Koetter Says He Likes It “Clean”

New era

In today’s state of the Buccaneers address at One Buc Palace, Dirk Koetter said for the “first time since I’ve been here,” he saw the Bucs play a “clean game.”

The Bucs had just three penalties last night against the Browns, on the heels of three penalties of the foolish variety in the first seven minutes against Jacksonville just one week ago.

It’s way too early to claim Mike Smith’s penalty-guru ways and Koetter’s altered emphasis have worked. But last night was a great start, and clearly it made an impact on Koetter.

The Bucs challenged for the single-season NFL record last year with 143 penalties in 16 games, falling 15 flags short. So there’s a long way to go.

Keep in mind the Bucs had the second-most offensive penalties in the NFL last year, per Pat Kirwan of SiriusXM NFL Radio, so it’s not as if Koetter is without fault. After all, he was the offensive coordinator.

Great teams can overcome penalties, but the Bucs offense isn’t in that class yet, even if it was last night.

The could not over come last year’s head coach!! Its as simple as that!!! This is what we were screaming for and so happy to see improvements already!!! It was so painful the last 2 years to watch the head coach be the anchor of this team!!!! Now that the huge problem has been fixed, we can finally see what we have on this roster and what needs to be fixed!!!

So exciting to be a Buc fan Now!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!

  2. SB with Jameis Says:

I like it clean too. Clean Shaven.

  3. pick6 Says:

takes more than one game against last year’s 31st-best team to make a trend. i’m pleased but not necessarily convinced our woes are behind us. i liked almost everything i saw last night, but i still need to see it against more talented rosters than Cleveland’s

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

Settle down pick6, no one that is rational is expecting that for 16 games!!! We are just comparing coaching from last year to what we have seen so far!!!!

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

    @SB with Jameis

Good to Know!!! We thought you were old school, running recon thru Vietnam jungle type of guy!!!!!!

  6. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

Are we actually going to be experiencing some Clean Athletics for a change??? Lol got a plug in there oh yeah

  7. unbelievable Says:

If anything can be gleamed from the game (a preseason game mind you), it’s that we should beat all the teams we’re supposed to beat this year. Then we should be able to challenge and beat some of the teams better than us.

Run defense certainly needs to improve, especially when we play teams like Dallas.

  8. SB with Jameis Says:

Lol Realist. If you can grow tomatoes in it then I’m afraid of it. I don’t like to floss while I eat.

  9. SB with Jameis Says:

    Noice Erik!

  10. SB with Jameis Says:

One thing nice about the Pickem we are all in now is None of us will be able to lie about whether we picked the Bucs to win or not cause we can all view each others Picks after the first Game starts each week

  11. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

Everybody should already know that I predict a SB victory.

(And yes, I’m sane) (and, no, I’m not under the influence of any mild-altering substances) (except the euphoric thought of how truly unlimited our potential for Greatness is) 😎

  12. BigHogHaynes Says:

The level of talent is the #1 thing that will turn this club around, not scheme not a coach, don’t pay attention to this false propaganda about coaching, coaches don’t suite up! Players play the game, the better the player, the better the onfield play! SIMPLE AS THAT!

  13. unbelievable Says:

LOL @ SB. I prefer to floss after I eat as well 😉

@BigHog it just kills you that this staff is better than your boy in Illinois huh?

  14. LifeOfABucFan Says:

All I know is that watching Carolina play last night and again today because that’s all NFL Net. play, has me believing we can win our division..Cam looked average at best and the rest of the team didn’t look too good at all..

I am calling it now..Bucs will win the Division…

  15. loggedontosay Says:

I do not get the point Joe because most of the penalties were on the offense.

  16. BucsFanSince89 Says:

I love that picture of Mike Smith and whatever that other coach was..Is like Mike Smith is saying step aside overrated I’ll show you how is done! lol

  17. joe greene Says:

    mmaybe trump will deport kaepernick

  18. AceofAerospace Says:

It looks like Mike Smith is sticking a “Kick Me” or a “I’m a Dumbass” sign on lovies shoulder.

  19. Bucamania Says:

And that was without starting guards Pamphile and Marpet!

