Season-Defining Drive?

November 20th, 2016
Another big play.

Another big play.

Joe doesn’t think it is outrageous to suggest that when an NFL team, any NFL team, is .500 at Thanksgiving, it’s reasonable to think playoffs.

Joe isn’t saying the Bucs will make the playoffs, but if they do, the Bucs very well could look to a drive in the fourth quarter that turned around their season from yet another NFC South basement-dwelling campaign into something special.

It was 12-10 Bucs early in the fourth when Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith began carving the Bucs apart. He marched the Chiefs to the Bucs-6 and it seemed certain Kansas City would take the lead. It was only a matter of how big.

Then, much-maligned Bucs safety Chris Conte stepped in, picking off a pass intended for Chris Conley that was tipped by Gerald McCoy five yards deep in the end zone. Conte took it out to the Chiefs-36.

Then, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, marched the Bucs on a nine-play drive that ended with a three-yard pass to Alan Cross for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown.

“That’s how you win football games,” Jameis said. “The defense comes up with a turnover and you have to execute. “The offense took it upon ourselves to go down there and get a touchdown for our team.”

If the Bucs really are playing meaningful games in January (what the hell are those?), Bucs fans can look back at this drive as the possession that turned the season around.

Not been a big Chris Conte fan but if he keeps playing like the last two weeks, I could change my mind.

Just think…..we had little to know run game and we had zero pass rush…..and I mean zero….and we still won.

We have really cleaned up our penalties and the one turnover in their territory didn’t kill us.

The defense bent but didn’t break.

Special teams were solid…..we played just good enough to win.

Ummm Joe was talking draft position 2 weeks ago.

And no they won’t make the playoffs this year.

That 3rd down completion at 2:00 was the money play.

@87 Both teams and players alike have developed through the course of a Season before. I’m not saying we’re a sure thing to make the play-offs but its a definite possibility if this team maintains its upward trajectory. In my book, its better to be a believer, so lets believe in our boys. #BELIEVE

  11. DB55 Says:

Lol. GMC had 0 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 pressures. Are you really hyping the fumble recovery? Gtfoh please. My question is why is gholston and Noah the best dline men on the team? Whatever who cares a win is a win.

  12. Capt. Blighe Says:

Crazy how a season turns, but the rest of our schedule looks brutal.

  13. BUC IT Says:

We don’t have a real good shot considering our upcoming seahawks and cowboys Get a win next week and it becomes a real possibility.

  14. clint Says:

Giving them two more wins with what remains is being kind. They’re not a playoff team.

  15. clint Says:

Beat Seattle then we can talk

  16. Buccos Says:

McCoy caused the interception that saved the day and maybe the season and he recovered a fumble.

  17. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Clint…go . eff. Yourself.

  18. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I bet you are kobe faker and just changed your name. There were people 2-3 wins ago saying we werent going to win another game this year.

    Guess What B.

Screw you and your p$$y mentality

Not sure about all that I appreciate the win against a playoff caliber team and not folding in the 4th quarter like usual. We’ll still have to upgrade our safety position. Conte is essentially playing for his next contract. Clint is right though if they expect to make the playoffs you’ll have to beat playoff/wildcard teams especially in the nfc (seattle)

@LifeOfABucFan: I KNEW that you were too good to be true to be an American girl!

  21. godzilla13 Says:

The bottom line is if you can beat KC on their home turf we can beat Seattle on ours. This team is learning how to win and they have fight in them. I have been a fan of Chris Conte and he is playing great ball. So many fans were down on him earlier in the season about his coverage skills and now he has been contributing at crucial times during games. That was a very good playoff bound team they beat today. Hats off to the entire team. What stood out for me was the OL and especially the two tackles, Dotson and Smith.
