No Plaid Jackets For Raheem

September 16th, 2010

The Bucs’ head coach says he’s going to stick with good old fashioned flying chest bumps to motivate his team.

There will be no Joe Maddonesque fashion statements, Raheem Morris explained earlier this week on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

A caller to the Raheem Morris Show on WDAE-AM 620 asked Morris whether he was planning any of the bizarre fashion statements the Rays manager uses as bonding exercises.

“I’ll start with Joe Maddon, man. That’s my guy, man. Joe comes up with some great ideas for his team,” Morris said. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a plaid jacket on before. But, you know, Joe Maddon is a great dude.

“Whatever I can give these guys as far as positive energy, which I get highly criticized about a lot of times with our chest bumps and stuff. But hey, that’s what my team feeds off of. That’s what I feed off of, and that’s how we’re going to plan to play.”

Joe really doesn’t care how Raheem motivates the Bucs, as long as they win.

If the Bucs can somehow squeeze a win out of Carolina on Sunday, Joe vows to chest bump the person nearest to him when the final whistle sounds. Hopefully, she’ll be a buxom blonde — just to cushion the blow, of course.

I hope it’s some fat guy with man boobs and no shirt, hehe.

    I like the chest bumps.
They’re a lot easier to look at than plaid jackets.

  3. Jdouble Says:

I never understood why some people get upset about the chest bumps. Heaven forbid they show some excitment after big plays.

  4. McBuc Says:

It beats the old “smack on the arse”.

Raheem has made mention to being criticized numerous times lately, for all sorts of things he does. In the past couple weeks he says something about it in every Press conference. It is getting old and he needs to shut up about it. As an NFL Coach, you are going to get criticized, so roll with it. I don’t know if this is a new psycho-warfare strategy his speaking coach is having him employ to turn the tables, but it isn’t working. Raheem needs to coach the team and stick to football. If he wants to chest bump, he should do it, but stop whining about it. They(1 Buc) must have interns reading the various blogs and comments, highlighting some, and reporting back to the brain trust. Raheem obviously knows what is written in every report about him because he keeps sneaking in references to it, even old ones. So he either sits awake at night and reads them or they read Raheem bedtime stories.

I can see why Raheem might be a little insecure, but he needs to quit worrying about the perception now and focus on reality, which is winning football games. This is where the pavement meets the road, for the next few months, so make it count, and things will work out for you.

We have rednecks here on JBF.com and they are the only ones that care about chest bumping. Guys like Eric, Radio MM, Oar, Zero Exp, tampa-2, Louie the hater, Mickey the moron.

BigMac…This is a rare occasion were I disagree…kind of…I do not think he is whining, he says he is going to do what he does regardless of the criticism he gets. I have heard plenty of coaches mention criticism…Billechick did it last year. I think he uses the criticism of the entire team, including himself, as a motivating factor…It is us against the world type thing. If it works is yet to be seen. They did win game 1, let’s see if they win a few more.

Jonny-you for Thomas and Javier(RahDomtheKlansman) and Negative Expectation.I figure a couple more wins should thin the squad dramatically.

    Jonny,
Thanks for getting me on the list. I feel like Navin R Johnson. I’m somebody NOW! Bad boys rejoice!
Anyways, I haven’t seen him chest bumping since last year and wow it looks like a difference has been made. Winning.
BTW can you guys name me some other head coach that does that?

  10. McBuc Says:

OAR…Who cares what other coaches do? Many of them would throw out a hip!

  11. oar Says:

McBuc, Like I said, it’s dissapearance seems to have brought better things to the team. I guess I’m too old school, sorry. Too me, it looks ridiculous for a head coach to do that. Glad he has given thought to the others and media critizisms about it. I guess some of us aren’t the only ones.

  12. BigMacAttack Says:

McBuc, I’m just saying that it doesn’t always paint a pretty picture for him.

Personally, I love the Chest Bumps as long as they aren’t ill timed.

Actually, I think I saw Josh McDaniels doing a Chest Bump.
