Lovie’s Line: 10 Home Losses, 4 Blowouts

October 4th, 2015

Glazerlovie

The Bucs were far more competitive in their first two home games of 2014, than in their first two home games of 2015.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Derrick Brooks and Mike Alstott are telling Bucs fans they need to be patient.

Lovie Smith says the Bucs “are on the verge.”

Then why does every other Bucs fan Joe talks to think otherwise?

We can’t all be stupid.

Under Lovie Smith, the Bucs are 0-10 at home with four home blowouts, including today against Carolina and opening day against Tennessee.

That is not progress. It doesn’t represent hope. And it’s unthinkable.

Bucs fans can’t convince themselves that the Bucs just had some bad bounces today and it wasn’t their day. Joe is confident, with all due respect to Alstott and Brooks, the Bucs have serious problems.

Lovie shook up the defense benching Alterraun Verner and George Johnson, who lost his gig today to William Gholston. Lovie’s beloved Mike Jenkins started and cornerback. It didn’t matter. The Bucs shut down Greg Olsen but receiver Brenton Bersin had a career day, catching everything thrown his way.

The Bucs are not responding to their head coach. The NFL is a league with great competitive balance. It doesn’t feel like the Bucs belong in the club.

A loss to the Jaguars in Tampa next week would sink the team to an unthinkable depth, one that should send a loud message into the owners’ suite.

Get an offensive minded, non-retread to replace him. With how great Atlanta’s offense looks, I’d kinda like Kyle Shannahan.

  2. Bucnut@ Says:

I’m no Lovie fan but today’s loss was all about America’s QB. Nice diversion try Joes

  3. Ray Rice Says:

    Muthafukin pathetic!

  4. Joseph Mamma Says:

Not sure anyone is expecting them to beat the Jags so they won’t sink any further. Already at the bottom of the septic tank.

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

If Derrick Brooks and Mike Alstott are on board for the pirate ship sinking at RJS when the Bucs lose, then that is the only way I will have patients!!!!!

  6. Brent Says:

I’m not for firing coaches halfway into season and then having lame duck assistants. I say keep Lovie until end of year. If he gets 6 wins bring him back if not tampa media should call for bucs to hire consulting firm made up of gurus like polian wolf parcels to find bucs new coach. We should not rely on glazers again their 0-3 if Lovie fails. 3 strikes and ur out!!

  7. DB55 Says:

Take away the 5 TOs and we played a great game.

  8. WalkdaPlank Says:

Would be smart to start searching for a replacement now and have a good idea of who you want running this team after Lovie’s departure. How many head coaches have led their team to two back to back top 5 draft picks and survived to coach that same team?

  9. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

is Lovies defense really that more complicated than Dan Quinn’s? Than Rex Ryan’s?

  10. DB55 Says:

    “We can’t all be stupid”

Not only stupid but ungrateful too, according to some.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It really doesn’t matter why we lost today….we lost. Lovie is the head coach and he is responsible.
Our defense is looking better and has played well enough the last two weeks for us to win. Some can argue that….but I think the evidence shows that our offense and kicking game was a disaster.

All are giving Koetter great credit for playcalling….if this is true, why do we perform so poorly?……..we just don’t execute….and that starts with Winston.

Today his timing was off….he stumble, hesitated, stared down recievers….missed open recievers…threw into coverage….about every mistake you could make.

You just can’t expect the defense to pick up the offense everytime they fail.

  12. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I hate to say it but the longer this goes on your only option will be to trade away most of the team and start from scratch. I’d rather see a rebuild than trying to save a poorly built team.

  13. Marksalot Says:

Can’t win throwing 4 interceptions, but then again I didn’t expect us to win. Before we turn this around Lovie has to go…bottom line.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Joe they keep telling me that this guy is better than Schiano…

  15. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Glazer boys have no earthly idea what they are doing. Either sell the team or bring in a real CEO to take over for you guys.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

lol DB55…that was a shot across the bow. Care to name, names? lol

  17. Bucnut@ Says:

I agree with STBU. let the fire sale begin. Can we get 2 number 1’s for some team stupid enough to trade for JW? if so, I make that trade now. Who about a second round pick for LVD? A number 2 for Gerald? Who about a third round pick for Doug? Other than Evans who i specail, let’s trade everyone, kick out L&L and start over!!

