You Like That?

December 13th, 2020

Shaq gets two.

You had the feeling too, fellow Bucs fans. Admit it.

In the fourth quarter you were expecting the Vikings to make a run. The Bucs offense hit a rut offensively and all of a sudden Kirk Cousins seemed to be leading a comeback.

We’ve seen it before. The awful Capitol Collapse, when Kirk Cousins engineered the greatest comeback in Redskins history and he bolted off the field at Fed Ex Field hollering to Redskins beat guys and girls in his squeaky voice, “You like that? You like that?!”

Well, the Bucs’ sack machine made sure that didn’t happen today.

Two guys the Bucs got for basically nothing the past couple of years, NFL sack king Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, started putting pressure on Cousins and he had no answer.

The Bucs had six sacks today led by Shaq’s two. JPP had a strip-sack that sealed the game. The Bucs even got a sack from retired NWA wrestler Pat O’Connor and got him out of the squared circle and he helped put Cousins in a sleeper hold.

The Bucs now have 40 sacks with three games to go — a far, far cry from the paltry 22 they had in 2017. The Bucs, who had 47 sacks last season, are on pace for 52.

“Pressure means more,” some will say. Nonsense, Joe says! And today was proof.

The legendary quote from Al Davis is as true today as it was first spoken in the 1960s.

“A quarterback must go down. And he must go down hard.”

Those are words Joe lives by.

Raise your hand if you feel more confident after this win than you did before the bye.

Yep as a Bucs fan of 41 years I had the “oh no” feeling.

But glad they sealed it and they cannot have a losing season.

The Bucs only having like 15 minutes time of possession made me want to slit my wrists, the Vikings 10 min drives every quarter was brutal – it was clear the the Bucs didn’t not want Thielen and Jefferson to torch them so they gave up the booty on underneath stuff all day, but ya know what? It worked. Getting the W is all that matters. I do think at some point tho you HAVE to just get off the field to give the offense more opportunities to get in to a rhythm. 8-5 looks nice though. On to ATL

Our defense need to be coached up. On the horse collar penalty on CDavis that lead to Cousin’s pass td, Anthony Nelson had an opportunity to bat the pass out of the air. He’s 6’7, com on man! The ball was within reaching range of being snatched outta the air. ANelson made no attempt to motion at the ball. Will Gholston has the height also but he too remains on his feet when passes are low flying at the line of scrimmage. I like DWhite but his pass coverage sucks. And, please get SMB outta there, he, as well as JDean when he return, are clueless. I’ll take Cockrell over both any day. I’ve said it before, keep feeding RoJo n before game’ s end, he’ll break the long one. Trust in the process. Our pass protection was awesome today. Thanks to the Vikings poor kicking game we pulled it out.

  10. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

It wasn’t pretty. The offense still needs to get far more consistent and both sides of the ball need to start the game better. And yes, I was getting a tight sphincter down the stretch!

  11. Craig Says:

The heat of the day really dragged the Vikings down. The defense didn’t start great, but as the day progressed and the Vikings neared heat stroke, they came through.

Good to see Shaq get a couple today. I thought he would have played the contain role for the whole game, but the Vikings shot themselves in the foot too many times and tried passing too much.

As the man said, Shaq is going to make a bunch of money next year, I hope it is here.

  12. Leighroy Says:

The point isn’t that pressures mean more, it’s that they’re also impactful plays. Sure everyone loves strip sacks more than plain sacks, and hits more than pressures. The Bucs D got all of the above tonight, it was a sight for sore eyes!

  13. JimbobBucsFan Says:

We sorely miss Vea! on defense. I would venture to say that his absence just might be the significant difference in our Super Bowl run results for this year.

    Go Bucs!

    @MikeJohnson

And again we find something to agree about.

    “visit my local..Gentlemens Club tonight.”

You go bro and get a “dance” for me.

I must admit, the best part of this victory was watching Kirk Cousin’s hissy fit on the sidelines late in the game. Great camera work!

I never felt the need to go to a strip club after a football victory, but after the LSU shoe debacle last night I wanted to guzzle a bottle of Jack Black to kill the pain.

shaq didn’t have stat sacks either…

both sacks came at important times in the ball game…
