Eli Manning discusses America’s Quarterback.

Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning spent a few minutes talking via conference call to the Tampa Bay pen and mic club in advance of Sunday’s showdown between his Giants and the Bucs at the Den of Depression.

Joe asked Manning if he had every crossed paths with America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, and what his impressions were.

Manning noted the two rubbed elbows when Jameis worked as an instructor at the famous Manning Passing Academy camp. The way Manning recalled it, Jameis is exactly the same guy who has won over the locker room of the Bucs.

“I met Jameis. He came to the Manning Passing Academy when he was in college, when he was at Florida State,” Manning said. “I met him there. He seemed like a good kid, you know? A lot of energy. All the other college guys enjoyed him and the high school kids he was coaching appreciated him because he was always smiling and upbeat and working hard.”

Now that sounds exactly like the guy on the Bucs’ roster now, a tireless worker, a football junkie who always seems to have a smile on his face and is always supporting his teammates.

In short, that is Jameis.

Manning has been watching from Gotham. Given the two are quarterbacks, Manning said has paid attention to Jameis’ first seven games and likes what he sees.

“I’ve been impressed with how he has been playing, as a rookie and taking [in] everything,” Manning said. “[Jameis] has done a good job.”

  2. Newbucsfan Says:

The Bucs will lose badly if the defense doesn’t step up in a big way. Jameis is throwing to evans and a bunch of scrubs and everybody in Tampa expects a win or else. Eli is throwing to his starters minus cruz, asj better show up for the Bucs. Enjoy Jameis maturation process as well as this offense this season or you will be sorely disappointed.

  3. Newbucsfan Says:

record the game and go out and have a good time with the family on sunday. That way you can either erase the game if you hear of a Bucs loo or watch if you hear of a win, no stress.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

Not a fan of the Manning’s, Peyton or Archie. Eli is OK though. Pressure and sack him Bucs, he’ll get flustered. Pickoff city ensues.

  5. Lovies Basement Says:

Really need the defense to step up on this one…

We all owe Eli a debt of gratitude for stop 19-0 and Pats fans being even more annoying massholes than they already are. Thanks Eli.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s time for one of the scrubs to step up…….Didn’t hear Dye’s name even though he got plenty of snaps…..surely Humphries can get open…

Look for a big game from one of them.

AIN’T THAT THE TRUTH!! Forever greatful!

It’s going to be a loss for the Bucs, barring a miracle.

I just hope it isn’t an ugly loss. This has the potential to become our next wipe out.

On the topic of the game…

Greg Spence should start instead of Tony McDaniel. Spence has double the sacks over the last 3 years and is a great run stopper. He’s only 23, so the more experience he gets the better he’ll become.

Right now, Tony is slotted to start.

  10. Newbucsfan Says:

Another huge smile on my face:) give him a year.,,he’ll rule the nfl! Wait for it!

  11. Newbucsfan Says:

But for now..,rule the Gaints!! Go Bucs!

  12. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I don’t personally know if there is an answer on the team at the WR position. Evans, obviously, is great.

Humphries, Dye, etc…I hate to break it to everyone, but they are not good starting WRs. Rotational backups at best.

We need help if we don’t want the offense to stall and Winston’s growth to be stunted.

Not sure who is available. Too late for any trades.

“…everybody in Tampa expects a win or else.”

Not everyone. Some are realistic. While I won’t rule out an upset, I don’t think it is likely. The giants always seem to have our number.

I’ll be happy with no injuries and not losing ugly.

ASJ doing well would certainly be a bonus, if he plays. Mostly…I don’t want Evans hurt worse.

    Akeem Spence, right?

Bonzai… So that’s a loss coming eh. Medic!

I’ll definitely have to change my name. No offense NBF

    Blaaa. Win Bucs Win.

McCoy go out there and show this Fan Base you Respect being a Top Player for this city..Sack Eli and show some excitement…

    DAVID STEP UP!!!!

Prediction: Humphries has 100 yards and a TD

  19. godzilla13 Says:

Manning threw six TD passes last week and leads the NFL in TD passes. The only way we win is with the running game. Giants have struggled covering TE and RB on screen plays. Look for Charles Sims to have a big day. When lining up from under center, the Giants run the ball 78 percent of the time, which is almost the inverse of their shotgun snaps, where they run it a little less than 20 percent of the time. Hope Lovie picks up on that and game plans for it. Mike Evans will have to go up against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at times which will make it tough. Winston needs to have another good game. Bucs win in a close one again.

  21. HarlemBuc Says:

Guys you should see the coverage up here!!! Jameis has the Midgets fan base shaking in their boots, we are in the paper every day… Great week to be a bucs fan in NY! It will be even better to see our team rise to .500 and to ruin the Midgets season!!!!
    Let the cannons go!!!!

  22. Newbucsfan Says:

Glad someone has coverage. Hopefully, Tampa is getting loads of coverage because I get zilch where I live. Very annoying! I want to throw something at national coverage. Good example, just happened as I’m typing this. On NFL total access, the question was who’s the best rookie this year. OMG, one guess who was not even listed out of the five names mentioned?? Yes, our JW! I’m serous about the need to throw something…Grrrrr

  23. HarlemBuc Says:

@Newbuc it was the same here until we landed the Midgets on the schedule… This game should go a long way towards providing us some relevance

  24. Newbucsfan Says:

Currently Fox Sports seems to be the only one to really cover us to any great extent, and thankfully, rather positively. Some good JW coverage on the net by them. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but it’s probably due to fact that they primarily cover our games. Give it time I guess.

  25. Matt Says:

Ha newbucsfan is confused. However you are correct about most of the WRs now being scrubs off the street . Besides Mike Evans and ASJ we don’t have a lot of receiving power now . What made me laugh was how you interpreted that the Giants are just missing Cruz lol . Like really all they got is Beckham lol. So they’re in just as bad a shape as Tb . Ha . They’re RBs aren’t as good as tampas and they don’t have that much greater of a QB . Manning is aging and him and his brother will soon be gone and out of the NFL . Winston is gonna be the new superstar QB of the league . He’s a winner people like watching him play. Regardless Tbs offense is better this years than the Giants . The Giants have Tampa beat on one thing and that’s coaching . This year both teams defense has sucked so expect a shootout . Another 30 point game for Tampa and another 30 point game for New York .