  18. BucFan20 Says:

You don’t understand. They are tanking already.

  19. DB55 Says:

    BONZAI

  20. mdc1969 Says:

Hey look, Joe finally posts a picture of the real culprits……The GLAZER BOYS!!!! 3 Head coaches and 2 GMs since Chuckie and they have all sucked! They are the only constant.

  21. DefenseRules Says:

Tampabaybucfan … Agree that the defense is looking better, although not nearly as good as they need to be for the Bucs to have a winning team. Had Jameis played as good a game as Cam Newton from a turnover perspective (0 INTs and 0 Fumbles), and Brindza not left 7 points on the table, the Bucs may well have won today’s game.

  22. J Says:

Should have fired him adter day 1 of draft

  23. bucrightoff Says:

The defense played well for a half, but after the Dickson TD it seemed like they sort of gave up and were too deflated by that. Horrible break sure but it’s only a 2 score game. After that Carolina had a couple easy drives were the moved the ball without much resistance. Carolina also has very bad skill players besides Olsen, who they got from Lovie for a 3rd round pick. Yuck.

  24. J Says:

Joe you need to go too! ( Manziel, Winston) you suck

  25. Tampa Tony Says:

Took the 49ers ten years of top draft picks and multiple head coaches until they got Harbaugh. It may take the Bucs that long as well

  26. poor glennon Says:

Winston should be benched. He was not ready week 1 and he’s not ready now. The thought that he is NFL ready. Was dispelled in the preseason. Anyone with the gift of sight could see that. He’s not improving. He could use watching a consistant QB with good footwork and accuracy.Buc’s brass gave up on the season the second Winston trotted out.

  27. RCH Says:

Anyone looking for tickets for when the Bucs play the Cowboys? I have some for sale….

  28. J Says:

Meanwhile rookie records fall in Nashville

  29. J Says:

    @rch I got 5 dollars for ya

  30. FireLovieNow Says:

I agree with J. Joe needs to along with Winston. Once again Winston lost this game for Bucs.

  31. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Hey @J didnt one of the preschoolers here tell you that you’re not a “real fan” unless you tow the company line on Winston? How dare you! Winston is the savior of the franchise! It will just take patience! A huge inhuman amount of patience!

  32. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

I agree poor Glennon….I’m not saying Winston won’t get better in time, but damned if I dont honestly believe Glennon gives the team the best chance to win NOW. These blowout losses are terrible to watch…I feel like it’s 2011 and we’re stuck in Groundhog Day watching Lovie Smith starring as Raheem Morris.

  33. J Says:

@STBU thank you for opening my eyes. I need to go pray.

  34. Danr Says:

Bucs defense gave up 17 points today… by my count. I dont want to blame the fluke fumble bounce on the d.

  35. BucTrooper Says:

666 days since the last home win.

  36. PhillyBuc Says:

So glad I bought the “Ticket” again this year to watch this trash. So far my ROI has been a severe migraine @ about 1:29pm each Sunday. Thank you Lovie, you washed up excuse of a HC. Please go back to your basement

  37. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

No, No! It’s okay, just be patient! They’re getting better because the radio talking heads and the coaching staff and players say so. Even though they aren’t winning, they are getting better! It’s not about winning, it’s about the self comfort of making millions and telling people you are getting better! LOl!

  38. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

Just broke the home record for consecutive losses! They are getting better! Just be patient! LOL!

  39. BrianBucs Says:

Can’t wait to see how many times this week that Lovie says “We’re close, very close.” Close to what? Fans wearing paper bags again?

    _______________________________________________________________

Pretty much. We need to find our Harbaugh to take us to the next level. Its clearly not this coach or his staff.

  41. StPeteBucsFan Says:

There will be time to fire Lovie and blow up the team. In the meantime we have a disaster on our hands and it’s not just coaching!

It might be time to let Fameis watch awhile from the sidelines. No I’m not suggesting he’s a bust, I am suggesting that he’s not ready for the NFL…YET!

MG8 could easily manage a game better than #3 right now. Perhaps a little perspective would also improve #3’s play. I’m not sure that he’s not color blind and I’m being serious. Does he not see the other team’s players?

To make the EXACT same mistake on an early pick six as he did in game one…now in game four is simply unacceptable. Enough with the excuses.

