Brian Clark Talks To Joe

August 12th, 2009

Wide receiver Bryan Clark, with just five career receptions, is hoping to secure the No. 3 WR position.

Before firing up a post-practice Bucanero, Joe caught a few minutes with wide receiver Brian Clark on Tuesday. The 25-year-old from Tampa is eager to play under the lights Saturday.

Joe: One of the bigger battles coming into training camp was at the No. 3 wide receiver position. How do you think you’re performing?

Clark: I can do better. I can always do better. That’s always my aim. Doesn’t matter, you know, how many plays I make make in practice. … Coach Mann, he’s one of those guys, ‘I want to see what you’re going to do in the game when the lights come on.’ So as of right now, I’m going to continue to say I can do better. Then when the game comes in I’m still going to say I can do better.

Joe: Talk about your experience with the Bucs. You’ve been on the roster and had a training camp and preseason action here before.

Clark: And then being able to get moved up and trying to help Rich Bisaccia on special teams [in 2008].It’s given me the greatest experience of being here last year and seeing what the organization is like, what the games are going to be like, what the heat is going to be like, what some of our divisional opponents are like. So I think I do have a little leg up as far as that’s concerned.

Joe: You grew up in Tampa, you played for Chamberlain High School. You probably followed the Bucs your whole life. How incredible is it for you to play for the Bucs?

Clark: It’s kind of one of those surreal type things. I’ve never been a surreal type of guy, but I guess that’s kind of what it is. Being able to grow up right down the street. To remember old Houlihan’s Stadium, remember when it got knocked down, remember when they changed colors, remember when the team was really bad, and remember when we brought in Sapp and Lynch and Alstott. So just to know be part of the organization and have that Tampa Bay Buccaneers flag on the side of my helmet is just a surreal thing. I get excited about it. My wife and I are from Tampa. We have a house in Tampa. We’re raising our son here in Tampa. God just has been so good to allow us to remain here and just enjoy ourselves.

Joe: Do you like having training camp at home?

Clark: Absolutely. I enjoy it. I look over to the side and get to see my son and my wife and see them out there, and they’re in the hot sun cheering for me. It’s a great benefit and a great thing to have. Orlando, there are things that can be said for going away for camp. For me, I just love being around my family. …I’m glad the Glazers and Coach Raheem decided to do it.
