“Bonus” Day For Bucs Players

October 14th, 2025

Two days before the Bucs played Seattle, Joe asked Todd Bowles if the Seahawks having three more days off after a Thursday night game was an advantage because the Bucs were coming off a traditional week.

Bowles said there is no advantage other than rest.

Well, the Bucs went out and beat Seattle and then followed that up by taking out the 49ers, a team also coming off 10 days rest. The Bucs took the “rest edge” data and shredded it.

So it was interesting when Bowles spoke yesterday on Sirius XM NFL Radio about the Bucs’ schedule leading up to the Lions game in Detroit on Monday night.

Bucs players will report back to work Wednesday for what Bowles called a “bonus” day to “try to get a head start on Detroit that way.”

He noted that on Thursday, the team will resume its normal pregame schedule.

“Thursday will become Wednesday and Friday will become Thursday and so forth and so on,” Bowles said. “So coaching wise, we’ll get an extra day and sit down and look film and some people can get a couple more hours of sleep and then we’ll get right back at it.”

Yes, the Bucs put this “extra rest” crap to pasture.

And tell me it’s not all Baker firing this team up. With that 14 yard will not be denied run. That was a clip you’ll see in his HOF video.

The coaches may need a mental break, too.

  5. Aqualung Says:

Unbelievable. Somehow we can hear that awful old pop tune “I’m a Barbie girl in a Barbie world” every time we see the capitalization / exclamation mark maroon shake her Pom Poms vigorously with no sense of objectivity or reality.

  6. Coconut Doughnut Says:

It appears the bye week is perfect timing as usual this year.

  7. KABucs Says:

A great team will beat a rested good team most of the time… even with a bunch of injuries we’re starting to find out.
Great time to be a bucs fan.

  8. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

2 games before our bye week, our staff and players will get the time to regroup soon enough. Just get us there at 7-1 and as healthy as possible.

  9. Woodman Says:

Looks like 813 is now living rent free in your head Ironlung. Still the same troll. Keep up the good work 813.

It would not surprise me in the least to find out Feisty Bake, LVD, and quite a few other players are already studying film and doing their homework. The only guys not doing it are on IR, or won’t be playing on Monday nite. They are talking to their coaches quietly with no distracting fanfare. These guys are doing it voluntarily. That’s the definition of a TEAM. I have nothing but enormous respect for this whole krewe. We have a for-real chance to sneak up on Motown. GO BUCS, 6-1!!

  11. Billy Bucco Says:

IronLung also continues to call people a color like that’s an insult.
I turn purple every time I read it.

I’d be very interested to know if the picture (above) is from today. If so – looks like Zyon is back.

  13. Aqualung Says:

Woodbrain – all you do is trolling Aqualung and then you talk about who is living in whose head? LOL. Clearly there’s plenty of space in yours.

  14. Fred McNeil Says:

Extra rest time may not be absolutely critical, but I can guarantee you that it certainly doesn’t exactly hurt either. I would say that beating two very good teams coming off 10 day rests is a very good portend. I am quite pleased to have an additional day to prepare for Detroit. Both Detroit and Atlanta looked almost unstoppable last night. I’ll take any edge I can get even if it’s only a figment of my imagination.

  15. Saskbucs Says:

Hopefully we get Evans and Zyon back this week. Would be a huge lift vs their banged up secondary.

Just like last year, we need the Bucs D to have a game up in Detroit, otherwise it could be a long day. Hutchinson is already counting sacks vs Charlie.

To be quickly followed by a short week.

  18. BucVoyager Says:

I’m looking forward to the by for rest and culling the playbook of some of the awful play calls. Grizz has done a great job but there are some plays that should never se the light of day again.

The guy claiming Mayfield wasn’t that good because Sean McVay let Mayfield “out of the building” is dumber than a box of rocks. McVay had Matthew Stafford for crying out loud! Mayfield knew he wasn’t going to start there. Geez.

And then to say, “Well, Carolina let him out of the building.” Yeah, Matt Rhule also chased away Sam Darnold, Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore. This clown is going to use Matt Rhule as some sort of savant???

  20. Waterboy Says:

That bye week rest seemed to work for Atlanta last night.

  21. Esteban85 Says:

    “The only advantage is rest.”
This I do not agree with, I think another advantage is how mentally tough your men are. That’s what’s so special about the past two weeks, against all odds and advantages our men went out there and out toughed the opponent. No matter the perceived adversity our team buckled the chin strap and refused to let anyone but them decide their fate.

Bucs get a bonus rest day and are off between February and July. Good gig if you can get it.

  24. Bill Johnson Says:

The Bucs are my team. To the Supper Bowl !!!

  25. Jerseybuc Says:

Even if they lose the Detroit game n that’s a big if they play them we’ll just thinking injuries might Catch up this week. Saints is gotta have game going into the bye 6-2 would be great!!! First half defense needs to tighten if you don’t think so your just glazing can’t wait till half to make adjustments going be a hole they can’t get out of eventually see the eagles game. Lions could do that the first half.
