Barbecue Time! Maybe.

March 1st, 2015

logan mankins 0917Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud was busy Twittering today that barbecue-yearning guard Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson will return to the Buccaneers in 2015.

Joe would caution that things change quickly in the NFL (see Darrelle Revis in March 2014).

However, if Stroud is accurate, then this sure sounds like a Bucs team committed to surrounding Jameis Winston a rookie quarterback with veteran character guys known for a grinding work ethic.

Stroud also noted that Jackson and Mankins will combine to earn about $17 million.

As for Joe’s obsession with Mankins and the barbecues, well, you can click the link in the first paragraph. Joe sure hopes Mankins gets the barbecue magic going early and often. Joe’s happy to provide sauce, spatulas, and all the O-line fellas can come to Joe’s house if Mankins can’t find a suitable venue again.

Even with Mankins and Jackson carrying slightly bloated salaries they have enough cap room to sign basically whoever they want when the dinner bell rings.

  2. Ray Rice Says:

The pitmaster will get his a$$$ eaten alive on the line again and again!

  3. kevin Says:

Again….no OC affected every aspect of our offense. That has to be taken into consideration. A well balanced and coached offense alone will improve production with the same exact cast. Upgrades at a few positions will just be icing on the cake. As long as Koetter is here and well I have no issues. I am more anxious to see the improvement on defense

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mankins can use that 6.25% savings on Mass state sales tax $437,500 to buy BBQ for the entire team…many times over….perhaps for all of us.

I think he will settle in now that the shock is over…Mankins is a leader with a great deal of personal pride…..one of the least of our worries going forward….

  5. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Joe and fellow fans, are you also surprised that Koenen, Collins, and Hawk are still on the team? I don’t think they can get any draft picks the worst punter in the league and an O lineman who was benched the rest of the ’14 season for poor play? As for the BBQ, Joe If Logan would like, I will gladly give them a party at my house in PA. Maybe make it a bonding weekend near Valley Forge!

  6. Joseph Mamma Says:

Yeah what we do without the stud of the offensive lineman Logan Mankins? The Patriots’ offensive line went to absolute crap without his performance and leadership.

  7. LargoBuc Says:

As a young, rebuilding team, if Mankins is going to be on this team he has to produce! Hopefully he’ll be prepared to be a Buccaneer this season and help make our oline respectable while setting an example of professionalism for our young players.

  8. kevin Says:

Collins and hawk suck….koenen used to be one of the best punters so I blame that on coaching….him mankins and verner should perform better this season.

  9. Keith Says:

Mankins isn’t a good football player any longer. Not sure this is good news. We’d still be better off with Penn at LT and Zuttah at LG. Pisses me off.

  10. ddneast Says:

The whole offense stunk except for the WR’s and the reason for it was fired. As for Ray Rice, how is the weather in Chicago, Baltimore or whatever rat infested hole you live in. It is so obvious you are a troll and not a Bucs fan.

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

I dont know what to think about Mankin’s less than stellar debut with the Bucs. Obviously the Pats did’nt miss him. Wow, he must be a keeper on this lousy O line. Fix it head cheeses or plan on similiar results this coming go round.

  12. ddneast Says:

Joe, enough with the barbecue. Mankins was using that as a metaphor of how the Patriots offensive line had developed bonds and the Bucs OL had not been together long enough to do so.
I mean really Joe, I know you went to college, did you get someone to take your English 101 tests.
Give it a rest. You have beaten this horse so often it’s DOA.
Just in case you don’t understand, that’s a metaphor, too.

  13. WS99 Says:

Maybe they should go to lee Roy selmons to bond. See what I did there?

Happy he is on the team even at an inflated cost. He can start teaching people about having a winning attitude, hating to lose, not being at all accepting of losing, getting pissed the F off about losing. I think you get my point.

Best of all he can teach the line how to protect a cocky, arrogant qb that the only thing he knows how to do is win win win no matter what.

“I’m the best decision this organization has ever made” Brady to Kraft first day at camp after he was drafted. Smh, the balls on that kid. Dare to be great. Will yourself to greatness. I’m obviously still hungover. Lol 🙂

  14. Tom Edrington Says:

    Peeee-yeeeewwwwww…

If his barbecue smelled the way this guy plays, there would be a lot of folks at his pad throwing up…..

  15. salish_seamonster Says:

More stupid BBQ comments. Never miss a chance to be an a$$hole.

  16. ddneast Says:

Yes WS99. For some strange reason, I don’t know why, but I liked your post.

  17. ddneast Says:

Not sure about Zuttah “Keith” but Penn needed a big wake up call since it seems both of you slept through the 2013 season.
Penn was credited with giving up 14 sacks in 2013 . When he was cut no one picked him up on waivers because his contract was way to big considering how he played and performed in 2013.
    Those are facts, Keith.

