Raheem Morris’ Comments Fueled 49ers

October 11th, 2011

Frank Gore got revenge on the Bucs.

The way the 49ers beat down the Bucs Sunday, it was as if they were avenging a personal affront.

In a way, they were.

Partly with the memory of the Bucs shutting out the Niners last year and partly remembering Bucs coach Raheem Morris’ words, the 49ers had ample ammunition to chain-whip the Bucs yesterday, per Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

It seems Morris calling the Bucs “West Coast Killers” didn’t go over so well on the west coast.

“It came up a little bit,” said 49ers safety Dashon Goldson. “They called themselves the West Coast Killers, they came into our home, and we had to defend our turf (against) the West Coast Killers.”

If the Buccaneers pushed the 49ers around last year, San Francisco more than returned the favor this year.

The 49ers held Tampa Bay, which relies on its ground game, to 86 rushing yards and three points. The defense sacked Freeman twice and forced three turnovers, one of them a fumble that occurred at the end of the third quarter when Goldson leveled wide receiver Mike Williams after an eight-yard reception.

Later in the same article, Niners running back Frank Gore believed it wasn’t so much Morris’ words, but Morris’ team’s actions last year in smothering the Niners that had San Francisco licking their chops to get back at the Bucs.

Joe thinks its cool when coaches are outspoken. As cool as it is, sometimes the words come back to bite. Painfully so.

Morris needs to STFU and coach! This making up of words and playing to the media is GARBAGE! Perhaps another tailwhipping like the one he just got will knock that perpetual smirk off his face!

  2. McBuc Says:

Nah, I have to agree with Gore, they wanted revenge for the shut out…and they are a much better team this year than last year. Smith has been playing much better, which makes the entiore team better. Just l;like when Free is playing better the Bucs are much better. All this he said she said is just for the fans and writers.

  3. Meh Says:

This game was a total coaching failure. Playcalling so predictable that SF was jumping plays at the snap. Defensive schemes exploited consistently. Undisciplined penalties including Rah losing his cool.

  4. Meh Says:

Although I admit that the 4th and 2 fade wasn’t predictable, merely stupid.

  5. OB Says:

Joe, a complete breakdown tike this only happens when teams are surprised and overwhelmed without hope of getting them. I think the basic problem is that they saw how Josh Freeman has been playing and decided that they could never catch them so they played but not at their best. You can say play selection was bad, and defensive people were out of position, but the botton line is that Josh has not been the Josh of last year and the question is why? Is he hurt, over confident, has something bothering him, I don’t know but it is something and it needs to be found and addressed. Where were the LBs, they didn’t fill holes, where was the secondary? More important where were our receivers, they can’t get open, put in new ones and let them try. Something is wrong there also, every other teams receivers are open but ours are not, why?

Can’t wait for the Saints to see what happens. I sure hope some of the players that are not playing correctly are benched, this will lite the fire.

  6. McBuc Says:

Think about the sophmore slump. Matt Ryan had a bad year his second year, and this really is Free’s second year. The Bucs are a young team, so the assinine lockout hurt them. The ship will righten, but it is not time to panic over Freeman.

  7. Snook Says:

This Sunday’s game is going to be “yugly.” A real HC coach, Harbaugh, exposed the Bucs last week. Another real HC, Sean Peyton, will do nothing but expand on that — especially against our banged up defense led by our overmatched DC. I expect Sproles, Thomas and Ingram to be running all over the place.

Unfortunately, Raheem is going to much like his hero Jon Gruden – bad season followed by a good season followed by another bad season. Until the Glazers figure it out…

  8. West Coast Killa. Says:

So it’s cool for Coach to come up with the West Coast Killers moniker after shutting out the Niners, but he gets all salty when Vernon asks Ronde and the Bucs to play harder the game after? What a tool.

  9. Bucs4life Says:

    @Snook

You recognize that Raheem is 2-2 against that “real HC,” Sean Payton. What the fck is a real HC Coach? A head coach coach??

The fact remains the Bucs are 3-2 and have an opportunity to take the division lead (based on division wins) this weekend, at home, against the Saints. They’re a young team that’s capable of laying the occasional egg (see Steelers and Saints last year). Show some faith and support a team with a winning record, for God’s sake.

A real head coach is a head coach who has a disciplined team who doesn’t just rely on talent (which the Bucs have). Josh Freeman willed this team to 10 wins last year. That doesn’t last forever. Without Freeman, the Bucs were lucky to be 4-12 last year.

Notice how the 49ers knew exactly what the Bucs were doing ALL game? That’s coaching. Ever seen Raheem do that? Ever seen a good coached team lead the league in penalties? I haven’t.

I support this team. But when I see the same mistakes WEEK AFTER WEEK AFTER WEEK, it gets old. This team is no different than last year. Slow starts. Boring, predictable offense. Nothing changes. Only difference is that Freeman was able to bail Raheem out. This year, its different.

We’ll see about Sunday. Raheem is 0-2 against Peyton in Tampa. And my money is on 0-3. You really think Raheem is smart enough to correct this team’s mistakes and beat the Saints? You call that “faith”? I call it being REALISTIC.

  11. Snook Says:

“This game was a total coaching failure. Playcalling so predictable that SF was jumping plays at the snap. Defensive schemes exploited consistently. Undisciplined penalties including Rah losing his cool.”

Meh has is right. I don’t know why some Bucs fans can’t see the obvious. Its nothing personal against Raheem.

