their investments are worth dimes on the dollar.

Sometimes in the business world you have to look at if the charts are pointing up or down and as far as Jameis is concerned those arrows havn’t been going up for 2 years. His shares are way down so do the Glazers keep hope he’ll rise or look at the recent performance and conclude its time to put their money in other players with more upside.

Sometimes seems Joe and Ira blame mostly on the coach…..Did you check on JW stats? Are you gonna talk about GM´s blame only on kickers? What about the secondary? What about the running game? I am pretty sure that Koetter is gone, but the tendency is to blame him for the most, and I find it really unfair and incomplete…….

Koetter worked with Matt Ryan in Atlanta for 3 years. Only one good year which was the 2012 season. Lets not forget he Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Tony G. and mind you this was a Mike Smith coach team. So what if Koetter wanted another QB. If thats the case why did Koetter come here as the OC in 2015 and Lovie said Winston was his guy that he was drafting. Lets just face it you can split the blame across the board. I blame Koetter with his coaching and game management and in game adjustments. GM for poor player evaluations. JW with his ups and downs. I dont think you can keep both. I also don’t get why people so worried about JW 5th option. We all saw Mike Glennon go get a huge payday so what the difference? I’m a bucs fan always and forever but I hope they are able to get a good coach and GM.
