McCoy “Week-To-Week;” Unsure On Blount

October 10th, 2011

Speaking moments ago, Raheem Morris said the Gerald McCoy was “playing lights out” yesterday before he hurt his ankle and hobbled off the field. And Raheem said McCoy is now considered week-to-week and could play Sunday.

Raheem said he’ll have more medical information on McCoy tomorrow.

Defensive end George Johnson has been promoted from the practice squad, Raheem said, to provide more depth while the Bucs expect to give Da’Quan Bowers more time inside on the D-line if McCoy is out Sunday.

Look for Frank Okam to be the starting 3-technique if McCoy is out, a role Okam filled last year in McCoy’s absence.

As for banged up LeGarrette Blount, Raheem said there is no update on his injury status.

Joe, who did the Bucs release if they promoted George Johnson?

  2. bucfanjeff Says:

I think McCoy will be out and this is coach speak for ‘we can’t tell the Saints mccoy will be out’ – actually, I’ll be surprised if we see him the next two weeks at all. He’ll be back after the bye – you heard it here first.

  3. aj Says:

Probably one of the two tight ends, Franklin or what’s his name.

  4. Dave Says:

Bad news. The way Is ee it those were the ONLY two playing good in SF. I get the “next man up” thing, but they absolutely need those two.

As far as the Bucs, I think we have a few answers on some things:

    1. They desparately need a speed guy on offense. Whether it is a a WR (Gant?) or a RB to compliment Blount or both.

    2. Freeman’s decision making has definately regressed some to start the season.

    3. The D-Line is going to be fine as they gain experience.

    4. It is starting to become apparante that Talib is real good, but not elite and not even great. I think Raheem and Talib think he is better than he is.

    5. They need another DB and need to take a serious look a TJax if/when he is reinstated.

    6. Other than Foster, the LB crew is pretty inconsistent. Hayes and Watson and dissappear and Black is average at best. They need 3 Foster’s.

I guess I just laid out a draft plan in no particluar order:
Offensive speed, DB, LB and , as always, O-line depth.

  5. Thomas 2.2 Says:

He was playing lights out alright – like he was playing in the dark and couldn’t see where he was going. He did play well in one game against 3rd string colts linemen.

I predicted that the team would not commit to any short or long absence bc they constantly try to spin the public impression of McCoy. They don’t want their baby to be labeled injury-prone especially when Suh hasn’t missed a play due to injury, remember the combine knock on Gerald was that he was weak and soft.

McCoy will miss games but the Bucs will try to stroke this thing out as long as possible to cover for baby-Gerald.

The good news, the pass rush just got considerably better with Frank and Prce playing side-by-side. Mccoy’s 4 career sacks in nearly a year and a half surely wasn’t worrying Brees.

What is the over/under on career sacks after 2 seasons for Baby-Gerald? 6 maybe- I’ll take the under. Even if they force him back early baby-Gerald becomes completely useless if not 100% bc he is purely a 1 dimensional gap jumper, if he loses his get off he becomes the worst d tackle in the league.

  6. flmike Says:

@Thomas2.2 I’m trying to figure out this hatred you have for McCoy, I’m guessing he banged your woman and now every time you try she says “Is that all there is?”

  7. bucfanjeff Says:

Suh and Mccoy stats this year thus far are just about dead even…just sayin.

  8. Oahubuc Says:

Thomas: I think we also should have drafted Stafford. The Glazers don’t care about us. It’s not fair.

  9. thibs5599 Says:

Stafford? the guy has only played like 10 games in three seasons, freeman played great last year and besides yesterday has been great in the 4th quarter. Im pretty sure if freeman had calvin to throw the ball to he wouldnt be slumping so bad. how many times have our wr dropped the ball (MIKE WILLIAMS) . i really like all of our guys but people arent helping freeman out either its not like hes out there playng with a bunch of all pros. where is kellen winslow at also hes suppose to be a leader and yada yada, look at all the other tight ends in the nfl putting up wr stats winslow is capable of that and hes our best wr yet has done nothing

  10. Bobby Says:

Thomas 2.2 is entertaining. You have to work really hard to post things that ignorant. I’m kind of agreeing with flmike on possible explanations…..

  11. eric Says:

Well if Rah can pull this game off with no Gerald or Blount that will be one heck of a good piece of coaching.

The man is so oblivious he might just do it.

  12. Kryq Says:

Hmm Devin Holland has been placed on IR, So that means Ahmad Black should be promoted.

  13. Dave Says:

If Thomas seriously thinks McCoy, the Bucs best & most consistent D-Lineman so far this year, is horrible and can’t play, then we should ignore him from this day foward.

He is obviously completely clueless about football and does not desere a response. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I fogot more about football by the time I left high school than he will ever know.

Then ERIC chimes in with a slpa to Raheem. I think his only goal is to say something stupid to get a reaction. These type of people online are really annoying and add nothing to the conversation.

My guess is that is how they are in real life too

  14. toolman Says:

Why doesn’t a guy with Lorig’s size get to run the ball some?
Or better yet, give Okam the ball on short yardage (it worked for the Fridge)…it wouldn’t be long before their defense was worn down. Just saying.

  15. eric Says:

I was complimenting Raheem. Oblivious, in the endearing sense.

