Paging Jacquies Smith

What happened to DE Jacquies Smith?

What happened to DE Jacquies Smith?

If the Bucs hope to beat the Dixie Chicks Sunday, every member of that smelly Lovie Smith defense needs to raise his game. Big time.

Otherwise, Matty Ice will slice them apart. Big time.

When the Bucs beat the Saints on the road for their first division win in over a year, and the first under Lovie, defensive end Jacquies Smith went wild, sacking Drew Brees three times and bolting up the charts of the NFL’s sack leaders to the very top with four.

Since, Smith has been so invisible, Joe was told there was an Amber Alert issued for him. He did show up against the Redskins with a sack but since that New Orleans win, Smith has nine tackles and one sack — in four games!

It seems Xs and Os guru Max Luchan of CBS Sports has noticed Smith’s vanishing act, noting Smith has “really regressed.”

Is it regression, or the fact he had three sacks on Brees made him a target of opposing offensive coaches? Could it be opponents have figured Smith out? Are offenses scheming to take Smith out of plays?

Generally, that is what happens. A guy rises, puts himself on tape, and opponents figure out a way to slow him down.

Or in the case of Smith, make him disappear.

He only has one move – outside speed rush.

  2. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Wow. Scheming to take Smith AND McCoy out?

  3. DefenseRules Says:

Jack Smith looks to be another one-trick pony. Tackles have now learned his move, and he consistently gets pushed deep as he tries his speed rush. Has given up too many plays around his end from what I’ve seen (12 tackles in 6 games seems low for a DE, but then again he’s got more than Gholston and Johnson). As a situational-rusher he could probably do OK, but that’s about it. Bottom line: Bucs need to pick up at least 2 quality DEs … either FAs or through the draft … this off-season if this defense is to have a chance to be competitive.

It’s lovies fault I’m sure lol. It’s all lovies fault that he can’t plug every single hole on a mostly talentless team in 2 whole drafts and picking from free agents that suck but not as much as what was here before him lol. Idiots.

  5. Pasco Jim Says:

Lovie picked the players… so yes it his fault.
he picked FAs last year and they failed too.
    fire lovie now

  6. Espo Says:

I’m worried he may be a situational player only, not for for an entire season playing the majority of snaps.

  7. Tom Edrington Says:

A few weeks ago everyone, Joe(s) included, were raving about this guy…..it’s simply inconsistency……would like to see how the entire D would do with proper coaching….

If you’re not drafting defensive players your only left with 2 options. 1.) Keep the bad players that you already have on your roster until you can replace them in the draft or 2.) Go out in free agency and pick up rejects from other teams with the hope that they’re at least better than the bad players that are currently on the roster.

  9. ndog Says:

So if he is a focus of offensives shouldn’t McCoy be free to do more, but nothing……

  10. "The kevin" Says:

    @pasco

You obviously can’t read very well. I said he had to bring in free agents that suck but not as bad as what was already on the roster stupid.

You idiots expect a talentless team to be fixed in 2 drafts and picking from reject free agents. The offense was in shambles which is way they went offense in the drafts. Now the offense looks decent and they will address the defense in the drafts now. And things will slowly get better. My god most of you are complete idiots and shouldn’t even be allowed to watch football. Go rub your women’s feet and cook dinner instead.

I didn’t want to put any extra sacks on the board!
    – Lovie Smith

  12. LJ'sDaddy Says:

I fear that the Failclowns will administer another (as Joe says) “seal clubbing ” to us this Sunday. Our secondary is junk.

  13. Bucsfaninchina Says:

Amber alert, Joe? Maybe you should stick to the more tasteful jokes about Gaines Adams

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Whatever happened to George Johnson?????

  15. Arealbucsfan Says:

This off season will be all about defense. I say give Lovie one more to fortify the D and then we’ll see if he should be fired

  16. godzilla13 Says:

Here we go again. Jacques Smith, now known as the “invisible man” is a “one trick pony”, “one move – outside speed rush” and has “really regressed.” I have said it before and I will say it again. When the opposing QB takes a two step drop and throws dinks and dunks to receivers on slant or dart routes, the defensive line has under 2.5 seconds to get to the QB. Until we get the secondary fixed or simply employ some bump and run, ain’t nobody getting any sacks.
