I don’t get it. I mean it doesn’t make any sense. Why are people so scared to draft a QB? They use the excuse that its a “gamble”. I’m not sure if they’re aware of this but it’s a gamble when you draft any position, not just QB. If you don’t wanna draft a QB cause they might be a bust, then don’t draft any position. Such stupid logic. Draft until you get your guy, you get to try again every year.
Why stick with a guy thats been released by 3 other teams instead of using a draft pick? Even if the draft doesn’t work out, it costs less than vet QBs and you can try again using another pick.
Mentioning Baker and Lamar in the same sentence is laughable. Lamar threw 41 td, 4 ints and 4100 yds but Joe calls that overrated. The same Joe that sees Baker here next year. This is the mediocrity in talking about. Too many “fans” with low expectations wanting to play it safe because they’re scared of failing. When the Bucs won both chips they took big risks and swung for the fences.
Hopefully we’ll see that again someday soon.

Both Joes see Mayfield here next year. One of the Joes is very, very, very much on the fence about Mayfield after last year’s collapse and is in zero rush to re-sign Mayfield.
Not scared of drafting a quarterback at all. In fact, if you listen again to the pod, the Joe who is hesitant about re-signing Mayfield *regularly* mentions the quarterbacks in the draft that are expected to come out in April.
Everything Joe knows and hears, one way or another, Joe believes Mayfield will be the Bucs quarterback in 2027.
Wanting/not wanting a quarterback and analyzing a likely outcome based on knowledge of the situation are two very different things.
Joe’s last name is not “Glazer,” “Licht” or “Bowles.”

Joe, you see the details on this deal Mahomes just signed with KC?
June 10th, 2026 at 6:39 pm
There has only been maybe, just a couple of ‘Quarterbacks’ to sign true 5-year deals AFTER turning 30 years old, in NFL history, And, there is a VERY good reason for this. Russell Wilson (twice), Tom Brady, & Jimmy G. None of them were anywhere near the total dollar amount of what BAKER is seeking, either. Except for Wilson’s last one in Denver… Now, was THAT what “you” would call a SMART move!? Yah, I don’t think so. And, as for Brady… His deals were ALWAYS, extremely ’team friendly’ and waaaayyy BELOW market value. Mahomes’s recent extension was really not a “true” extension from scratch… It was just reworked, since both sides reached a longterm “agreement” several years ago. AND, he is “MAHOMES.” And, he is NOT 31 yet, either. Baker is “BAKER.” And, HE IS 31. There is ZERO reason for the Bucs to risk committing LONGTERM to BAKER, at max-level $$$$. Cause, that would be SO absurd on just SO MANY levels. Especially, given that the very MOST they could even possibly be ‘outta pocket’ over these next 3-SEASONS for Baker, would only be about $140-MILLION and some change (this season + 2-tags). TOPS. There is no reason for any extension from the Bucs position. Nothing that is over 3-years and $130-135 MILLION + some incentives for making and winning the Super Bowl, and League MVP. But, THAT’S IT. I mean, WHY would you other than just to be able to ‘manipulate’ the cap!?

Just look at the results last year down the stretch. 2-7. That sucks.
You don’t gamble big money long term on a QB that can’t win a garbage division.
And he’s 1-9 in prime time games. That’s what he is, a loser.
Let him go elsewhere and get big money to fail miserably.
We can do just as good or better with a rookie QB. Especially if they fire Bowles.

There is no “rule” stating that we HAVE TO draft (in the 1st-Round), OR PLAY a ‘rookie’ Quarterback for the 2027 season, if we DON’T extend Baker AND he leaves elsewhere. There will be ‘other’ options available on the FA-market on the CHEAP. Which, would be perfect for a team ‘rebuilding’ with a brand new HC and GM. The very last thing you’d want to do is to DRAFT your young ‘franchise’ QB of the future, then just throwing HIM to the dogs and RUINING HIM. While, WASTING his ‘rookie’ contract. Build. The. Roster. FIRST. If I’m drafting #2-#4 in 2027, I’m taking Jeremiah FREAKING SMITH. All. Day. LONG. There are waaaayyy too many ‘ELITE-level’ prospects at other important positions in this upcoming draft, to WASTE ‘reaching’ on a frggin’ QB. Especially, with a depleted roster from pre trade deadline moves.
June 10th, 2026 at 7:21 pm
You can build your roster with a cheap “bridge” QB, then make your (very calculated) move, by POUNCING on your 1st-Round (‘rookie’ contract) QB in either 2028 or 2029… Using all of your remaining built up Draft Capital from THIS season’s trade-deadline and various other moves, in order to move-up. And, who knows… Maybe, your “bridge” morphed into Sam Darnold, and ends up having a GREAT relationship with your new modern day young STUD ‘offensive’ genius HC. And, THEN you don’t even have to worry about DRAFTING ONE, for awhile. So, everybody needs to just CHILL. There is NO rush. You let the season ‘play-out’ FIRST, and be SMART. Committing to BAKER of or the next 6-SEASONS is just absurd talk. It’s Delusional. Reckless. And, NOT caring about the Bucs Future FIRST. You’re only worried about YOUR OWN very weird “adult” fantasyland FEELINGS, towards a frigging ‘professional’ ATHLETE. Just Weird.

Who has the highest playoff passer rating of ALL active QB’s? (Dov Kleiman tweet)
Baker 105.9, 2-3 W/L
Mahomes 105.4, 17-4
Allen 101.5, 8-7
Stafford 100.4, 7-6
Rodgers 98.1, 11-11
Lawrence, Jackson and Herbert near the bottom

Beej:
Dov didn’t cut and paste correctly. Saint Lamar Jackson has the highest quarterback rating for this shiite stat.
Read this and week, all-time career passer ratings.
This is all you need to know why Joe thinks that stat is completely worthless except to Joe Buck.
