Don’t be fooled.
The Bucs made it close at the end, but this game was lost at the start — that awful start. While the Cardinals came out aggressive, Tampa Bay came out flat.
How does that happen?
The Bucs have played two road games in 2017 and they’ve looked awful in both of ’em. Don’t trust the final score — trust your eyes.
The Bucs are now below .500 for the first time in almost a year and Jameis Winston could miss his first NFL start. Add it all up and this team gets a big, fat “D” at this point of the season. [read more]
Early loaf today
It’s simply inexcusable for a defensive player, a 22-year-old player, to give a half-assed effort in the first quarter of a professional football game. [read more]

Joe’s not about to throw roses — not even plastic ones — at the Bucs’ messy defense today, but Lavonte David deserves a nod of appreciation. [read more]
Takes blame.
Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter pulled no punches in his postgame presser today. And he squarely stood in front of the firing squad and took full blame for the utter debacle of a Bucs loss. [read more]
Outmuscled
The read-between-the-lines crowd is going to attack Joe after reading this and, as usual, they’ll be dead wrong screaming “agenda” and “hater.” [read more]

No, it’s not Mike Smith’s fault that Buccaneers defensive ends have just one sack this season. That unthinkable travesty is about talent, as in lack thereof.
But the Lovie Smith defense rolled out today is on the Bucs’ new defensive coordinator. [read more]
Slow starts can no longer be ignored.
If long-time readers of this here website remember, Joe once called upon the Bucs to hire a consultant (at the time, Joe suggested Marty Schottenheimer) to help figure out a glaring problem. [read more]
Unfortunately, this five-point road loss feels like a heck of a lot more than just a rough day, one in which your franchise quarterback busted up his shoulder early in the game.
If feels like an indictment of the franchise from top to bottom. [read more]
He’s back!
Comment all game long with intense and sometimes ludicrous Bucs fans. Great fun! More than 1,300 comments last game.
Keep it clean. And reserve the personal attacks for Cardinals players, not each other (Joe’s filters are tuned up extreme haters.)

Go Bucs!

If Phil Simms is correct, we will find out today just how miserable the edge rush of the Bucs is (what edge rush?). [read more]

Think pressure is more important than sacks. OK, the Bucs are last in the league at pressure.
Once upon a time, during the great 10-6 season of 2010, the Bucs won games with no significant pass rush. Defensive ends that year totaled — totaled! — just 10.5 sacks.
That’s why the Bucs ran out in 2011 and drafted Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quan Bowers. [read more]

Newest Cardinal, Adrian Peterson
So what kind of running back will Adrian Peterson be bearing down on the Buccaneers’ run defense today?
Well, a guy studying Peterson for the past six months says Peterson was such a beast through training camp that it’s a complete unknown what will happen when/if the Cardinals actually give him a chance in an offense that suits his game. [read more]
