Per NJ.com excerpts of the new Sports Illustrated feature on Darrelle Revis, there are clear errors and misconceptions about Revis’ Buccaneers career.
No need to dissect that, but one legitimately fresh nugget got Joe to sit up straight and put the cap on the vodka bottle.
It seems Revis’ rehabilitated leg was on his mind during Bucs games.
In Tampa he’d concealed the doubt that consumed him—the way his leg fatigued in the middle of games, the interceptions he missed when his foot speed failed him. He compares it to playing a whole year hampered by Kryptonite.
The “leg fatigued” part is new to Joe. It’s one thing to just being a step slow following a major injury, but it’s quite different to feeling wiped out and having the injury inevitably thrust into your mindset during a game.
Regardless, Greg Schiano and former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik knew what they were getting when it came to Revis’ health, and they were prepared for a long term investment. Revis, in fact, played excellent football for the Bucs, was a great mentor — and still is — for Johnthan Banks, and Revis showed last year that he is still a Hall of Famer at the top of his game.
Unfortunately, Lovie Smith and Jason Licht cut a 28-year-old Revis. They preferred to use his salary to pay Michael Johnson and Alterraun Verner.

Revis is an all-time great at his position, I think the bucs were not at a point in terms of where the franchise was/is to have the luxury to sign him. However it just adds to the decade long mistakes that have put the bucs at 2-14 and heading into 2015. Rockstar probably batted around 200 during his tenure and L & L are below that so the fans suffer

I don’t know how many times people need to hear that it takes 2 years to fully recover from an ACL tear before they believe it. Of course, we made the stupid decision as an organization to ignore that, and only worry about money. I’m still pissed we got rid of Revis to bring in Michael Johnson and Verner (Verner is ok, but he’s no Revis). I’m pretty sure that’s going to be in the top 3 for worst decisions by the organization (Schiano hire should be one, probably Raheem #2).
I also read that Revis had micro fracture surgery, which is much worse, and explains why even with his crazy rehab schedule, his knee still wasn’t right until midway through last season. Assuming the Bucs knew that, I probably would have kept him out the first 8 games or so. But there is no way we should have cut him, especially after giving up so much to get him. I don’t care if we were not a contender, you still don’t get rid of elite talent. I’m pretty sure the goal of building a winner is to accumulate talent, not get rid of it.

I read the same thing about the micro fracture surgery as well! Makes you wonder if there was full disclosure before the trade.
Also the players that replaced Revis was bad, But keeping Revis was not the right answer either. If you think that the starting safties had something to say about Lovie’s defense! It would have been a season long Lovie Roast by Revis!!! He would have trashed it up and down last year! He would have won the “greatest buc hater of joebucsfan comment section” hands down last year!!!!

Don’t really see how this is news. You could tell he wasn’t comfortable through a lot of the season. We knew he was rehabbing

Maybe, but I don’t think so. Revis was relatively silent playing for the idiot Schiano, so I’m pretty sure he’d be okay with Lovie, especially because Lovie isn’t a raging lunatic. I don’t recall Revis trashing any of his coaches at any level, do you?
What most people don’t know is that Lovie wants to plan man to man with his corners. That’s his preferred approach, but you have to have the horses to be able to do that, which he really didn’t last year. Banks was the lone bright spot as far as corners, but he doesn’t really have the speed to be a great man to man corner. It’s very similar to basketball – if you don’t have the talent man for man, you play a zone and try to scheme your way into stopping your opponent.

I thought I had “fatigued leg” once, but it turned out to just be the wife’s lingerie cutting off the circulation…..I really need to stop trying those things on.

Umm he had micro-fracture surgery as well. This procedure atrophies the Quad muscle. So “leg fatigue” is not surprising. Read what J. Clowney is doing to try and keep his Quad form shrinking. This is the Information Age.. All you have to do is read.

Lovie has shown if you don’t fit his system he will get rid of you (Revis, Barron) or he will keep you and make you less effective like he did with Lavonte.

16 million is simply too much for a cornerback even the best in the league. Paying that for one with a bum wheels is absurd.
I wouldn’t want us to pay 16 million for Revis, Sherman, or Patrick Peterson unless we had reached the Conference finals and believed a 16 million dollar CB would get us to the SB.
I never understood a 16 million dollar CB on anything less than an SB contender.

Revis was the Top rated CB in the League,the year he played here.
Our secondary was the worst. We signed him- secondary was much, much better.
We cut him- secondary sucks again.
He was one of the most Talented players to wear a Buc Jersey- ever.
He made the difference for New England. Bet they dont get anoher ring this year.
He is this generations Best CB. The Deon Sanders of this generation.
To let him leave, was the second stupidest move this team has ever made- after hiring Dom as GM!
