Report: Josh McCown Is En Route

March 11th, 2014

josh mccown 0311Joe wrote many days ago the Bucs would pounce immediately on Josh McCown, the journeyman quarterback turned super hero in this down year for free agent QBs.

Per the Twittering of Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Mc Cown is heading to Tampa to meet with the Bucs now that the free agency bell has rung.

Joe’s only question is whether McCown is on that fancy Team Glazer (rented?) private jet used for big-money free agents the past couple of years. Does McCown get that kind of royal savior treatment?

Like La Canfora, Joe expects McCown will sign within minutes of his arrival.

    BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Andrew 1 Says:

    STARTER!!!!

  3. Mike Says:

    Who cares!!!!

  4. Trubucfan22 Says:

Never was a great qb, but a billion times better than having Glennon start another game. Now we need to draft a qb.

  5. bucrightoff Says:

Will Joe’s Johnny dream die with a McCown signature? Stay tuned….

  6. Erick Says:

Ugh…now we will have 3 backups

  7. Kansasbuc Says:

Oh, now I see why we need to release Revis… So we can overpay for trash players. Can never have enough of them on your team!!

  8. loweredexpectations Says:

smh. i don’t get it. this contract better be reasonable.

  9. Hawk Says:

He’ll be the starting backup, and both McCown and his agent care. :^)

  10. Sapp, STFU Says:

This could be cool. We get McCown to compete for starting position, trade Revis to get higher draft pick from Browns, get QB of future. Use excess cap space to fill multiple spots, including DE.

Then we begin shifting roster each year to deal with weaknesses.

I’m warming up to this. C’Mon Browns, break the bank and take Revis for your #1 pick this year.

  11. bucrightoff Says:

People are still deluding themselves into thinking we’re getting anything, much less a high end, even first round pick? It needs to be 4pm tomorrow already so he can be cut for nothing and we can move on.

  12. Doc Says:

Bring in three more quarterbacks and let the competition begin.

  13. ShutTheBucUp Says:

McCown will be a solid addition. Especially if we draft Johnny Dirtball. With Dirtball’s tendency to scramble, he’ll be injured A LOT with that petite frame of his.

  14. Patrick Says:

Waste of a signing. We already have a quality backup on the roster in Mike Glennon.

  15. BirdDoggers Says:

We’ll still have the 4th best QB in the division, regardless of who wins the starting job. Apparently Lovie doesn’t believe in having a good QB, or a good CB for that matter.

  16. flmike Says:

    Welcome to Lovie Ball,
You got a crappy FA, we’ll sign him…

  17. RealityCheck Says:

Jesus Christ shut your complaining pieholes. We have no clue what the plan is.

  18. Kevin Says:

If he comes here and starts with our current roster of receivers, we will suck. He had Bennett, Forte, Marshall and Jeffery to bail him out. We’ve got sir drops a lot all pro Vincent Jackson and way over payed Mike Williams as our best two options. We have all this money to play with isn’t Josh Gordon a Free Agent??? He’d be my guy to grab

  19. McSiD Says:

I hope he picks the same number as Luke so I can re-wear the old Jersey again.

  20. Nybucsfan Says:

    I do not want mcclown

  21. pick6 Says:

hmm…we haven’t accomplished much of anything since wrongly dumping luke mccown in favor of the truly awful byron leftwich. is signing his brother going to reverse Tampa Bay’s “mccown curse”?

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Worse signing if it happens. Should have waited for someone better.

Let’s say he does start. Where does that leave us when he decides to retire next year?

    Plus McCown is ALL HYPE.

  23. Mr. T Says:

If the Bucs are sincere about wanting a vet in the mix at QB then McCown would be the logical choice for them to sign, would be surprised if he left town without a contract providing his price is reasonable.

  24. Brandon Says:

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Rich Gannon 2.0… hopefully!

  25. Tnew Says:

Maybe he will really suck and we can pick Winston next season.

  26. NY Buc Says:

    At least it’s not Vick
