“That Would Be A Dumb Decision”

April 19th, 2017

Too toxic?

The Joe Mixon debate rages in the Tampa Bay community.

Mixon, the notorious Oklahoma woman-puncher, gets folks worked up — both positively and negatively — no matter what team they root for.

Bucs fans especially wig out about Mixon because the Bucs are running-back-needy, and it sure smells like the Bucs will draft a running back in the first two days of the draft.

Mixon potentially is the most talented, a complete back who can run and catch. He would never have to come off the field. That is, if he isn’t locked up for blasting another innocent woman in the grill.

Yesterday, heard on WDAE-AM 620, on-air personality Tom Krasniqi heard the words from Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, who wouldn’t say Mixon is off the draft board of the Bucs. Krasniqi believes Mixon is toxic and Licht should put to rest any notion of him wearing pewter and red.

“I don’t think there is any way you should touch that guy,” Krasniqi said. “Especially in the second round. Running back is not a value position. It’s not a quarterback. It’s not a left tackle. It’s not a pass rusher. It’s not a cornerback.

“And there are so many running backs in this draft. Don’t get sucked in by [Mixon’s talent].

“I think it would be irresponsible for any team to take Joe Mixon in the first round. … I just think that would be a dumb decision to take him in the first round. The ability is there, there is no question about that.”

As Joe has stated, it would be a major surprise if Licht drafted Mixon, just going on history alone. Licht had every chance in the world to sign documented woman abuser Greg Hardy for a Bucs team that cried out for help and defensive end. Licht wouldn’t touch Hardy because of his past.

And whether one likes it or not, that video of Mixon rearranging that poor girl’s face forcing her to facial reconstructive surgery is never going to vanish.

  2. Architek Says:

I trust whatever Mr Licht believe is the best player to help us become a better team. I don’t believe TKras is qualified to make decisions for a football team. He talk to spark debate as he should, that’s his job. But football matters belong to football qualified and if they select Mixon then he was vetted and will help the team win more games this season.

  3. Joeypoppems Says:

I litterally just said this on yesterdays Cook article Lol.

But, with Licht suggesting Mixon is still on their board. And Booger mentioning that there is an interest in Mixon. And Licht made a comment about not considering fans opinions when drafting…..

    Maybe Mixon is in play?

  4. Eric Says:

Ok now I consider the source TAZZNickie!!! Enough said some screaming jack rabbit has an opinion!!!

  5. Fred E. Buc Says:

As I’ve said before, pass on Mixon. He has crossed the line…any reasonable line for meeting a basic human standard, not just an acceptable player/professional standard. Everybody deserves a second chance, right? Wrong. Not necessarily. This wasn’t a DUI or drunk in public thing. With what Mixon did, he’s the kind of guy that is even hated in prison; a coward. If someone out there thinks Mixon is ready to get a second chance, fine, I wish him well. Let THEM take him. Let them put the women in their communities at risk. Let them have this monsters hanging out in cafes with their daughters. We can find a running back that can be productive and not be a violent criminal or have a broken down body. And I don’t buy the “That’s why the Bucs won’t win a SB” because they don’t want guys like Mixon around.

  6. Joeypoppems Says:

I also like how in this same quote, Krasniqi says “Running Back is not a value position”

So lets go get one in the 1st round. Heck even trade up for one….. Logic!

  7. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

I’ll pass. I understand we do dumb things when we are young, but history has a tendency to repeat itself. I would wager that his immaturity and irresponsibility will continue moving forward. I’m not liking the two RB’s that are garnering this much attention for the bucs. Joe has said enough about Mixon above, and the other has had repeated shoulder surgeries. BPA seems more logical.

  8. Joeypoppems Says:

Also, would Licht back off of Hardy because of his past or did he have reason to believe that Hardy would get into more trouble?

Is it really that crazy to think that Mixon’s incident was an isolated incident and not who he is?

Joe saying “That is, if he isn’t locked up for blasting another innocent woman in the grill.” leads me to believe that Joe thinks he is Greg Hardy 2.0, which I disagree with, but oh well.

  9. redblud Says:

Joe, you wrongfully slandering this man and calling this non innocent woman innocent. This shows your ignorance, and you inability to cover a story about a player in a non biased fashion. I will no longer frequent your site. This actually come off as possibly a little bit, or maybe a whole lot, as racist. It’s even worse when the tape clearly disputes you view of things. I hope you enjoy the glass house your ignorant ass lives in.

  11. 1sparkybuc Says:

You want national attention for your team and a dependable ground attack. Draft Mixon at 19. He has to know any incident could end his career in the NFL. Between Mixon and Hard Knocks the Bucs would be talked about in every corner of the planet. We let Blount get away. We now have to the opportunity to get an effective and durable RB. Get him. Sometimes it takes an asshole to get the job done. Just do it.

