Johnny Football impresses Glennon
Sean Glennon, Mike Glennon’s brother, was cut by the Vikings in 2009 after a solid quarterback career at Virginia Tech, where he was once the MVP of the ACC Championship game.
Nowadays, Glennon, 28, checks in as a football analyst on Delaware sports radio, 1290 AM. And it’s no surprise that he watches plenty of film and likes to break down quarterbacks. (more…)

Is GM Jason Licht molding the Bucs after the Cardinals?
Lovie Smith and Jason Licht have stated publicly that Bucs fans don’t deserve another rebuilding stage. Given the fact the Bucs haven’t won a playoff game in 12 years, not since Chucky hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft in victory, that’s a damned long time. (more…)

Joe recommends the latest “Meet The Coaches” feature on Buccaneers.com. Scott Smith goes deep with new defensive line coach Joe Cullen, Gerald McCoy’s sixth defensive line coach in five years.
Cullen, whose voice could land him in Mafia films, hits on a lot of topics in the roughly six-minute video, which prompted Joe to dive into further research. (more…)

Joe expects DL Will Gholston to play a key role this fall.
Joe wonders how many Bucs fans were thrown out of bars across the Tampa Bay area when they hurled beer at TVs after watching opposing quarterbacks have so much time in the pocket to throw. These QBs could have clipped their toenails and not been sacked.
Poor Gerald McCoy. He may be the best defensive tackle in the game and he got absolutely scant help trying to breathe on a quarterback. So when Bucs coach Lovie Smith took over, he wasted scant minutes (seconds?) in beefing up the defensive line. As a result, Joe thinks the defensive line is just fine. (more…)

A pair of BSPN types believe Bucs backup QB Mike Glennon is trade bait.
The Mike Glennon Mob has come to grips with the fact their hero, barring injury to Josh McCown or the Bucs not drafting a quarterback next month (something Joe will lay cash that the Bucs indeed will do) will not start for at least two years.
That doesn’t mean the MGM has given up hopes that Glennon will someday rescue the Bucs from their postseason winless purgatory. (more…)

Akeem Spence
Bucs defensive tackle Akeem Spence did not commit the allegedly brutally heinous acts of having a mattress on his front lawn, a stripper pole in his living room, a sibling’s knife in his thigh, or hosting a loud house party. But Spence was pinched by Alabama police in January for allegedly barreling down the highway at 100+ miles per hour with a chunk of weed.
Today, Spence was scheduled for a “bench trial” in rural Alabama. (more…)

Josh Norris of Rotoworld.com believes Vincent Jackson needs help from a drafted wide receiver
Yes, the Bucs loaded up on defensive players in free agency. The Bucs went from an OK defense to maybe a top-tier defense with Lovie Smith taking over the reigns.
If anyone can build a strong defense, it is Lovie. So Joe believes the defense will be just fine. It is the offense that needs talented bodies. (more…)

.
Even with all the media coverage of the NFL, there still exists a secretive blossoming underworld inside many franchises. It’s a world where spreadsheets and hard drives and stats geeks try to craft an edge with information.
The Bucs hired their own master of numbers this year, Tyler Oberly. So Joe finds it interesting that Mr. Oberly shared an analysis earlier this month from his old website, TheSidelineView.com. (more…)

Another national insider claims Lovie is lovestruck
The smoke continues to seep out of One Buc Palace, and the odor reveals the Bucs are hunting for a quarterback in next month’s draft. And some paid to read the smoke are convinced the target of the hunt is none other than Johnny Football. (more…)

Reinforcements have to be coming to bolster the Bucs’ offensive line. It has to happen.
The O-line, right now, is far too thin. Here’s the breakdown, in case you forgot.
Thankfully the Bucs have time, and one full-time draft analyst believes Tampa Bay is likely seeking a gigantic target in the third round. (more…)

Forget 2013, Lovie says.
Just thinking of last season, Joe’s stomach turns a little and generates acid reflux. Or maybe that was the Crown and Coke Zero Joe was drinking last night?
The 2013 season for the Bucs was enough to turn anyone’s stomach. Losing the first eight games, watching leaky, sleepy Rip Van Freeman go mental and try to tear apart the locker room, the MRSA, the list goes on. It was so bad it shouldn’t be forgotten. (more…)

Could it be that every single quarterback in the draft will be on the board when it comes time for the Bucs to pick at No. 7 overall?
Well, that’s what fight-instigating, barista-training, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball box score-reading Peter King of SI.com and NBC Sports Fame is hearing from his vast array of sources. Gerald McCoy is labeled one of only two strong draft picks from the first three years of Mark Dominik’s regime
No, Joe makes no apologies for being in the corner of former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik. Joe knew what his vision was for the Bucs and it made all the sense in the world.
But no matter how your vision goes, at the end of the day it boils down to wins and losses and there were far more losses with Dominik at the helm than there were wins. In retrospect, the only winning season the Bucs had under Dominik was fluky, beating a bunch of lousy teams in 2010. (more…)

Joe would not wager on Doug Martin’s future in Tampa Bay.

Mike Florio is no fan of former Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Chucky.
It takes a lot for Joe to watch Monday Night Football. As much of a footballaholic that Joe is, the Monday Night Football telecast is a chore to watch.
Sure, Joe enjoys and appreciates Mike Tirico, very much an underrated play-by-play man. He’s almost enough for Joe to tune into alone. But then there is his partner, color man, Chucky. (more…)

Johnny Football is on the Bucs’ radar, so reports Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
The following is music to Joe’s ears. The problem is, April is Smokescreen Month.
It seems Johnny Football is not just Joe’s second-favorite dream, second only to Rachel Watson cooing Joe to join her for a long, heavy-breathing shower escapade. It seems the possibility of Bucs general manager Jason Licht calling Johnny Football’s name during the NFL draft next month is a real possibility, not just Joe’s fantasy. (more…)

Many assume the Falcons, with the No. 6 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft, one slot before the Bucs, will pounce on the best available offensive lineman or pass rusher.
As their general manager Thomas Dimitroff has said, he acutely understands the need to protect their $100 million investment in Matt Ryan, one of three NFC South quarterbacks better than the Bucs’ current QBs. (more…)

How often is an elite quarterback available on the free agent market? Rarely.
How often is an elite wide receiver up for the highest bidder? Every darn year; and it’s usually more than one pass catcher. Heck, three were on the market last year. (more…)

It wasn’t too long ago that Team Glazer decided the best way to a winner was to quit shelling out big bucks to marginal, aging players, and to build through the draft. On paper, it wasn’t a bad idea.
The dynasties of the NFL had always stocked their foundations with sound draft picks. In later years when free agency became a thing, then those teams might plugged a hole or two by buying a player. (more…)

Pro Football Focus compares Alterraun Verner (above) with Darrelle Revis, and D.J. Moore offers reality on Lovie’s defense.
Though Joe has gotten over it, Joe still finds it a negative when a team willing waves goodbye to a future Hall of Famer in the prime of his career. Yes, yes, yes, Joe knows all about Darrelle Revis’ salary and how the Bucs spread the wealth around.
While the thought of losing Revis still irks Joe, the stat nerds over at Pro Football Focus believe the Bucs couldn’t have done much better in who they replaced Revis with, Alterraun Verner. (more…)

It was a special day. Joe’s usual Wednesday “JoeBucsFan Hour” with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, was rescheduled for today at 5 p.m.
Of course, Joe talked about all kinds of subjects. Enjoy! And don’t forget Joe’s got plenty for you on Saturday and all through the weekend.