  18. Harry Says:

It’s ridiculous what the Bucs are paying Mankins. My guess is they feel the need to keep him to justify the absurd trade they made to get him. At $7M that is about what Penn was making (LTs are typically paid much higher than Gs) and about the same money Nicks was getting and he was a bull dozer.

  19. Cory Says:

The staff had a plan, get Jameis. Mission accomplished. Now everyone start playing again fellas, show them what you’ve got

  20. DallasBuc Says:

As long as he isn’t tweeting that Johnson and Collins are Buccaneers in 2015 I’m good.

  21. Architek Says:

    BarBQue yearning

    Hahahahahahahahahaha

  22. Architek Says:

    I can’t knock a man for “yearning” that Que….

But I can argue about the effects of the que on the field on Sunday’s.

  23. "TheKevin" Says:

There is an imposter known as “Kevin” on here commenting.

I would like to let you all know he is not “the Kevin”

I am still “the kevin” no I did not change my screen name.

And you are all still idiot moron haters.

    Especially Tom.

  24. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Joe, I was informed today by a friend that there are rumors that the Bills are offering a first rounder for Mike Glennon and a third. Have you heard anything about this?

I find it pretty unbelievable myself, but on the off chance anyone else has heard about it…

  25. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @”TheKevin”

I doubt you are the only “Kevin” that is a fan of the Bucs.

  26. The original "Kevin" Says:

    “The Kevin” …..

Ive been Kevin long before “The Kevin” showed up. On my phone my name shows as “Kevin” and from my mac shows up as “Not the Kevin”because I have been too lazy to change it. No worries though, I dont seem to have a mob of people calling my posts uneducated and misinformed so it should be pretty easy for everyone to identify who is who

  27. lurker Says:

    bucs’ rumor mill a churning.

on guard mike iupai: “and Dianna Marie Russini of NBC4 in Washington D.C reported Friday that the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the teams known to be interested in the prized guard. “

  28. lurker Says:

“No worries though, I dont seem to have a mob of people calling my posts uneducated and misinformed so it should be pretty easy for everyone to identify who is who”

    lmao

  29. "TheKevin" Says:

    @Mr. Intelligent Kevin

Just making sure we were clear.

    Now go suck one.

  30. lurker Says:

    “Greg Auman @gregauman · Feb 27

From last four drafts, Bucs have only five defensive players still under contract: David, Banks, Gholston, Spence, Tandy. Nine on offense.”

    this can’t be good…

  31. Ray Rice Says:

    @DDN

I live in Oakland, CA. The weather is nice over here buddy. And no. I don’t have to prove $hit to you about how long I’ve been a fan.

  32. The original "Kevin" Says:

    @ “The Kevin”

Thank you for supporting my case!

  33. DallasBuc Says:

TheKevin is back once again with another intelligent retort that is a mashup of old favorites!…”idiot moron hater” is now an instant classic. This very young man is a superstar on this corner of the interwebs bringing his inane juvenile insults with an unnecessary amount of anger and vitriol. Well done sir!

  34. BoJim Says:

Glad to have Mankins back. I think he will have a good year as long as he doesn’t have to help the guy next to him all the time.

  35. knuckledragger Says:

I keep looking at the time stamps here. BoJim just posted 15 minutes ago and it says 8:34. That is somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

  36. WINdycitybuc Says:

We are sitting pretty in terms of options. High draft picks. PLENTY of sheddable salaries…which would only add to our cap comfort. Fool me twice…

  37. RustyRhinos Says:

A Big Thank You DallasBuc, I needed that long belly laugh!

  38. ddneast Says:

    LOL. Oakland? Oakland!
Hey, I’m sorry Ray Rice. I shouldn’t have said rat infested.
I should have said crime ridden rat infested city of a hell hole if I knew you were from Oakand, Ca.
Well, water does seek it’s own level Ray Rice.
Another troll and fan of another team exposed.
You must stll be hurting from that thumping the Bucs put on your boys two years ago.

  39. Haber Says:

Glad to have Mankins back. I think he will have a good admin

  40. tickrdr Says:

@Harry: Not only did the Bucs pay him all that money for a subpar year, remember what we gave up for the privilege.
Posted earlier this year, and apropos for the last two threads.

Another idiotic Lovie move. Got rid of all things Schiano. How did that work out for Lovie the Loser?
    ————————————————————————-
But, but,……….but; Glennon didn’t make anyone around him any better. (sarc)
Tim Wright, UDFA from Rutgers in 2013 (Note: no Gronkowski double-teams that year):
In 8 starts: 54 receptions for 571 yards, 5 TDs, and BTW, no fumbles.
ASJ, 2nd round draft pick in 2014:
In 9 starts: 21 for 221 yards, and 2 TDs. I also seem to remember at least one stupid penalty, and at least one costly fumble.
Traded Tim Wright for Logan Mankins, AND a 4th round pick.
Channeling my best ddneast: Sheep-skinned= FLEECED.
