The newest member of the Bucs Ring of Honor averaged 13.5 sacks in his first five seasons in Tampa. Signed as a free agent from Arizona in 2001, Rice was an integral component of a 2002 defense that has few peers. “Now I’m in a situation where I can really blossom and get into the genius of my game,” he said upon joining the Bucs “I think it’s going to take this defense to heavenly heights.” Rice also posted seven sacks and four forced fumbles in five playoff games with Tampa Bay. He dropped league MVP Rich Gannon twice and forced a fumble in the Super Bowl. (more…)

He’s back in the Ring of Honor and back on the Buccaneer bandwagon.
To say Jon Grudden is bullish on Tampa Bay’s fortunes this fall is a massive understatement. He loves the roster Jason Licht has forged and he has complete confidence Todd Bowles can bring out the best in a young, deep group. (more…)

Tony Mayberry No. 19. Antoine Winfield Jr. No. 18. Warrick Dunn No. 17. Chris Godwin No. 16. James Wilder
15. Jimmie Giles
The third member selected for the Buccaneer Ring of Honor was a tight end with rare downfield speed. He still ranks 10th in career receptions, sixth in receiving yards and third in TD catches for Tampa Bay — although his final season with the Bucs was 1986. Giles caught four TD passes against the Dolphins in a 1985 game, prompting Hall of Fame coach Don Shula to remark, “I can’t remember any tight end dominating us that way.” From 1980-82, Giles averaged 18 yards per catch and made three Pro Bowls. 20. Tony Mayberry
Mayberry’s 145 starts are the sixth-most in Tampa Bay history. A fourth-round pick in the 1990 draft, he didn’t miss a game in his final nine seasons. He earned Pro Bowl berths in his last three years as a Buc and anchored the offensive line for a decade before Jeff Christy arrived in 2000. (more…)

25. Donald Penn
A 7-year starter at left tackle, Penn proved to be a solid blind-side protector for Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Brian Griese, Josh Freeman, Byron Leftwich and Mike Glennon. He never missed a game for Tampa Bay and was whistled for only 10 holding penalties as a Buccaneer. He made the 2010 Pro Bowl and caught two TD passes for Tampa Bay. He was released in 2014 after the ill-fated signing of Anthony Collins. (more…)

In keeping with five decades of Buccaneer football, I am counting down the 50 most notable players in franchise history. The lone criteria is their production in a Buc uniform.
No. 50 – Mark Cotney No. 49 – Mike Washington No. 48 – Richard “Batman” Wood No. 47 – Aqib Talib No. 46 – Ricky Reynolds No. 45 – Keyshawn Johnson No. 44 – Ricky Bell No. 43 – Vincent Jackson No. 42 – Mark Carrier No. 41 – Donnie Abraham No. 40 – Cadillac Williams No. 39 – Joey Galloway No. 38 – Kevin House No. 37 – Davin Joseph No. 36 – Shelton Quarles No. 35 – Michael Pittman No. 34 – Leonard Fournette No. 33 – Donovan Smith No. 32 – Rob Gronkowski No. 31 – Doug Martin
No. 30. Baker Mayfield
With 69 TD passes in his first two seasons under center in Tampa, Mayfield already ranks seventh on Tampa Bay’s career list, only 11 behind No. 3 Josh Freeman. His 100.7 passer rating as a Buccaneer is No. 1, ahead of Tom Brady, and Mayfield set a franchise mark last season with a 71.4 completion percentage. Mayfield’s 19 wins are halfway to the club record for quarterbacks, accomplished by Trent Dilfer in six years. (more…)