  12. Since '76 Says:

WR / TE #1 then RB#2 (not Mixon) and the steal of the entire draft, Joe Williams, RB Utah in the 5th or 6th.

    May 31st, 2016 ← Reflection a year later

It seemed the Bucs and the Cowboys were down to the final two teams interested in Hardy. It sure looked like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht got tired of being used by Hardy’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, as leverage to up the ante and price tag for Jerry Jones. The Cowboys signed Hardy after Licht threw in the towel.

Sounds like Licht did purse Hardy “BEFORE” he signed with the Cowboys.
After he blow up on the Cowboys coaching staff, and DV photo release.
He decided to go another direction.

  14. Josh Says:

Didn’t Jason Licht offer Gregg Hardy a contract but he chose the Cowboys?

  15. Ndog Says:

Again watching his tape and even forgetting the punch I just don’t see it with this guy. I guess I’m the only one but just watch he will be average at best in the NFL.

  16. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I vaguely remember (RB) Maurice Jones-Drew was arrested for some big melee inside restaurant – before the 2006 draft. He drafted stock dropped
And he was eventually Drafted in the 2nd round.

If I recall MarShawn Lynch (though he was never charged) was investigated for sexual assault before the 2007 draft. His girlfriend at the time – was even granted a temporary 100-yard restraining order.

  17. tdtb2015 Says:

I doubt Licht would not take advantage of all the talent in this draft and not make the most of it.

Cook, McCaffrey, stud DT or DE not available @ 19th:

Trade down Licht! Marlon Mack is our RB.

    Solidify our foundation.

    Go Bucs!!!

  18. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If the kid passes the sniff test – Draft’em – our locker room is strong enough.
After a few touchdowns runs – the community will come around.
I mean I still see “TONS” of Sapp Jersey’s – so lets not be hypocrites.

  19. LUVMYBUCS Says:

In for all the folks who can’t forgive a childs dumb mistake.
There’s nothing out there- that says this kid is a serial woman beater.
No ex girlfriends are coming out the wood works – saying ME too.
No indication from highschool Principles, Councelors, or Coaches that he was a problem.

Its been the complete opposite – EVERYONE is supporting the kid.
Everone is saying he’s a good kid – that made a piss poor judgement.

So once again – if he passes the sniff test draft’em.
Cause there’s no denying – that this kid can ball.

  22. Bobby M. Says:

Mixon could be an Ezekiel Elliot type player…or Lawrence Philips. Just based on the one incident, the young man deserves a 2nd chance. However it doesn’t seem like he interviews well and may require “handlers” off the field. Whatever Licht’s process is for judging character, it’s solid and we’ll be good either way

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If she had been a guy, it would have been self defense. Obviously, the judge was biased, as he did not stick to the letter of the law, but rather went with popular opinion.

People can talk about how a man should never intentionally strike a woman, but the truth is that these days there are women who deserve it.

I have never done so, but I have known a couple women who needed a good smack, just as there are men that do. They insist on being treated as equals. They assault men who should have the right to defend themselves.

Joe Mixon was insulted, threatened, shoved and then hit by this woman before he struck her. Self defense.

And let us not forget, it happened years ago. He has not gotten into trouble since.

    HOWEVER.

Drafting him should be because he’s as good as they say on the field, and I don’t fully believe he is. I would not hate him being picked on day three, which, regardless of predictions, I think he will slide that far.

  24. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Funny how Joe directly contradicts his own reporting from last year. The Bucs were doing their best to sign Hardy and the only reason it didn’t happen was because he wanted to play for Dallas and his slimy agent (Rosenhaus) was just using the Bucs to drive the price up. If he’d given a level playing field to the Bucs he’d be wearing pewter with digital clock numbers right now. So no, Mixon hasn’t been ruled out. That much is obvious.

  25. Arealbucsfan Says:

Way off topic, but Aaron Hernandez jus committed suicide

  26. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Lawerence Phillips had a loooooong Juvenile record.
He was a serial woman beater. So I wouldnt take it to that extreme.
But even non offenders – people with no prior records.
Commit some of the most heinous crimes – everday.
    So you never know.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Personally, I like the idea of taking James Conner on the third day. He is a pounding, short yardage back like Alstott who can pass block AND catch the ball.

Perfect replacement for Luke Stocker. Rework Martin’s deal, then sign Peterson. Maybe Peterson will turn Martin around.

I would understand replacing Martin, in fact I prefer it, but I don’t think his drug incident should be the reason unless it continues. As I said before he got paid, Martin is better when he has to prove himself.

Even if we draft a RB, I would sign Peterson. He’s a perfect rolemodel and example.