  16. Mauha Deeb Says:

Price and Okam looked awful last week. How in the world could you think either is an improvement?

  17. Mauha Deeb Says:

McCoy has consistently been one of the better run stuffing DTs since his last 4 games last year. This year he was been one of the best at it. Of course, Thomas doesn’t give him any credit for that. Suh has been one of the worst in run defense so far this year yet he raves about the guy non stop like he is the best DT in the league. McCoy can rush well and run stuff with the best. He is one of the most complete DL in the league right now(that’s right Thomas, I said right now so don’t try and use stats from last year to boost Suh).

Look I like Suh, the man is quit possibly the best pass rushing DT in the league(between him and Jenkins who is having his best year yet). But his efforts in the pass rush are compromised by his terrible play against the run. He is actually getting worse as the season goes on in that area.

  18. Mauha Deeb Says:

I would take McCoy over Suh so far this year in a heart beat. Well, at least before he was injured. If the guy can’t stay healthy he is no good for us.

  19. thibs5599 Says:

what is wrong with blount anyway guys, i saw that it was a knee injury? anything serious because if it is our offense is toast

  20. Burg Says:

Don’t think Blount is really hurt, After he took that good clip hit they took him out as a precaution since the game was over anyway, as far as I could tell the trainers didn’t swarm him nor did he go into the locker room,
I think this may be some gamesmanship to get NO to game plan for Offense without Blount.

  21. Hunter Says:

@lightningbuc: If I recall, we released Colin Franklin, and Raheem tipped his hand by saying “hopefully we can get him back.”

  22. thibs5599 Says:

hope your right burg…i would like to see a little bit more of lumpkin instead of graham, he brings a lil more speed and is a bit younger wouldnt mind seeing if he can compliment blount a little bit better

  23. SteveK Says:

We need to get it together now.

Freeman should be fined for each checkdown he completes next game. I’m tired of excuses, “our best WR is doulble covered”, or “no one else was open”.

@ Reejus, stay in bounds, knucklehead.

@ Freeman, it’s ok, your slumping, but for the love of god son use your rocket arm on some deep ball try’s, maybe we can get a pass interference call?

@ Olson, get it together, your playcalling is flat and the players are playing flat becuS there is nothing exciting about ear eat Graham checkdown football. Run Blount more than10 first half carries, knucklehead, or else you will end up looking for work.

@ Rah, enough with the penalties, we are heavily penalized, and you have two penalties so far this year. So, read your rule book, and keep your mouth shut on the sideline and take your whooping like a man.

@Glazers sell the darn team if you dot San to invest in them. Please sign DeSean Jackson this offseason.

@ fellow fans, we gotta keep on believing and it will get better.

@ GMC get well soon, we need you ou there because of your skill, and your hefty #3 overall draft status. We are paying you way too much to have you keep getting riddled by injury ( I know it’s not your fault, but I’m pissed off about the loss). Also, look to Brian Price for toughness, he’s got enough for to and all 11 of you on D.

  24. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Franklin was released and is not yet listed on the PS. In fact, all six PS roster spots are currently filled. Someone will have to be dropped when he clears waivers and is available to be signed back to the PS again. If Raheem really does want to keep him. Guess we’re down to Winslow and Pianalto if Stocker can’t go.

  25. gotbbucs Says:

thomas, there is no possible way you could have watched the 9ers game. price is a two down player at this point and okam is just a giant plug in a hole. i’ll give him credit for pursuing plays down field though.

  26. macabee Says:

Flboy, They moved George Johnson up from the PS leaving a spot if Franklin clears waivers. And I know you are aware that there are 8 PS slots. I assumed a typo!

  27. Fear The Glo Says:

Hey Joe can you call up Goodell on the bat phone and ask him what the deal is with Tanard?

Seriously is there any news on him? Its mysteriously quiet.

  28. Joe Says:

    Fear The Glo:

Geez. Joe wrote about this in detail yesterday. 🙁

  29. Fear The Glow Says:

Sorry Joe. This is a 364 day year for me. There was no “yesterday.” Sunday never happened. It was stricken from my memory. Never to be talked about or remembered again.

I actually wasn’t hoping for Tanard to come in and save the day but he was an above average safety and I find it really mysterious that absolutely nothing has been said about his status with the league. I was just wondering if you heard anything about him.

Maybe you should put a story up on the main page to let everyone know why there hasn’t been any news on the guy.

    LOL Understand. 🙂

  31. adam from ny Says:

rah forgot to tell the team at halftime to “flip the toast before it gets burned”

if we would have won yesterday, tuesday the media would be talking about the creme of the crop….the pack, lions, bills, and bucs….

go figure…we get blown out the batoosy like a cheap whore on pills and now shizniz is hitting the fizniz….

reality is this was one loss…weather we lost 24-23 or 48-3…at least we all knew the game was over midway through the 3rd and could regain focus on life as it is supposed to be lived….

funny what seemingly 1 loss can do to a team….now if we don’t respond with a “seriously serious” ball game on sunday vs. a very good saints team, not only will bucs fans be crying like pappa smurf, but the media devils will be yapping out their ball straps about a colapsing season at one buc place

seriously folks seriously ——– adam from ny
