Lovie Offers Game 1 Evaluation Of Holliday

Holliday

Bucs returner Trindon Holliday

Yes, the Bucs cut Mike Kafka yesterday and sliced Eric Page from their practice squad. Is the Page move an indicator of Tampa Bay’s new faith in returner Trindon Holliday, who was not special in his Bucs debut Sunday?

Lovie Smith weighed in on Holliday on his Total Access show, via the Buccaneers Radio Network last night.

“He was able to get one decent return in,” Lovie said.

As usual, Lovie focused on the positive and didn’t mention Holliday’s fumble and, in Joe’s opinion, a couple of lifeless efforts, including the opening kickoff to the Tampa Bay 13 yard line. (C’mon Holliday, that’s inexcusable!). Yes, Holliday was just signed off the street last week, but he has to do better.

Lovie went on to say he’s excited to get Jonathan Casillas and Keith Tandy back from injuries this week. core special teamers who should be able to help on the return game.

Hopefully, something will provide spark. The only thing special about the Bucs’ special teams this season is rookie kicker Patrick Murray.

Holliday might give us a couple nice returns but there’s a reason he was on the street. Big time ball security issues with him.

  2. Luther Says:

I am NOT a fan of bringing the ball out of the endzone when the ball is caught towards the back of the endzone. Kneel down and fight another day. Several bone headed returns. Sad part is we get so much practice at it and still can’t get it right.

“He was able to get one decent return in,” Lovie said.

Well yay for that! One decent return a game is great, right? F’n stupid.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

More smoke blowing. Come to the Bucs and face derision. Lovie will grasp at any smidgen of positive play if there was any. Lovie does’nt have much to say because there is nothing worth talking about.

  5. Tye Says:

I just feel bad for these players…. Many of them have dreamed of playing in the NFL since they were kids and have now saw their dreams come to be just to have it turned into a nightmare under the coaching of Lovie Smith…. If their are any that get traded it will probably be a celebration for them to get some real coaching to have success!

  6. RCH Says:

    I wasn’t impressed by him.

  7. DB55 Says:

I finally saw some starters playing ST, Barron and Goldson were out there. I wonder if Murray can punt too? Can’t be any worse than the 30 yard kicks our punter is giving us.

    C’mon Joe.

Spark? From the fish we call a HC?

    Please.

    The Bears fans warned us.

  9. RealityCheck Says:

Here’s what you do on special teams. Take a knee in the endzone on kickoffs, always. Fair catch the ball on punts, always. Tell the “blockers” to keep their hands to themselves. DONE. Our special teams is now instantly improved. We’ll start on the 20 on kickoffs and we won’t have a 10 yard holding penalty on every punt.

  10. willie.D Says:

Eric page only fumbled once and had more returns for more than 20 yards than this guy.

  11. willie.D Says:

Eric page only fumbled once and had more returns for more than 20 yards than this guy. oh yeah he averaged almost 3 yards more per punt return than holiday

  12. ForgotAboutDre Says:

We were told he was a huge gamble on returns, and he’s already showed it. Too much risk for the reward in my opinion.

  13. Soggy Says:

Lovie says: Maybe soggy is right hester might of been the way to go, Simple as that..

  14. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Gene Deckerhoff while calling the game described Holiday being tackled “like a love bug hitting a windshield”.

Might as well cut the punt returner as well since the D can’t stop anyone from scoring.

  15. Back up kicker Says:

He’s a prick too. He was at a hometown huddle event yesterday telling kids, “I don’t read”. Dumb ass and he sucks. Great example

  16. THETRUTH Says:

HESTER would have been answer and another bonehead mistake made by this coach and GM.. too much money??? we are still way under the cap and HESTER is a field position changer not just returner.

WHAT DID PAIGE DO not to get a chance JOE?

  17. willie.D Says:

yeah Joe what did Paige do to not get at least a chance

  18. willie.D Says:

yeah Joe what did Paige do to not get at least a chance he proved last year that he was at least capable

  19. Tomcin Says:

Cut Owusu, Patton & now Page. Dovie is a complete idiot. I really can’t stand the guy the way he stands on the sideline with that stupid look on his face. Its like he saying to himself. I’m getting 5mil from the stupid Glazers for just standing here like an idiot. The only time I laugh is when I’m going to the bank.

  20. Matts17 Says:

Just more grasping at straws from a pro personnel group that is totally lost. Holliday is a negative play waiting to happen. His downside far outweighs anything he might bring in the return game. It seems all the other teams in the league figured that out…except for the Bucs of course.

  21. Mike10 Says:

Patrick Murray has proven to be a dependable kicker – I’ll give Lovie that – Unfortunately, the only thing he was right on was Murray

(and 1 for 2 is offseason special team personnel decisions).

  22. jay Says:

the only way the bucs gonna get a spark….is if they catch a pikachu

  23. unbelievable Says:

is Willie D actually Eric Page? Or maybe his boyfriend?

All kidding aside, I actually agree. Thought Page should have been given a shot he was decent last year, just not ‘spectacular’. But much better than anyone we’ve had out there this year.

  24. Louis Friend Says:

It doesn’t matter. The season is shot. We just get to see all the guys who won’t be around in 2015. There are a lot of them sadly.

  25. willie d Says:

I am the president of his unofficial fan club, hoping he gets picked up by Cleveland and him kickin your butts next week.

  26. unbelievable Says:

so then why are you on a Bucs site?

  27. willie d Says:

TJ is also a hometown Rocket so I get to bitch on your site still. I have picked Bucs as my number 2 team based on players…but not many I liked are here anymore so I will have to pick another team…too bad I was looking forward to visiting Tampa

  28. Da Says:

This team is the worst I have ever seen ever. I actually thought they would handle the Vikings. I was bored watching the score on my phone at Disney World lol

How can a team be so bad that not one area is ever good. Oh except the FG kicker. The coaches new name is Lovie Sith because he is secretly destroying the team on purpose to get a good pick.

  29. Da Says:

I put a Bucs tag on my car and now I am always the last one to get to work. WTH

    Next question?