  28. tnew Says:

I’ve tried to convince myself that he would be a good use of a first round pick and I just can’t. This is without the punch. His tape is good, but not great by a long shot. What Cook and McCaffery do is just better for the modern NFL. I firmly believe that he is the third or fourth best back in the draft (I like his skill set better than Fournette, but Fournette is a throwback and won’t make it past 4). His tape is really, really good but its far from great. His physical traits are very special. However, he looks all the world like a very end of first round to mid second round player. This is without the punch. Guys you must realize, this is now a pass heavy league. Its not going back. The NFL wants less runs.. why, not as visually exciting, more difficult for the average fan to appreciate, less concussions and speeds the game up. How does the NFL phase this out.. easy, make holding on run plays an increased point of emphasis and deemphasize holding on pass plays. It IS happening.

Sooooo, with that RB at 1 makes very little sense, unless you truly believe Cook or McCaffery are the next Faulk or Tomlinson.

My thought is still for this draft first selection should be defensive line. Go pick out your favorite. Mine is Malik McDowell, we can sit down and evaluate tape.

All being said I think the card the Commish will read will be … Dalvin Cook.

“@BB How about walking away and filing charges against the attacker male or female. Do you have to get down to their level??? Is your ego in charge or you?
    Adults know the difference.”

It doesn’t really matter what we would do, what matters is what actually happened. It did happen so the judge should have ruled according to the established laws. He did not. He ruled according to popular opinion.

According to established laws, Mixon was justified and permitted to defend himself.

What we would do would be the popular opinion, but it is not the established law.

The judge was biased, and had Mixon appealed to a higher court, he would have probably won.

  41. Cash Says:

Who cares what Tom Kras whatever thinks… he does not have a draft pick nor does he have the moral credibility to judge anyone else’s character. I don’t care if they draft him or not but i hope it is a decision based on merit and not condemning a young man for making an impulse decision to defend himself when attacked by a drunken racist girl who thought she could slap and spit on another human being while calling him the N-word and not get clapped back.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The law does not care about the abilities of the person assaulting another. It cares about the actions and perceived intentions. As I said, the woman insulted, THREATENED, shoved and then STRUCK Mixon. So she threatened to assualt and then carried out the assault.

So, according to the established laws of this nation, he was justified. The judge was wrong.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If anything, I don’t mind the public judgment because it will make him slide a lot further than people believe, but the team that takes him should do so because of his abilities and potential. The video should not be the only factor, and the only reason it should be any at all is because it calls into question a possible tendency to act without thinking…so that aspect should be explored.

So far as being abusive, its worth questioning him about, but he has not done anything like it since and it was a first time incident that happened years ago. The only reason it is still talked about is the video keeps it fresh.

  44. BuccoDav Says:

Off the field, off the field, how many players in the pass worked out great in the NFL with off the field things? Off the field I believe we have a lot of pass and percent players that have and are working out good on the field that had questions off the field. Mixon just has it on filmed if every other player with off the field got caught on film. I believe you could not even show it on TV. This is more about it being caught on film then what he did. I hate what he did but I also believe in giving him a second chance like the hinders off other players in the NFL. I like to see the buds take defense in the 1st round and Nixon in the 2nd round. I believe the bucs have done there homework and I trust they will do wants right for the team.

  57. Dreambig Says:

If Licht chooses to give Mixon a second chance and draft him, then so be it. I’ll reluctantly support him. We don’t have enough on that video to fully judge what happened, we don’t know what happened outside, we don’t have audio to know what was really said. What we do know is Mixon followed them inside and initiated the confrontation inside the cafe. We don’t know what he said that caused her to react the way she did. Maybe he was such an ass that he deserved for her to come at him the way she did. Maybe she was out of control and overly agressive. We just don’t really know. But come on guys, how many women have you known in your life that could seriously hurt you with a push and a slap. We do ten times worse to each other in any physical sporting event then that girl is capable of delivering. Is it ok to punch a 12 year old boy in the face if he hits you? I know I am way out of modern day political correctness here but give me a break. You don’t punch those weaker than you in the face. If your doing that after elementary school you are a serious loser!!!!!! Stand up! Man up! Be a credit to your gender and don’t pretend its ok to physically abuse those weaker than you.

  65. NJBucFan Says:

The Joe Mixon love is insane, even without the character issues. Have people actually watched him play other than a few highlight runs?

For a guy that is 6’1 225, he runs with little to no power. He runs upright like Fournette and Peterson but lacks the power they do, and he dances at the LoS, at 6’1 225. Almost every positive yardage run and certainly every highlight run he had was with no one even near making contact with him until the 2nd level.

He is at best an upgrade to Charles Sims as a 3rd down back, possibly a downgrade because I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mixon even attempt to block a pass rusher. He’s more electric than Sims in the open field, I’ll give him that, but otherwise he doesn’t bring anything else to the table.

