Sabby Tops Among Safeties

March 22nd, 2010

"I hate the Internet."

The serious stat geeks at ProFootballFocus.com have Sabby The Goat pegged for leading all NFL safeties in missed tackles in 2010. El Chivo (Spanish for goat) checked in with 20.

The stat was revealed as part of the Web site’s position-by-position study on “tackling inefficiency.” (Joe must give the dude at Bucstats.com a nod on this one.)

Joe can’t speak to the accuracy, or lack thereof, of ProFootballfocus.com, but is seems like the writers there put in some serious research.

Besides, who could argue in favor of Sabby the Goat being more than a backup and special teamer?

If Sabby was black he’d be off the team already.

  2. Tom Says:

Did Joe stop reading the second he saw Sabby’s name? It should stand to mention that TJax has the 2nd most misses for safeties in the league and was 3rd in tackling inefficiency.

We all know TJax is a much more valuable player than Sabby and great in coverage but it’s worthwhile to note both even though it’s easy to make Sabby the goat.

  3. RahDomDaBest Says:

TJax and Sabby can’t tackle. Did TJax even play the whole season??? if not then his 17 missed tackles are even worse than Sabby’s 20.

I wonder how aweful our LBs and CBs did?

Look the entire Tampa Defense sucked! DEAD LAST IN THE LEAGUE IN RUSHING DEFENSE.

When you have 2 safeties as the worst safeties in the NFL in regards to tackling, then there you have it. It all falls in line.

Don’t JUST blame Sabby (even though he sucked), blame the rest too… including TJax.

Now where is this list for LBs and CBs?

  4. RahDomDaBest Says:

LMFAO…. the GREAT Geno Hayes is #1 on the list in missed tackles at OLB…

  5. RahDomDaBest Says:

    Sort by MT…

  6. RahDomDaBest Says:

And the GREATEST OF ALL… Barber was 2nd with 16!!!

There, it’s not just Sabby’s fault.

  7. The_Buc_Realist Says:

This is the result of having the worst defensive line in the NFL! Joe, the other teams push over the D-Line and they are as helpless as turtles. Running backs are getting to the third level untouched. Or did you not see the gapping holes the other teams were running through. When the first cut is infront of the safties, Anyone will end up on the list. But keep blaming Sabby Joe. Because I am sure that Berry will fix everything. ( rolls eyes )

  8. Eric Says:

But I thought the Dream had that defense totally turned around when he took over for the last six games?

I am flabergasted to read anyone thinks we still have any defensive issues.

  9. Mike J Says:

A disappointing read generally. But, Hayes& Black ranked 8 & 12 as OLBs overall, however that is determined.

New safety Jones ranked very low in the cumulative rating.

  10. RahDomDaBest Says:

@mike… Geno Hayes led the league with 18 missed tackles as an OLB.

  11. RahDomDaBest Says:

Ryan Simms and Chris Hovan had ONLY 17 stops each… each with 600-700 snaps.

  12. RahDomDaBest Says:

BTW… just as a quick check and as no surprise, on the O-Line, Trueblood is killing us too.

  13. d-money Says:

    Bruno,

I hope that was a joke.

That is the most asinine comment i have ever read….ever hear of a guy named Michael Clayton?

  14. RahDomDaBest Says:

One last comment… now add all those missed tackles up with the defense itself constantly over pursuing and being out of position on the counters and cut backs… and you have the recipe for terrible.

With all the missed tackles Ronde had, he needs to shut his “Pro Bowl” mouth when talking down to the youngsters and giving Raheem coaching advice to cut Derrick Brooks… (even though that may not have happened… but that’s my story)

  15. Eric Says:

    You mean the team sucks?

Wow, who would have thunk it.

    3-13 wasn’t enough verification?

  16. RahDomDaBest Says:

@Eric… it should be obvious and i agree with your sentiment… but there are some blinded people around these forums who are speaking otherwise, making excuses for Ronde, Geno, TJax, Raheem and so on…

I just wanted to re-verify how the defense as a WHOLE stunk it up.

