Demps Dumped From Practice Squad

October 13th, 2014

jeff demps 2The fastest man in the NFL has made a quick exit from One Buc Palace.

Former Florida Gators running back/returner and former Lovie Smith obsession, Jeff Demps, was cut from the Bucs this afternoon.

Lovie expressed very high hopes for Demps in the offseason, but Demps proved to have Michael Clayton hands and subpar returning skills.

Demps landed on the practice squad after the team’s final preseason cuts. And now he’s gone. It’ll be interesting to see if Demps catches on with another team. Joe suspects he will. That much speed is too tempting for every team to pass up.

It’s evident we don’t know how to develop players. Good luck Demps

  2. RastaMon Says:

Lucky man…can’t get away fast enough…..he’ll go to a team that that knows how to use him …we’ll be seeing him post season as a role player

  3. Kenm Says:

Given the expertise that the Bucs have shown in evaluating talent you just know that Demps is going to return a touchdown against this team at some point and probably rush for 200 yards as well.

  4. 941bucsfan Says:

So these were tge roater changes we were expecting from lovie??? Cutting a player that has nothing to do with Sundays…Thanks lovie

  5. TAC Says:

    Heads sure rolled there.

“Lappy Licht, shuffle up the roster”, show em who’s boss.

  6. Wombat Says:

yes he was the problem, we should start winning now that his sorry ass is gone….. sheesh!!! (all in blue)

  7. RastaMon Says:

Big move coming from L&L…someone from the 53 is going to the practice squad….and Practice Squad players on the other 31 teams are cowering in fear their Caller ID will show the Bucs are calling……

  8. Robert 9 Says:

    good for him.

now trade glennon to miami so i can watch him for free.

  9. Sean P Says:

Good, because it was evident on Sunday that the Bucs had just too much speed on offense.

  10. Kevin#1 Says:

Probably the one guy that we COULD have used to create big gains in space just got released. HOW much you wanna bet Seattle picks him up and uses him as they’re Percy Harvin backup or another team for the same role. Our team has become LAME!!! No swagger, no style, NO BALLS!!!!!!! Fans would not be reacting this way just over any old loss the players and coaches deserve to catch hell for that. They deserve half my salary for that performance but yet they all are livin large laughing all the way to the bank. They deserve to play in an empty stadium. I hope they all felt like crap when it was nothing but red plastic seats with no butts there to watch. You could build a 53 man roster mad dup of commenters on this site to play a better game than that!!!

  11. DB55 Says:

    Kevin

I’ll play, broken finger and all. Count me in.

  12. CB Buc Says:

    It’s about time.
Lightning speed, good for two reverses a game but can’t catch the football at the pro level.

Speed doesn’t help if you don’t have the ball. Too bad.though, he has game changing wheels

  13. Patrick in VA Says:

You guys realize that belichek had him first and couldn’t use him either, right? You act like the Bucs not being able to fit him in was the fault of the coaching staff. Maybe the guy is just fast and nothing else

  14. Florida Hillbilly Says:

Great, maybe we can get another 5 million dollar note book holder!

  15. Boomer33 Says:

Big deal. He never was or will be a NFL player. Nuff said.

  16. jo_mama Says:

    Just Fire Lovie Smith.

Too much of a Coward to do his radio show today.

    Just fire lovie smith.

  17. RastaMon Says:

gee williekers….Demps dropped passes were SO much worse …than anyone elses…

  18. gulfcoast Says:

We are overlooking one thing, Demps straight sucked. Period. Hate the front office for other reasons, just not all reasons.

  19. DB55 Says:

    @joe

Do you plan to write an article about Geraldine apologizing to the Twitter verse f*ing hilarious. Not only does he pick up opponents off the ground but he soothes random souls as well, what a great guy!

  20. Zam Says:

Maybe on a track in shorts, but he didn’t look blazing fast on a field in pads. The fastest football guys like Mike Vick back in the day could change direction without losing speed.

  21. Joe Says:

    Nah.

  22. Mitch Says:

Anyone catch the report about glennon being pressured more times in the Baltimore game than any other quarterback in the last five years!! Crazy stat.

  26. RastaMon Says:

It is worse…when reading it…and Large Canine began his rant yipping at Glennons heels…I tuned in for about 3 minutes before going FM…mutt …don’t bite the hand that feeds you..

  27. 77 bassguitarist Says:

“but coach i didn’t participate in the blow
Out’s why am i being cut”?????

  28. Casual Observer Says:

And on the other side of the line, their QB also set a record. Quickest, by far, to have 5 TD passes at the start of a game. In NFL history also. So both QBs made history.

  29. Tiny Tim Says:

Funny how all of Glennon’s pressures/mistakes was not his fault or the result of him holding on to the ball to long or making a bad read or panicing etc yet McCown’s pressures was his fault. News flash Glennon Mob, this team sucks period. It does not matter if McCown or Glennon is under center. Neither one of them has what it takes to mask the ills of the rest of the team like a true franchise qb. Draft a first round qb in the next draft please Lovie!!! (Preferably Winston).

Glennon/McCown are good if and only if the team plays well around them every sunday. That is not the case for a true franchise qb.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Tiniy Tim

No Christmas Turkey for you and your family…..trying to figure out how Bucs cutting Demps sparks a post from you about Glennon and bringing in a francise QB…..

    Ebenezer Scrooge

  31. buc4lyfe Says:

As fast as he is why did it take so long to figure out what to do with him, patriots tried blount at kick return how smart was that but had no clue what to do with the fastest man in the league playing on a team with one of the best quarterbacks. This was his 3rd or 4th team, he can’t break tackles so it’ll be his last.

  32. jo_mama Says:

Joe start open threads for Sunday, Monday and Thursday night games.

This play calling for St. Louis is awesome.

  33. jo_mama Says:

Rams Defense swarms to the ball.

bucs should just copy what other teams do.

Or make a decision and then do the opposite.

  34. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

    Is all this really happening?

  35. Andrew 1 Says:

Demps was and is overrated. Why fans are so fascinated with this guy, I’ll never know. He was a track star playing football, not a football player running track. Even when he was at Florida, his counterpart Rainy, was a better football player than him and he was slower.

Same goes for Mike James. I dont expect him to be around in the near future either.

  36. Andrew 1 Says:

And no, its not the same Rainy currently on our team.

  37. deminion Says:

    He sucked anyway

Thank you. Speed does not mean one is a good football player.

  40. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Knowing the Bucs luck, he’ll come back to burn them for a couple of punt or kickoff return TDs in 2015….

  41. HailSagan666 Says:

Can we cut the entire roster and coaching staff except lvd gmc and mg? If we filled the rest of our ranks with the kids from plant highschool we couldn’t do worse than we did vs the crows and chickens.

  42. hawke54 Says:

Wow we just found out what the problem was. Jeff Demps .these guys are a a joke L&L