  66. tmaxcon Says:

But because she is a ‘woman’ doesn’t give her the right to spit on, call racial names, or especially touch another human being with the intentions of causing them harm!!! What ever happened to the right to protect yourself?!?! I bet that if she would have known/thought seriously that would be his reaction she wouldn’t have done it! What ever happened to facing the consequences of your actions?! Just because its’ not what you expected doesnt mean there won’t be any!

Kybucfan, let me get your point of view straight. If Mixon is sexually harassing her, like she is saying in the link 1987 posted above, and she gets upset and calls him a racial name, it’s ok for him to bust her in the face, or if she pushes him and slaps him to get him away from her, its ok to deck her? Like I said above, strange ethics indeed.

  70. Mojiska Says:

Anyone saying the kid doeant have power, watch the tape again. I wouldnt say he has power in the way fournette and peterson have or alstott did, but he has a lot of broken tackles. He does a good job at not giving people a good clean shot and runs thru arm tackles. You dont need brute strength power to be able to run between the tackles. He really reminds me of leveon bell when he runs. With that said, 1st round would be bad. 2nd or preferably 3rd. Honestly i think he is in play in the 2nd. Look at licht history in the 2nd. A lot of ballsy moves on either character guys (spence and ASJ), small schools (ali marpet) and positions (aguayo). Not all worked, but his motto seems to say that he thinks 2nd round is where you can gamble on a guy that could be a bust (ASJ) or could be an all pro (marpet is on the way).

  71. Bucsfanman Says:

What works for Jameis is a strong running game…it makes PLAY-ACTION a force to deal with….don’t let the (other) tape block your view of what MIXON has to offer! This is what I don’t like about (Joe), he acts like he knows for sure that MIXON was out to hurt a female any female, he is not a woman beater, at 17 yrs old it’s nothing more than immaturity, his reaction to being accosted by this will forever be on tape for the world to see, just remember he is 20 yrs old now and he’s had no problems, no more being the “OKLAHOMA WOMAN PUNCHER”, if MIXON were White I could see a judge saying the tape will stay sealed, because it would affect his ability to earn a living (white privilege)! To Tom Krasniqi, you sound racist, I mean one misstep makes you toxic…GTFOH! To the Dad who wouldn’t want MIXON around your daughter… Get invoked with you child and teach them how to act in public and if your worried about Mixon’s availability then draft 2 running backs.. Tho I promise you the second RB will never see the field after preseason!!! HE IS THAT DAMN GOOD!

@KY- Nope! Just a generalized statement because if I see it, I sure as heck ain’t standing by idly! The fact that everybody just stood around during and after that incident is pathetic! My point is that that ain’t happening on my watch! Absolutely pathetic!
I hope that most of what’s said on here is all talk. I mean is there any damn humanity left at all?!

  79. Vico Says:

You know what? If it involves trading down from 19, getting a pass rusher late in the first and him still being there in the second, then make Joe Mixon a Buc. But IMO It’s a lot to ask from a situation, it might not happen.

  80. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    **Update

The father of the alleged victim has again RECANTED his allegations against Joe Mixon

    Like I said #FAKENEWS

  81. NFLNut Says:

I LOVE Mixon’s game and feel he could end up being David Johnson 2.0 and the best back out of this draft … BUT … I think there is a .0001% chance the Bucs take him at #19 and maybe only a 10% chance Mixon is still on the board when the Bucs pick in the second round, so … I would be SHOCKED if Mixon becomes a Buc!

  82. CarolinaBucFan Says:

Don’t the Bucs have this huge initiative to get women more involved in the fan base and team? I think it’s called RED or something like that. Why in the world would we back track and draft this dirt bag then?

  83. BigHogHaynes Says:

    @Bucsfanman: where you at ?

  84. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Isn’t this guy the same one who was applauding and marking jokes about Aaron Hernandez suicide today? No better that Tom Jones if you ask me. Tampa sports radio sucks

  85. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

The next David Johnson is going to be Brian Hill. Write that down, screen shot it or something. He’s gonna be a MONSTER

“The better man walks away! It is really THAT simple.
I hope I’m in the same zip code as one of you a$$holes that think hitting a woman is OK. That’s all I’m going to say!”

Sounds like a threat. Better be careful: as we see from this thread, people have the right to self-defense.

And it’s not that “hitting a woman” is okay. It’s that ANYONE hitting ANYONE isn’t okay. Something you apparently haven’t gotten through your head yet.

  87. bmmg39 Says:

Amelia Molitor obviously should have been arrested. A woman hitting a man is no different from a man hitting a woman, and women will continue to commit such assaults until they learn that there will be legal consequences for their actions. Women commit domestic violence against men approximately as often as the reverse occurs, and they, like violent men, need to learn to keep their hands to themselves.
