Healthy Cody Mauch Is A Major Factor

To hear KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles speak of right guard Cody Mauch, the Bucs never did recover from his season-ending knee injury.
Mauch blew out his knee in the second game of the year at Houston very late in the game. He had to have surgery.
Mauch is a walking example of what the Bucs want their offensive line to be: big, bruising, hustling, hard-working.
Just go watch Emeka Egbuka’s 16-yard touchdown catch against Houston last year. Who is escorting Egbuka into the end zone? Mauch. That’s hustling.
And Mauch, like the guy to his right, Luke Goedeke, isn’t afraid to mix it up with mouthy defenders.
Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio recently, Bowles spoke glowingly of Mauch and said just having him back is a major improvement.
“Cody was huge, you know,” Bowles said. “He was our mauler and he was our brawler. You know, Cody can get off the ball, and he carried a lot of weight moving people off the pile in our run game.
“So that was a huge loss for us.”
Joe thinks the Bucs offensive line — the starters — are damn good. Joe’s been typing for years he believes the Bucs’ offensive line is the third-best in the league.
And like Baker Mayfield’s grit and hustle does, teammates see Mauch mix it up with defenders or mauling guys at the line or escorting a ballcarrier into the end zone 16 yards downfield. That sort of play rubs off on everyone.

Didn’t play a snap together last season. Hope they can stay healthy this year. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen them play like a top unit. Until they do, they haven’t.

Baker brings the attitude. Mauch brings the dental plan.
If Mauch and Goedeke stay healthy, Tampa’s right side isn’t an offensive line. It’s a property-clearing operation.
Most guards protect the quarterback. Mauch looks like he’s protecting a family secret.

Cody Mauch is an excellent example of player development. The first two years he was in Tampa, many fans wanted him gone.
A good example of why fans need to be more patient.

As a pass blocker he is average; as a pulling guard he is excellent.

Love Mauch. We have no replacement for him if he goes down. Same with every O lineman. Too many irreplaceable guys on offense. JL lets us down again by doing nothing to get some depth, unless you’re satisfied with turnstile Feeney. Skule and Chuk are the prayers JL has provided off the dumpster pile and there is no excuse for Feeney. As long as the starters stay healthy, we have a chance. The likelyhood is slim they make it all year, however. Hope is not a strategy, it’s the mantra for JL.

and the glass eater being right next to him probably gets him even more amped up…

Fans opinions of players performances matters to a point. Some opinions are borderline ridiculous. When the Bucs were healthy they started out with multiple wins but injuries ended the Bucs hope to even win their division.
Right now the Bucs appear healthy going into the seasons opening game. It’s a long season. Injuries happen. The key is how reliable are our bacs? Their play will determine the Bucs season and a playoff run.

Deff one of the better Olines in football. 23 and 24 are perfect examples of it. They also have developed better since then. Last year the injury bug hit. It happens. Our ROH GM deff knows how to build a OLine.
