“I Think That Really Rattled Cutler”

Yes, one play can change a game — even when it doesn’t appear to be a game-changer or show up on BSPN.

Joe’s talking about Sunday’s first-quarter sack of Jay Cutler by Clinton McDonald. A starting defensive tackle, McDonald had been out with a hamstring injury since recording 1 1/2 sacks against the Broncos on Oct. 2.

There were plenty of big defensive plays Sunday against the Bears, but one was especially critical for the Tampa Bay head coach.

“I think the play that set the tone was Clinton McDonald’s sack,” Dirk Koetter told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “I think that really rattled Cutler. That was a hard hit, just kind of the way he threw him down, sort of on his shoulder and on his head. And I think that led to some of those errant throws as the game went on.”

That sack is pictured above, and maybe it was enough to get a guy with a questionable attitude like Cutler has to wilt.

Bucs fans are familiar with players getting rattled. (See Lavonte David.) What a treat it is to have the Bucs inflicting the pain for a change.

The Bucs Defense carried the game last Sunday!!!! The Bears are a limited offense, but the Defense stood up when offense was letting them down early in the game!!!!! I have no doubt that the defenses of 2014 and 2015 would have laid down!!!!! Things are turning the corner and the culture change is just starting!!!!! They do not have the horse to hand with the big teams yet!!! But thru coaching and scheme, this is a much improved defense!!!!!

    Go America!!!!!!

    And GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

It took lovie 21 games to get to 4 wins!!!!!! Improvement Indeed!!!!!!!!!!

Please don’t forget to use the word “bratty” when describing Jay Cutler. 🙂

It’s well known around the league that if you can hit Cutler hard a couple of times early in the game he will more or less wilt. My old man often says he would throw everything he had at him early even if it meant getting burned once or twice just so that he would take himself out of the game after a hit or two.

Ayers Gholston and McDonald set the tone. like mcdonalds game but he just is not on the field enough.

McDonald did the same thing to Siemian and knocked him out of the game. Welcome back, Sir. You are a very underrated part of the defense.

The Bears offense is high powered but the bucs dline has been getting after it all season there are multiple guys on our front in position for 10 sacks right McCoy, McDonald, and N. Spence. Gholston and Ayers provide a lot of versatility though in run and pass defense on unconventional downs such as third and shorts or second and longs where big plays can be made by opposing offenses. McDonald and W. Gholston are keepers in my opinion to go along with and rotate around McCoy but Ayers like Brent Grimes will only and deserve to keep getting paid if they stay productive for this frachise to draft and develop their replacement but we do need to draft another versatile end to tackle type of guy for the defensive front maybe in the third to fifth round range but just one dlineman later in the draft for depth and development behind one more year of Ayers or maybe two. I like the talent we have upfront defensively and i hope we decide to keep Clinton McDonald and Akeem Spence and Will Gholston at all cost which i think we can manage and afford to do.

Jay Cutler was garbage at Vanderbilt, and he’s garbage in the NFL. One play don’t make a difference, trash is trash.

So the DT can actually make impact plays ???

Weird I thought DT won’t win you games.

I love McDonald. Dude is a beast. Watched his post game locker room interview with no shirt the guy looks like he has two baseballs between his neck and shoulders.

  12. Cannon Says:

Man, just look at that picture…

He definitely had to feel all of that.

I suspect its similar to getting run over by a refrigerator o.O

  13. Turd Koetter Says:

Love McDonald, but Noah Spence made this play happen. He read the screen got in the passing lane which made Cutler pump and hold the ball. McDonald did the rest. I think this kid is going places.

    moderate deez knutts!

Clinton McDonald showed in his last game before getting injured against Denver how dominant he can be. The defensive line had five sacks, three hits and 10 hurries as a unit with Robert Ayers, William Gholston and Noah Spence all contributing. Gerold McCoy and the defensive line are the best defensive line in football when they are together.
