Tim Tebow Loves Chucky

March 22nd, 2010

Chucky may not be loved by blocking icon Michael Clayton, Team Glazer or others within the Bucs community but it doesn’t matter.

Tim Tebow loves Chucky.

Speaking on Sirius NFL Radio’s “The Blitz” Monday with co-hosts Rich Gannon and Adam Schein, Tebow explained how Chucky recently took the former Florida quarterback under his wing for a day-long quarterback brainstorming session in Tampa recently.

Tebow could hardly contain his enthusiasm for the former Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach.

“I love coach Gruden,” Tebow said. “He was grinding me.”

No, Chucky didn’t pin him against the wall amid dance music more often heard at fashionable hotspots such as “The Venue.” Instead, Chucky put Tebow through the football ringer for a day.

“He had a tape of plays I made at Florida and he was asking me what I was doing in certain coverages, ‘What were you looking at here? What were you looking at there?’

“He had me going through formations and then quizzing me, putting me on the board, asking me, ‘How do you do this… What would you do with that?’

“It was a fun couple of hours.”

Tebow also said Chucky had tapes he cut just on southpaw NFL quarterbacks such as Mark Brunell and Steve Young, showing Tebow each quarterbacks’ positives and negatives, throwing motions, release points, footwork and more.

But classroom work wasn’t the only part of Tebow’s day with Chucky.

“When we were throwing the ball around, we were working on all sorts of drills such as footwork and throwing to different routes.

“To be able to work with a coach who has so much knowledge and to spend a day with him, it was an honor. Any time I get the opportunity to work with him, I’m going to do it.”

Chucky is a good coach but can be a asshole could not see Tebow and Gruden being caoch and player it would be al ot of have you lost your fuc*ing mind with Tebow’s responce God bless you lol

  2. bucfanjeff Says:

That’s great. Tebow can go play for him. Tim, let me know what it’s like when you miss your reads and end up eating puppy chow for a week.

  3. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Its amazing that Chucky has this Reputation. He just hates losing and isn’t happy when bad players miss plays. Their are alot more players that liked playing for Chucky then not. And the players that do were the ones that were dedicated to working and studying their craft.

  4. TJ Tillman Says:

@ Buc Realist I not trying to disagree but name a player that has steped up and defeanded him. Rice,Brown,Keyshawn, S.rice , sapp and Lynch were not happy the way they were treated when they were realeased. This in my opinoin is one of the main reasons he is not there. Allong with him not devolping and trusting young talent .

  5. Eric Says:

Above brain-dead remark brought to you courtesy of the mindless followers of the village idiot Steve Duemig, 620 WDEA, the sports numbinal.

Where 3-13 is actually better than 9-7.

  6. TJ Tillman Says:

by the way I liked Gruden as a coach just know that he was not liked by majority of the olayers that played for him. I beleive we would be alot better if he was still the coach.

  7. Eric Says:

    @TJ Tillman

Whoops I pulled the trigger too soon.

    Never mind……………

  8. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Rich Gannon, Josh Joshson, Antonio Bryant, Jeff Faine, Chris Hovan, I have heard Sapp say good things as well, Brooks, Barber, Bruce Gradkowski. Micheal Pittman. Roman Omen. just to name a few.

Try this though, how many players are happy the way they are treated when they are released or forced to retire?

My problem is that alot of people thought that Gruden was the reason the Bucs were falling apart. When it was a reduction of front office size and personal and lack of funds for players.

  9. d-money Says:

    TJ Tillman,

Lets take a look at the players you mentioned…

Gruden didn’t release Rice and Brown he left Oakland to coach in Tampa and Brown actually followed him here so I’d asy he must have liked him.

I haven’t heard Jerry Rice say anything negative about him other than being dissapointed in him leaving Oakland.

Simeon Rice was released and never really played again in the NFL so he doesn’t really have much to be upset about.

Sapp wasn’t released he just wasn’t resigned as a free agent for what he was asking so he signed with Oakland, and i’ve heard him say that he had respect for Gruden.

We are all upset with Lynch being released but i don’t remember him being upset or saying a word about how it was handled. I also don’t remember hearing him complain about Gruden while he was playing under him or about his coaching after they left.

And as we all know Keyshawn is and will always be a first class douche.