  20. Tbbucs3 Says:

Bruce Carter with the blocked punt. He was good but we cut him because of his contract I believe. Licht will have have to get an outside linebacker to eventually replace Darrly Smith.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo likes when you can grow avocados and jalapeños in it….Pablo isn’t picky though”

  22. salish_seamonster Says:

BigHog can’t stand that Koetter’s already proving to be a more effective coach than Losie Smith. This has been the first competent preseason we’ve seen in a while. Seems like Losie was getting guys “Leto High School Ready” with his ineptitude.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I thought Lovie Smith was gone….

  24. Rod Munch Says:

In week 3 of the preseason in 2002 the Bucs lost to the Redskins 40-10.

    Basically preseason means nothing.

  25. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I love you type munch, cynics. But will be the first to proclaim 1976 when Jameis hoist that Lambardi. Why its so difficult for some of you to recognize a ballin @$$ team is beyond me. First it was Famous can’t complete the deep ball✔ then d line can’t get pressure✔Sweezy out o line will struggle✔corners too small✔(and yes Gordon did push Grimes with his left hand)WR dept✔.. What did I forget oh yea Berto no good✔… Ya’ll kill but me,but do me a favor eat ya f@$!in hearts out will ya. We bout to take over the league.

  26. Doctor Stroud Says:

That picture of Smith/Smith was probably taken right before the 56-14 blowout loss in Atlanta during the 2014 season. Although the Bucs won both their games against the Falcons last year, they still need to pay them back for that.

  27. DB55 Says:

Jay Hayes you are the real MVP.

  28. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    Nole…Yes sir!! I agree!!

It’s happening…it’s really happening..and we’ll be able to tell them all “told Ya”..

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BigHog can have that opinion. That just means he can’t ever blame the coaches cause they don’t suit up.

  30. LargoBuc Says:

Doctor Stroud, I have a feeling that payback is coming week 1. I would love nothing more than to send those hicks in Atlanta home by half time. They were talking sooo much spit last year leading up to week 8. They had the Falcons winning as a for gone conclusion, trolling with their Jameis crab leg flags. Time to bring it!

  31. ndog Says:

So bighog bill Walsh had nothing to do with the 49ers succes? And i guess belicheck is just lucky to have such great teams for over a decade. Come on man get a clue or just go away cause your embarrassing yourself.

  32. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

DB you on it,Buccs have 14 sacks this pre season next team not even close. Would’ve been more I honestly believe Gus Bradley ask coach K to tell his dawgs to be easy considering what we did to Wentz. They should’ve never let Hayes and Spawn end up in the Bay. We will lead the league in sacks and pressures this season.

  33. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

BigHog if that was the case we wouldn’t have coaches at all. That’s why a team with a lot of talent can underwhelm with one coaching staff and florish under another. Good coaches utilize the potential of the players bad ones don’t. I can understand your disdain from all these posters up here with all the man crushes up here for Koetter because I couldn’t stand it either but after Fridays game I see the potential of the team under this staff.

  34. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The proof will be how well the Bucs do and how well Illinois does.

  35. The Buc Realist Says:

I stand up and applaud you DavidBigBucsFan99!!! There is potential!!! Now that we have real coaching, we can actually see what will need to be improved on the roster!!! The Exciting part of all this, during games, the schemes will morph and adjust to what is working!!!! We saw some exciting things Friday night scheme wise!!! Did you see the amoeba defense!!!! Where everyone stands up and in the last 2-3 seconds they line up!!! All the browns lineman heads were turning left to right trying to see who was going to jump in front of them!!!! and once the browns o-line was confused in the second quarter, They started to bring the heat with the zone rushes!!!!!

    Every exciting stuff!!!!!!

And don’t be to hard on bighogheinous, from all comments he does not understand scheme’s part of football. and that is all right!!! Some people like the strategy of chess, and some like the simplicity of checkers!!!!!! But my offer still stands big hog heinous, any question you ask we will answer!!! And I recommend you ask as much as you can!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Phil Says:

They did have a very clean game. We also had I think the best officiating crews in the league with referee Brad Allen. His crew doesn’t seen call ticky tack penalties like a got of crews do.