I’m sick of this “have faith” and “support the team” crap. Last week’s game wasn’t an anomaly. It was just culmination of bad coaching. The 49ers did a great job watching game tape. That’s all you have to do to beat the Bucs. They’re SOOOOOO predictable that its sad.

  12. Eric Says:

There is absolutely no reason to believe the bucs can beat the Saints this week.

Which is precisely why I think they will. It is in Rah’s DNA to do the unexpected.

As to coaches remarks and locker room quotes and whatnot. I agree with Coach Bowden, that stuff usually lasts until after the first play in the ballgame.

  13. gotbbucs Says:

until the running game takes off freeman is going to look like this. db’s can sit back there and read freeman’s eyes all day long when they know they have no run responsibilities. blount is the catalyst for this offense.

  14. stanglassman Says:

Real is usually code for “White”.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

“Week after week” snook, you mean the week after we whopped Atlanta? Or the week after we beat The Vikings? Or the three straight wins before the loss to The Niners? Snook, I think the problem yer seeing is” attention defiency”. Ya can’t remember more than one week at a Time!

You lucky dog. Got some stuff if love ta forget

  16. snook Says:

Whooped Atlanta? You mean the inferior team we let hang around all game? Like the Colts?

If a 3 point victory is a whooping, then what is a 45 point loss?

The bucs haven’t whooped anyone. They barely beat 3 teams with a combined 3 wins!

  17. snook Says:

    @stanglassman:

Nope. Mike Tomlin is a real head coach. What color is he?

Raheem is just a safety from Hofstra.

  18. Architek Says:

This is a lame thread anyway. Snook is right, Raheem is showing his green and hopefully he learned his lesson. He’s too friendly with the media anyway. He was feeling himself too. I would have used the quotes too as bulletin board material. Tampa is what they are. So no need to get worked up. Elementary schemes and young player going against seasoned coaches. I-formations don’t work Raheem and Olden.

  19. snook Says:

Raheem is already behind the 8 ball going into Sunday. He’s got to correct all of the mistakes from Sundays game AND prepare for the best team in the division.

If he succeeds, I’ll give him all the credit. If not, its just more of the same whining from Raheem sympathizers.

  20. Capt.Tim Says:

Snook- “Barely beat””??? What the F%*k is a “barely Beat”? Is Wins, Loses, and ties. Period

Barely beats is for the Thomases of the world- and you ain’t that guy!
We’ve won 3 games. We’ve lost 2. If we beat The Saints next weekend, you won’t even remember the niners game.

    It’ll be all right.

  21. Bobby Says:

Snook, you truly are a child aren’t you? Why are you posting instead of doing homework? Listen, this team is way ahead of schedule as far as I’m concerned. Rebuilding is not an instant gratification process. We started winning our second year into it. That is amazing. We are starting so many rookies and second year players that we should be 0-5 and here we sit at 3-2 with a chance to tie for the division lead this Sunday. You wouldn’t know a real coach if one changed your diaper… moron.

  22. Meh Says:

I said THIS GAME was a coaching disaster. I am not off the Raheem bandwagon in general. He had 10 wins last year, and has a winning record this year (even if it is ugly). Way too soon to be bailing on him, but he absolutely has some work to do.

  23. mikeck Says:

I rememebr the Bucs being dismantled by the Raiders back in 2000 (or 2001?) by a similar score…was that because Tony Dungy was a horrible head coach but the Raiders had a “real head coach” (Chucky…)

..orrrrr was it because sometimes, teams just get beat bad. We are not a great team yet. We dont have a Calvin Johnson to bail out Josh Freeman. We dont have an Revis that lets us shut down the receiver of our choice.. We will get there.

  24. McBuc Says:

Snook…The bBucs received an old fasion butt kicken, but the Steelers with the “real HC” Tomlin are also 3 – 2. They also received an old fasion butt kicken by the Ravens. They also barely beat the Cults. The Eagles are 1 – 4, there “real HC” Reid has about as much experience as any coach in the league. Would you call the HC of of the NY Jets “real”? Sometimes teams loose big, it is how the react that will define them. It will be real bad news if McCoy and Blount are not playing this week.

  25. Snook Says:

@ Bobby: People have to resort to name calling when they don’t know what they’re talking about.

This team is 3-2 because they’ve beaten the Colts, Falcons, and Vikings. Teams with a combined THREE wins. Just like last year… beating the lowly teams and having to do so with 4th quarter comebacks because they play like crap for 3 quarters. But when playing good teams (Lions and 49ers – combined NINE wins), they’re over-matched. Why is this so hard to figure out? Simple quiz for you… Saints coming in this weekend. 4-1 record. Win or loss for the Bucs?

I’m going with an EDUCATED guess and saying loss. Until Raheem’s undisciplined team proves me wrong, you and the rest of the Morris sympathizers can shut your pie holes.

I’ll be back on Sunday after the game to hear all of your excuses. This team is regressing. I’m guessing you’ll go with the easy “injury” excuse. That’s an easy one for you casual fans.

    Really? You are really dense.

Tomlin: Has won a Super Bowl
Rex Ryan: 2 AFC Championship games in the last 2 years
Andy Reid: Countless DIVISION titles, NFC championship games, etc.

Those guys ARE “real” head coaches. Their track record proves it.

Raheem’s track record shows he played safety at Hofstra, was DC at K-State for one year (one of the worst defenses in Div-1A that year), and has beaten up on a bunch of under .500 teams since he’s been in the NFL.

    Coach… Less talky, more coachy.