Basically the players who usually have a problem with Gruden are the ones who don’t live up to his high standards or have thin skin… IE blocking specialist Michael Clayton.

  10. Rich Says:

I completely agree with Eric! It is mind-numbing listening to Duemig explain away a 3-13 season. His chumminess (and seeming man-crush) with Raheem and Dominik is just plain disgusting and unprofessional. Oh well – he always has been a bit of a self-promoter … “well, the way Rah explained it to me when we were at the Venue in the VIP room drinking Cristal with Michael (see blocking dummy). Bah!! I’ve switched over to JP. Those of you who are true Buc fans should do the same. At least it is objective, and intelligent conversation.

  11. Rob Says:

It was Gruden’s drafting that left the Bucs where they are today. The Poor drafting led to a domino effect of band-aid players and no real stars to spend the money on.

  12. TJ Tillman Says:

@ Eric it is all good we all on the same buccaneers ship were Morris and Domminick is taking us only God knows lol @ Buc realist you have a list and I have a list to match I question your list cause J.Johnson really ? when Gruden was fired did any of them players say how they supported him? And know for a fact I see him and Gannon get into it on the sidelines. Bottom line Gruden good coach not a good peoples person. So the Bucs went to Morris (which agian do not agree with should have kept gruden) Moriis is good people person but at least say very inexperienced coach

  13. Eric Says:

I still have never seen the list of current players that badmouthed Gruden to the Glazers. I think it goes without saying one was the great blocking icon, but who else?

Anybody know the details on that?

  14. TJ Tillman Says:

You right Eric on current team it was just clayton I heard but when he got fired alot of his old players begin to join in that was my point. I just never heard any of the players saying they missed him whe nhe left oakland or when he left Tampa

  15. Louie Says:

How many players said they missed Dungy after he was fired?

  16. RahDomDaBest Says:

@Rob… Dominic was in the front office too.

Also, I think all the traded high draft picks for Keyshawn and Gruden is what left an even greater impact on our core.

Gruden did draft too many TEs in the later rounds when he should have drafted Safeties, CBs, and LBs… IMO.

  17. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Tj, stop listening to local radio then and get Sirius NFL Radio, you will get an enlightend view of Coach Gruden. Then you will hear other stuff then Gruden ran the draft for the bucs, and Gruden was the GM for the Bucs and Gruden is mean and would rather be king then win a football game.

  18. Joe Says:

Sirius NFL Radio, you will get an enlightend view of Coach Gruden

Depends who you are listening to. Rich Gannon is totally in the tank for Chucky. You’ll rarely if ever hear Gannon say one bad word about Chucky. Shoot, Gannon comes down to Tampa every now and then just to hang with Chucky in his bunker at the Ice Palace.

  19. nick Says:

How much would he love him when he throws a pick and comes back to the sidelines where Chucky is waiting with a profanity laced reaming? Besides Gruden wouldn’t want Tebow. He would have to turn his whole playbook around for the lefty. Chucky cant do that.

  20. DAve Says:

    “The_Buc_Realist Says: ”

You are correct in the Bucs downfall not being Gruden’s fault. He was the fall guy more so than people think….

    BUT…

His people skills have a lot to be desired and MANY players, including some you mentioned, have said the same thing. They may have said good things about him as a coach and his details and preparation, etc… but I have never heard one ex-player say anything good about HIM, as a person and how he handles relationships.

  21. Eric Says:

    ok, i need some clarification.

Am I to understand the Glazers firing of Gruden, as far as the player complaint compenent, was based entirely by the blocking icon?

So, when the Glazers said they relied upon the fans/shareholders and player(s) thats who they are referring to?

Im stuck on this cause I can’t figure out who else on the 08 roster would have bitched.

or maybe the Glazers just made that up?

Joe, do you have any intelligence on that?

  22. JDouble Says:

“I love coach Gruden,” Tebow said. “He was grinding me.”

    Ewwww.

  23. Joe Says:

    Eric:

It was more than Michael Clayton, specific players Joe would have to do some research. Clayton, clearly, was the most vocal.

  24. nick Says:

My favorite was Simeon Rice: Gruden was a scumbag, its all good though, I have friends who are scumbags. They just know they are scumbags

  25. Eric Says:

Well I guess it is all water under the bridge.

