Embarrassing Pass Defense

November 29th, 2015
Part of the reason the Bucs defense was so putrid against the pass today was that Colts ancient QB Matt Hasselbeck had so much time in the pocket he could order a pizza.

Part of the reason the Bucs’ defense was so putrid against the pass today was that Colts ancient QB Matt Hasselbeck had so much time in the pocket he could order a pizza.

Remember when the Bucs got torched before the cornerbacks combination of Sterling Moore and Hey Jude clicked?

Yeah, when the Bucs were letting opposing receivers run free like reindeer in Alaska.

Well, the Bucs defense today? Same as the old defense.

Instead of Mike Jenkins getting roasted like a Thanksgiving turkey, today it was Moore, in particular. Old man Matt Hasselbeck just picked apart the Bucs defense like guys at a turkey shoot. They were open all afternoon long.

As fantastic as the Bucs were against the run (27 yards on 26 carries) there were equally rancid against the pass. Hasselbeck made the Hoosiers forget about Andrew Luck, as he passed for a Luck-like 315 yards and two touchdowns.

Yes, the Bucs are still in a wild card hunt at 5-6, but will need to win no less than three of their final five games. This hurt. This was a winnable game without Luck. This was a winnable game before linebacker Kwon Alexander likely begins serving his four-game suspension.

Yes, this hurt, but the Bucs will have no prayer of a playoff game unless they start learning how to cover a freaking receiver once in a blue moon!

Can’t rush four and we can’t cover when we blitz. DE’s and Corners this draft please?

With almost no pressure from the DL at any time, the Bucs secondary was exposed as a very ordinary unit. I place 80% of the Colts’ passing success at the feet of the DL.

did you honestly believe moore and abdj were the answer for this team??? c’mon youre better than that…

Against backup horrible qbs the cbs looked good. Against a experienced and I mean experienced QB they showed how bad this scheme and coordinator is

The CBs we have out there were exposed today. They should be special teams players providing depth. Not starting! DE and CBs in the next draft are needed!

We def need a corner but this game was on the dline. Hope the best player available when we draft is an end cause my goodness.
And Hasselbeck is no scrub. The guys seen it all.

A lot of false hope and bravado built on a lucky win vs. Dallas and a Sanchez led Eagles team that proved they quit by laying down to Detroit on Thanksgiving. The pass defense is miserable and the run defense is overrated because teams with any kind of QB shreds the secondary. Why run when it’s pitch & catch?!

If you view the hurries/hits/sacks stats you’ll see that we did get pressure on Hasslebeck. He is in his 17th season…11 of them as a starter…he has seen it all!!! He got rid of the ball in a hurry..#3 did not. Hasselbeck threw it away when he should yet he still got sacked 3 times…#3 got sacked 5X but at least two of those were on him because unlike Hasselbeck he does not yet have the experience to throw it away or make a hot read and get rid of it when he senses a certain defensive alignment.

In short our rookie was not as experienced as a 17 year vet. As Gomer used to say suuurrrprise….suuurprise…suuurrprise. This should not be a shock nor is it time for everybody to bail off the bandwagon. Then again go ahead there’ll be more room for me and Buc Bonzai.

The Colts are now riding a four game win streak…they’ve won 11 in a row the past three years…they are a good team. We’re not quite there yet. But #3 continues to grow. If we had held the ball longer instead of those 3 and outs to start the 2nd half that would have been a HUGE help. But we didn’t.

If you really must worry I suggest perhaps #13’s hands and Connor Barth’s kicking. How high will the FSU kid go in the draft…I’d love to have him.

On the consecutive deep passes to Moore’s side, he was in Cover 2 and planning on having McDougald help over the top. Easy to move the safety over when you have 8 seconds to throw it. I wouldn’t call it a fail on either one of them as much as a failure of play calling and D Line pressure. Can’t get burned the same way on back to back plays.

I dont care if we gave up this entire draft to get Bosa, we need a pass rush in the worst way.
