So Kellen Winslow Is Invisible?

September 16th, 2010

kellen winslow0505bGood guy Maoist Michael Silver, of Yahoo Sports, had a curious quote about the Bucs in his first “32 Questions” of the NFL season, in which he rhetorically ask a question about each NFL team.

In his question about the Bucs, Silver seems confused or perplexed by Bucs tight end Kellen Winslow.

Does anyone even remember that Kellen Winslow is still in the league?

If Silver is suggesting people are forgetting about him because he played on one of the worst teams in the NFL last year, OK, Joe gets that. But if Silver is implying that Winslow’s skills have slipped, well, Cleveland found out the hard way that certainly is not the case.

If anything, Winslow could be more dangerous this year because of the emergence of Mike Williams and Sammie Stroughter.

Another crackpot that does not watch the games before putting pen to paper. The impact of forcing the other team to know where he is at all times is priceless.

  2. sensiblefan Says:

See Joe, this is the disrespect/lack of attention I’m talking about. K2 is our most talented player and this guy doesn’t even know he’s in the League?

  3. Jdouble Says:

I just ignore all the national nonsense. I as a somewhat hardcore fan know more about this team than 90% of these yahoos who consider themselves professionals. It’s just how it is when you have a team of young nobodies that the national media expect nothing out of. If we start 3-0, all these morons will be brushing up on their Buccaneer facts over our bi-week.

  4. d-money Says:

Another national media A-hole doing a fly by and not getting any facts.

  5. Snook Says:

Unless its Chris Johnson, Brett Favre, or the Jets, most national guys don’t have a clue what’s going on…

Winslow gains almost 900 yarde last year with a terrible team and this moron wants to know if he is still in the league.Must be Schein’s homo cousin or Florio’s long lost lover.

  7. lightningbuc Says:

Actually, I think it’s great no one notices. Winslow got a lot of pub in Cleveland, most of it negative, so if he is flying under the radar outside of Tampa I think it’s a positive. I LOVED how he ran out of the tunnel with that flag right in front of the Brownie bench and then backed it up by winning!

I was about to bring Schein’s name.

Since I enjoy comedy, I think it is great that all of these so called “pundits” are not aware of what is going on here. Rich Gannon was that way until he had to do the Bucs game. Now he says nothing like he did.

Do you think that Morris and Olsen did not notice Freeman’s QB rating from the shotgun? Wonder what will happen with this. Of course the national media did not notice this either, or for that matter much of the local “pundits”. We should get a good read on our run defense with this game, if we give them the ball much.

  10. Derf Says:

Hey…you all just MISUNDERSTOOD what he was writing.

He was asking if Winslow was invisible when it comes to RUN BLOCKING in which case yeah Kellen needs to do more.

  11. sensiblefan Says:

    @ Derf

    …ahhhh, no.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

It is funny, but isn’t it sad to realize how few people actually do the job the get payed to do? How many of these articles has Joe shown us, where the guy that wrote the article couldn’t have done any research whatsoever. Their entire article was just crap based on last year, with no idea or clue what has happened since. It’s really a sad commentary on not only peoples work ethic, but also their integrity, as they will sign their names on some total fantasy piece rather than do the least Lil bit of work!!

  13. oar Says:

    Sensible,
His question, is not about if Kellan is in the league. I think, its about his lack of use in the game. I too, thought he was our #1 offensive weapon? His 4 catches and 32 yds, might mean he is on pace for a 64 catch, 512 yd season. I’m sure he isn’t it, but I don’t see how his question is about Kellan’s existence in the league.

  14. sensiblefan Says:

    @ OAR

    Whose question? Silver or Derf?

Silver’s comment only means one thing to me: Silver and the majority of the national media have forgotten/don’t play attention to K2 and, by proxy, the Bucs. If Silver was merely referring to K2′s use (or lack thereof) in Sunday’s game he would’ve said,

“Does anyone on the Bucs coaching staff even remember that Kellen Winslow is still in the league?

But he didn’t. So I am only left to assume he meant, “Does anyone in the entire world even remember, etc.”

  15. oar Says:

    Sensible,
    No, not Derf’s. Silver’s question was part of a single sentence questions about each team. Some sort of long-awaited return of our quizzical, top-to-bottom trip through the league, beginning with the defending champs:(their words) here’s a few of them;
    2. Green Bay Packers: Is A.J. Hawk an endangered species?
    7. Minnesota Vikings: If Percy Harvin gets more sleep, will that be enough to wake up the Vikes’ passing attack
    19. Arizona Cardinals: How awesome was Steve Breaston in his first game as Anquan Boldin’s replacement?
    23. Miami Dolphins: Is Tony Sparano playing the right Chad at quarterback?
So, I’m not sure if it was to be taken as seriously as some of you did.

  16. Dave Says:

This guy is a moron if he didn’t know K2 was one of the top recieving TEs last year.

  17. sensiblefan Says:

@ oar aka the bad guy

Ahhhh I get ya…Meh…That softens my stance on Silver a bit. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but it still grinds my gears that the national media doesn’t bother to research our team.

  18. oar Says:

    Sensible,
I hear ya and have been saying that for years! Our Bucs get no respect in the sports media! Don’t get me wrong, I could really care less about Silver.