In reviewing the 08 roster the only other player I can see that had a bone to pick with Gruden would be Galloway. But if it was him he screwed himself since the new regime cut him anyhow.

Strong Gruden supporters should be Caddy, Graham, Dunn, Antonio Bryant, Hilliard, Askew, Brooks, Matt Bryant, Kevin Carter, Ruud, Barber, T. Jackson, Talib, etc. Plus, why would any other defensive players moan about Gruden since Monte coached them anyhow.

Time to let it go I suppose, but I think the “players hated Gruden” thing is way overblown, at least as far as the 08 squad. Ill bet the Glazers only heard what they wanted to hear and didn’t speak to everybody on that team. I dont think they are being forthright about what went into their decision.

  26. Will Reed Says:

Gruden is still looking for headlines. The guy is outdated he had no building skills he destroyed what was already built for him. He didn’t replenish any players lost in transition with equal or better players. He has no developmental skills what fruit has bared name one player who feels Gruden made him a better player or a better man. He drafted a menace 2 society in Talib when Jenkins was right in his back yard. He wasted a 2nd round pick on a return guy when they had Spurlock who created history did he get his watch yet The Bucs needed wideouts 4 a long time Keyshawn Keenan MCardell Joe Jurevicius all gone in comes Joey Galloway Ike Hilliard and a few other stiffs

  27. Kirk Says:

All these know-it-all posters act as though they know coach Gruden on a personal basis. I would bet money, if given they chance to meet him in person, they would eat peanuts off his anus and brag about it. The man is gone, leave him alone.

  28. Eric Says:

    Joey Galloway was a stiff????????????

2005 83 catches 1,282 yards (led NFL in yards per catch)
    2006 62 catches 1057 ards
    2007 57 catches 1014

What a horrible job that Gruden guy did coaching Joey Galloway.

And he got 722 yards out of old man Hilliard in 2007, not to mention over 1200 receiving yards from Antonio Bryant in 08.

But hey, the dream got 300 yards from Stroughter, and a mighty 16 catches from Clayton, so hes obvioulsy an offensive genius.

  29. BigMacAttack Says:

I love Chucky. I miss having him as our Coach. Firing him is one of the All time Bonehead decisions ever. They should have left Raheem at DC and just told Chucky what they wanted him to fix. He screwed up some draft picks, but who hasn’t? Monte had a hand in on some terrible picks too, but it was Allen pulling the strings. When Chucky was here the Bucs always had a chance to win, week in and week out. Tebow is a very lucky young man, and soon, some NFL team will be lucky to get Chucky. Sorry, but Chucky is the Shit.

  30. Eric Says:

    Put money on this happening
Tebow to the Browns with their second pick and Gruden to follow as head coach next year.

  31. Brad Says:

Bring Chucky back now.. The idiots around here have no idea what we did by letting him go.. For one we would still be wondering when and if we would ever win a Superbowl. But everyone else is worried about their feelings or how he treated certain players. Find a coach that is loved by everyone on their team.. You won’t find any. After we go for about 20 years waiting for our next Superbowl, all the morons that wanted him gone will look back at those as the good ole days.

  32. Jonny Says:

Ah, so many Chucky apologists. I never liked Rah’s hiring but I am glad Chucky is no more with us. Ours is the only team that lacks superstars, there is not one guy in the whole team that panned out to be a superstar since Ronde Barber.

  33. D-Rome Says:

Jon Gruden is a good coach and knows his stuff. He may not be a great head coach but he certainly knows a lot of about offense.

  34. Eric Says:

Chucky owes no one in Tampa an apology. His record speaks for itself.

    Just check the trophy case.

However, many spoiled rotten fans owe him one, if any are man enough to admit they were wrong.

In any event, more clarity on this subject to come in the fall, when the Dream’s team takes the field.

  35. tampa2 Says:

Eric, I agree with every one of your posts. While Chucky may have lacked people skills, he never lacked Coaching skills. It still amazes me that a drunk radio announcer and a few ticked fans could cause the firing of the man. I still feel that Chucky told those tight SOB’s where to stick it and they fired him. How many years did Chucky have to “patch” a team together with no money, and still won! I’ll take a conceited asshole that wins over a “nice guy” amatuer any day. Lets see how you like your “nice guy” dream after this season. Because it “ain’t gonna be pretty”!
