“Still Working As Hard As He Had To Work”

Is Mike Jenkins poised for his first Bucs start?

Big-money cornerback Alterraun Verner lost his starting gig to Bears castoff and former Pro Bowler Tim Jennings.

Now, Bucs fans hold their breath to see if Verner gets the starting nod Sunday ahead of Mike Jenkins, as it seems Johnthan Banks will be out with a knee injury.

Regular readers here know Joe is no fan of journeyman Jennings, a favorite of Lovie Smith.

The official-but-not-really defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier explained today that Verner’s demotion is really about Jennings.

“I think it’s more about what Tim can bring to the table,” Frazier said at One Buc Palace.

Frazier went on to say Jennings is simply shining brighter in practice and in games. That puzzles Joe a bit, considering Jennings seems like he’s holding a lot to compensate for speed issues related to his health. Jennings when he arrived about a month ago, said he wasn’t quite 100 percent yet following offseason knee surgery.

There was no hint of a finger wag at the likeable Verner, who Frazier said is “still working as hard as he had to work.”

Joe’s glad the Bucs have cornerback depth — and that the Panthers’ receiving corps, led by Ted Ginn, Jr., shouldn’t scare any decent secondary.

So for all the Lovie supporters I’d just like to point out that Ron Riveras ball club is 3-0 and division champs two years in a row.

I only bring this up bc for the last two years I’ve been saying that Lovie is nothing without Ron Rivera and I hope you can see it now.

I hope banks heals quickly..he’s our best corner..as long as we can stop the run (cam included) we should win this low scoring defensive slug fest..looking for jameis to have a decent day since this is the same defense he faces during practice…GO BUCS!!!

Riverboat Ron!!!! LMFAO!!! He was on the verge of getting fired then he turned that $hit around. At least he knows how to adjust and make changes.

I hate to say it, but the way the Secondary has looked as of late. Ted Ginn Jr. may just get over 100yds. receiving… And we can’t ever seem to stop Greg Olsen. Just being honest!

This is 2012 scary or whatever year that was when we had the no name corners, now we just have the aged corners, let these young guys develop, if they are not then you are not teaching or not a good talent evaluator