Put in the players that gives us the best chance to win right now. This game was over in the first quarter!!! Our defense shows some promise. They are inconsistent for sure but how can we expect them to act with the turnover machine at QB. It gets depressing trying to come back from double digit leads early in the first quarter!!!!

You have broken Joe(s) First Commandment:

THOU SHALT NOT CRITICIZE THE CHOSEN ONE!

  43. GhostofSchiano Says:

    FIRE LOVIE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. Bucnut@ Says:

STJu- I was laughed at for suggetisgn JW was NOT pro ready, that QB’s don t become more acute in the NFL over college and that I preferred the quiet leader MM over the more vocal JW. I was called a HATER because i did not think JW was worth the #1 overall pick. You are right, you can’t dissent about JW, if you dare to, you are taking your life in your hands! Just ask FSUKing he has been blasting me and he KNOWS QB’s

  45. Bucnut@ Says:

    suggesting and accurate.

  46. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

To those calling for Jameis to be benched, c’mon. You can’t do that. You let the kid play. Let him take his lumps. It’s part of what every NFL future star QB ahead to go through to get better. There’s no guarantee he will become a star. And there’s no guarantee he will be better than Mariota. There never was. But he’s here and we have to let him live, play, and learn. There will be more days like this. No doubt.

Here’s a little perspective. I’m a Gator. I remember when the Gators used to make Peyton look like a total flop with a noodle arm, who was constantly in a state of panic. Many SEC fans thought he would wilt in the NFL because of his performance in big college games. And he was terrible his rookie year.

I’ve been watching the NFL since 1970. I’m not saying Jameis is Peyton. And Jameis was terrible today. But he still flashed. And I personally think he will ultimately be a star.

At the end of the day, the real problem with this team is the owners. They are clueless. They were not athletes as kids. Maybe they were Dolphins fans growing up but that is about it in terms of football background. They were not successful business people like their dad either. Lucky sperm club members is their only qualification to run this team.

But there must be someone close to them who can speak truth to power: boys, you need to fire yourselves. There’s no shame in admitting you can’t get it done. Reorganize and restructure this franchise from the top. Firing Lovie and Licht won’t accomplish anything if they remain in charge. Period. Full Stop. End of Conversation.

And finally there’s this – Bucs Fan Since ’76’s law when it comes to the Bucs is that Murphy was optimistic.

  47. meat Says:

Fire him immediately- promote Dirk to HC for the rest of the year and let him earn a HC extension!!!!! Lovie is in over his head and Jameis is proving that his supporting cast made him what he was. Look at Freeman in ATL today- he has a zillion pros around him. He doesn’t now lol.

  48. meat Says:

I hate Jameis and I dont want him benched. Lets see if he is a bust or not. Let him take his lumps- my guess is he ends the year on IR with that Leftwich-like release.

  49. The Buc Realist Says:

I cannot believe that some “real” Buc fans, are calling for another whole year of all this!!!!!

    ______________________________________________________________

The Dolphins current situation is why you should fire too early rather than too late. And we look significantly worse than they ever have under Philibin until now.

  51. Marksalot Says:

Bucs fan ’76 is spot on! We went from Culverhouse to the Glazers, both of which have done a poor job but still make millions. Need an owner with a passion for winning and that will trickle down.

  52. Aaron Says:

Not ready to give up on JW

But lovie has been in this game a long time…I’m not even sure what good coach really wants to come here…I’m tired of my football season being over before the 2nd week in October

I’ve tried to defend lovie, but the new NFL has passed him by…running on 1st down over and over…no imagination at all

  53. pittbucfan Says:

And guess what???? Next week…..they(we) will lose.

  54. Mark Says:

Surprising that people the actually think Lovie gets fired. Glazers are done with the coaching carousel. Lovie gets 3 seasons. Glazers are going to want to stay the course. Players aren’t making plays. Can’t put it entirely on Lovie.

  55. unbelievable Says:

I can’t put today’s loss on Lovie nearly as much as the others. The defense played okay, they were on a short field most of the game. Today’s game was on JW and Brindza. They just had horrible games today. The oline actually blocked decently and the run game was there (minus the up the gut on every 1st down). Defense isn’t good enough but they were getting stops early. We just kept giving the panthers the ball back.
