Doug Martin Drops The “S” Bomb

May 27th, 2013

doug martin 1027There’s been little public chatter about winning a Super Bowl around One Buc Palace in recent years. Perhaps it’s often done privately or in hush tones, but Joe often senses a hesitation by Bucs brass and players to even say the words “Super Bowl.”

“Super Bowl” is just not a goal often verbalized by Bucs players, who just don’t seem to want to talk a big game or speak about the ultimate goal.

Joe has no problem with players staying humble and focusing on day-to-day improvement, but it was still good to hear Doug Martin reference winning a Super Bowl in a recent Buccaneers.com interview after an OTA practice last week.

The Bucs have nine young former Pro Bowlers on the roster — nine – plus imported blood in Darrelle Revis, Dashon Goldson, Carl Nicks and other Super-Bowl winning coaches and players that should bring a Super Bowl mentality. Also, a guy like Martin, a legitimate star out of the gate, should be dialed in to a championship mindset. Bravo!

Heck, new tight end Tom Crabtree was emphatic last week saying that there is “no dropoff” in talent on the Bucs roster comparted to what he left in Green Bay.

Bucs fans and players should be thinking and talking about a Super Bowl. It should be why we’re all here, and at least the current Buccaneers are legitimate longshots.

First let’s beat a playoff team outside our division. Superbowl…pppppph please. If we can’t beat an elite team, a cup of coffee in the playoff’s is the best case senerio. How many resent team’s have won the SB after 5 year’s of no playoff’s….none. It’s a process…1.playoff berth…2.win playoff games…win the SB

  2. Oldguy Says:

“none”. OK – But there’s a first time for everything.

  3. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Winning the Superbowl should always be the goal each and every season. Anything less is loser mentality.

Thanks to all who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep our great nation free. Today is your day we honor and remember you!

    As Jim Mora once said,

“SUPER BOWL? Don’t Talk about Super Bowl? You Kiddin Me! Super Bowl?”

  5. tonytwocents Says:

    whats with these negative know-it-all-geeks?

    “It’s a process…1.playoff berth…2.win playoff games…win the SB”

holy crap, he figured out how a team wins a Super Bowl. Dominik, hire this man!

  6. tonytwocents Says:

ditto Seany. just like every play is designed to score a TD. If we make the playoffs, my minset will be that all 12 teams are 0-0, and if the Giants did it last year, then why the f*ck not.

  7. tonytwocents Says:

    excuse me, the year before

  8. TrueBlue Says:

Every play is not designed to score a touchdown. Quite a few are just designed to move the chains.

I agree however, that those who are afraid to dream are destined for mediocrity.

Las Vegas Odds are at 45-1. My odds are Even Money! Every Team can make headway which derails another Team!

    ANY GIVEN SUNDAY!
    Or Monday
    Or Thursday
And sometimes Saturday, My Buccanners can Show Up and Whip your Teams ARSE!

Jon Gruden once said: “Just give me the ticket to the dance”.

  11. Pete 422 Says:

That’s why they play the game. Everything we say before the season pretty much means nothing. I remember people questioning Flaco in recent years (much like the “faithful” question Freeman). Let training camp play out & then the actual games. The darnedest things happen.

There is nothing wrong with confidence.

  12. Bobby Says:

We have the talent to win the super bowl. Why not talk about it? I’d be worried if they DIDN’T talk about it. That’s always the goal. Anything less is failure. No team goes into the season saying “Hey guys…let’s just win more than last year.” You think you can win every game and the minute you stop thinking that you are through.

  13. blackmagic00 Says:

Hey could be a Bucs Raiders Superbowl. Lol. Us in the dance all depends on Freeman at this point.

  14. Eric Says:

It should be unacceptable if we don’t seriously contend for the super bowl, like it was when Tony and Jon coached.

Only reason to play the game.

But our fan base prefers fantasizing over draftees while our team accomplishes didley. Interesting dynamic.

  15. Braheem Says:

The Head Coach needs to Start Leading the Charge! The GM and Freeman’s Rep should be in negotiations (Even if it doesn’t get done right away), but it evokes confidence and continuity when your Triggerman is viewed as NOT having one foot out the door.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

“Playoffs, Playoffs are you kidding me..I just hope we can win a game!” Jim Mora

  17. Eric Says:

    The lovable legitimate long shots.

One yellow brick on the way to lasting contenders.

    Pathetic.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I believe the teams that lose in the first round of the playoffs year after year are the teams that focus on “making the playoffs” in the regular season.

The goal for a good team should ALWAYS be to make the Superbowl. Only the bad teams “hope” to make the playoffs.

Just my opinion, but if you think it thru it makes sense.

  19. TAC Says:

I remember when Sapp went national with the Superbowl talk in ’97 or so, and the word was taboo then, for all the same reasons as now.

Sapp wasn’t playing around, and walked the talk in the future. Maybe Doug is our new Sapp, damn the taboo talk, full speed ahead.

    Go for it Doug.