I may make a tag line detailing each player ranking at the top of the missed tackles list.. Starting with Sabby while followed by TJax, Geno Hayes and Barber… those guys missed a bunch of tackles… worst or 2nd to worst in the league at their posistions… couple that with the 2 DTs who had a league low of 17 stops with >600 plays.

  17. Mike J Says:

RahDomDaBest, that was apparently factored in. The overall also includes GOOD plays,I assume.

  18. Radio Mushmouth Says:

“TJax and Sabby can’t tackle. Did TJax even play the whole season??? if not then his 17 missed tackles are even worse than Sabby’s 20. ”

Yes Rah , but that’s what a scape”goat” is. It’s someone you blame for EVERYTHING. It wouldn’t be any fun if Bucs fans had to spread the blame around to where it rightfully beliongs…

  19. Jamie Says:

Did anyone else notice that Stylez G. White is rated as one of the top performers at defensive end? He’s ranked fifth overall, ahead of perennial Pro-Bowlers like Jared Allen, Justin Tuck, Mario Williams, and even Julius Peppers!

Then again, White is right behind John Abraham, who according to most had a down year with 5.5 sacks. So maybe the stats don’t accurately reflect who’s “good” and who’s “bad.”

Then again, White got 6.5 sacks playing next to some of the worst defensive lineman to start in all of the NFL. The fact that he still managed to post a very good rating in terms of pass rush might mean he’s better than these stats indicate.

Joe, I want an interview between Steve White and Stylez G. Make this happen!

  20. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    Stylez is the better White.

  21. thomas Says:

who is the secondary coach who has been responsible for developing these guys? Oops – thats right our unintelligible, inexperienced h.c.

the only thing rah-rah turned aroud was the reputation of this franchise from perenially competitive for 15 years to an embarrassment.

Thanks for the stats joe which support what we all saw – sabby is terrible, and the defense was terrible despite some misleading apparent improvement late in the year against the matt ryan-less, turner-less, o-line less falcons and the meaningless game from the saints standpoint after their loss to Dallas.

  22. Mike J Says:

Jamie, I was struck by that also. Maybe their rankings take into account tackles on run plays to your side, or QB pressures. They claim to chart very player every week. They seem to amalgamate multiple weighted factors.

  23. Radio Mushmouth Says:

“Jamie, I was struck by that also. Maybe their rankings take into account tackles on run plays to your side, or QB pressures. They claim to chart very player every week. They seem to amalgamate multiple weighted factors.”

Either that , or these rankings are just total crap ….

  24. RahDomDaBest Says:

Just stick with the cold hard facts… Missed tackles.

  25. Marc Says:

God I don’t understand you guys!!! Why are you “HATING”? Sabby is awsome. He is like sunshine in the morning! Like a John Lynch prototype. Geez I think this guys is pro bowl bound, just a few more years now. In the future I can see him laying out Andre Johnson and recovering a fumble, or no, maybe he will pick-6 off Larry Fitzgerald this season. Oh man the opportunities are endless with this guy! He is just so great. Such a great guy. He has football player writeen all over him. I guess you guys just cant read or something.
BTW He’s a freaking work out warrior!!! What more do you want from your superstar DB in the making?

  26. Mike J Says:

RahDomDaBest , if a player misses a tackle on first down, but intercepts & returns for a TD on third, was that a good series or a bad one by the guy??

  27. RahDomDaBest Says:

No one said Sabby didn’t suck…

But TJax sucked, Barber sucked, Geno Hayes couldn’t tackle consistently… It’s all right there… They weren’t in the middle of the pack, THEY WERE WORST AT THEIR POSITION IN THE ENTIRE NFL.

That means YOUR BOY Barber (who also got burned and blamed sabby), YOUR BOY Geno, YOUR BOY TJax missed league high tackles at their position… As well as sorry a– Sabby. They ALL SUCKED.

That is why the Bucs finished DEAD LAST in almost every rush defense category.

You must have been drunk on the Raheem coolaide to not see the Bucs getting ran all over on last year.
